Why was Wurz excluded in the first race? From what I can see, Olle Arnesson is the one being forcefull in that situation. Am I missing something?

Martin Skancke had an awful temperament...you said something stupid to him, or piss him off...he punch your mouth right there...he did one on direct TV in Norway. And as He's a northerner,From Tana...its common to swear...its culture. Sitting on the roof doing donuts...

Before start of the season one year, Martin was waiting for a gearbox from Sachs in England. After many phone calls (and a lot of screaming and cursing, I expect) there was only a couple of weeks left until the first race. Then he went into the workshop and built the gearbox himself😅 Martin is a legend. The world's best winner and the world's worst loser👊

My father grew up with Martin. I remember visiting him at his home in the early 90's, he was turning new driveshafts out of Titanium at the time. I remember him having to save the shavings for recycling due to the high price of the material. He talked about having a pressure accumulator feeding oil to the turbo after the engine shut down, to prevent bearing damage... He also showed us the tour buss he had, a converted buss/coach, with a built in car-lift and workshop... I'd presume he was driving for Opel at the time. Beyond being MR Ralllycross, he is also a really good engineer, inventing/innovating, and working on 4x4 and drive-train stuff.. There are legendary stories about him driving the milk truck like an absolute loon in the area where he grew up. He comes across as a great guy, who tells it like it is. I also remember watching the little mermaid cartoon with his daughter at the time. Happy times.

Martin was a customer of me 10 years ago. The coolest dude ever come by our shop to get special parts for he's many projects, he was in all from motors to helicopters, robots and many cool stuff.

I have wanted a Metro ever since I saw them in an Ice race in Orkanger, Norway in the last part of the eighties :-)

Those S4’s are damn ugly cars but they can fairly hoof it.

When I were a lad, I had a VHS tape called "Car Wars 2" or something like that. I would watch it endlessly to the despair of my parents. Alamaki and Schanche were my two favourite drivers at the time because of the pure mayhem they would get up to on the track and I have remembered their names ever since. RIP Murray Walker, you legend.

40 years ago and they were taking off like nothing else! I used to go to Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard Netherlands, in August you had the European finals there in the late eighties/early nineties. Crazy fast and very diverse cars; Holdon Commodore V8, Porsche 930, Citroën Xantia, Audi Quattro, Rover Metro, Saab 900 and so on. All with 600+ horsepower, some even close to 900. The brute, mechanical force and the mind blowing noise are still a vivid memory today. I thank my dad for those great weekends and giving me the love for motorsport.

Off memory the 6R4 was a 3.0 v6 but not turbo, it was naturally aspirated. I suppose with RallyCross you can use what engine you like really.

Multi-talented Martin was fluent in many languages. He was fluent in Norwegian (obviously), English, Swedish & Finnish. At Buxtehude in Germany Arnesson & Schanche collided resulting in Schanche going off the circuit & then Schanche rejoined the circuit driving slowly & waited for Arnesson & then Schanche pushed Arnesson's car off the track!

The fact that Martin is that fast while driving on the rim is truly amazing, there was no one like him. Mr Rallycross is a well deserved title.

I don't know the others well, but John Welch & Martin Schanche are top guys, known them since I was a nipper, covered in mud & engine oil. John went on to race Martin's escort (I think?) before building his insane Astra which he is currently rebuilding!
