Matt's Concertina
United States
Приєднався 28 бер 2020
I'm a self-taught concertinist, playing since 1972. Since I rarely play in public and avoided performing, my friends in the concertina community encouraged me to start making an archive of my playing for future generations. I hope you enjoy the music! --- Matt
Nocturne #1 by Matt Heumann w/sheet music link

"The Coachman" -Matt Heumann

An bawdy old English folksong, also known as "The Coachman's Whip". This audio is from an old 2007 test recording and the wording varies from the musical score ("folk process").
English Folk Song "The Beggar" -Matt Heumann
Переглядів 13921 день тому
Cecil Sharp first published this folk song in 1916, calling it, and its earlier renditions from comic-dramas of the 1500s, the "First English Drinking Song of Any Merit". This is my arrangement for English Concertina. Some words may differ between the old audio and the printed arrangement.
Besser's Buttons Concertina Processional

Written for our concertina friend Jim Besser, Anglo concertina player extraordinaire, in the style of composer Kerry Mills who penned many fine Ragtime, Tin-Pan Alley, and novelty tunes. Jim is a huge fan of his music.
Matt Heumann & Frank Edgley: "Reunion Sets"
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Місяць тому
After almost 7 years apart (and a Pandemic), we reunited on January 3, 2025 in Windsor, Ontario for a day of good food, good music, & the best of friendship. It was like we were never apart! It also demonstrates that both Anglo & English concertinas are equally suitable/compatible for any traditional music, provided the musician understands the musical style. Thanks Frank! Matt

A little spooky piece I wrote in 1979, lots of possibilities for over the top improvisation & interpretation with the expressions.
Matt Heumann: The Australian "Mudgee Waltz"
Переглядів 4984 місяці тому
A sweet little Australian waltz collected in Mudgee, New South Wales and sent to me from my Australian friend & fellow concertina player Chris Rowe. This is my arrangement for English concertina: 1st on a 1921 Amboyna Edeophone, then a 1904 Edeophone baritone and finally on a 1951 Wheatstone Aeola
"The Black Harp" -Matt Heumann
Переглядів 1306 місяців тому
My dear friend Beverly Black has let me use her Celtic harp to compose tunes countless times (not surprisingly, I compose very different music on harp than on concertina). This tune is in appreciation of our shared love of Celtic music. Thank-you Beverly!

I composed these tunes to represent the "keening" or mournful cries of the seal "people" as they yearn for return to the ocean.

Matt Heumann plays Irish Jig: "PJ Cullen"
That is a gorgeous concertina, and some remarkable playing
cute song. I wonder if I could handle the ten miles! ;-)
Thank-you all for the amazing response to our little get-together, we are very humbled by the large number of views. Frank's "Edgley New Model" has the sweetest tone I've ever heard and his playing is still inspiring. A special thanks to PJ & Chris @ Concertinashop.com.au for selling me the enormous & mellow 1904 Lachenal Edeophone Baritone that I played in the video. The smaller Amboyna Edeophone I also played is from the estate of the late great duet concertina player, David Cornell, who we all miss.
Lovely stuff. Thanks. Lovely friendship. Lovely and lively tunes. What a nice way to brighten the start of the day here in UK.
Lovely stuff. Thanks. Lovely friendship. Lovely and lively tunes. What a nice way to brighten the start of my day.
Really excellent!! It's people like you who keep the music and tradition alive for future generations to love and play!!! WELL DONE & THANK YOU!!
Magic. Thank you both.
I added it to my Facebook page and received two "Likes; one from a former co-resident of the farm and the other from Charlie Wilkie.
Al, I'm very glad you and I met all those years ago and still play together, and especially for providing the "Farm Weekend" event that got Frank & me playing music together. ---Matt. Now, let's get together and make a video too!
Absolutely beautiful. Well done Pj the concertina shop Australia
We had a good time playing together. Matt was playing a recently acquired antique Lachenal concertina, and I played one of my "Edgley New Model" concertinas.
Beautiful music and what a great friendship you have! ❤
The world needs more of this...
Beautiful! Both the music and the friendship!
Love the sound. Hope you & Mary had a lovely Christmas.
HAUNTING😅
Nicely Haughting
Beautiful
Though one can never be too sure what name he’s going by from day to day, his last name is “Wilkie”.
Wonderful. Thanks!
Great tune Matt.. Great Sound
Thank-you for the kind words!
bonechilling how this popped up in my feed but i like it :)
Very nice! I especially like how you could switch instruments so flawlessly.😊
Its one of those tunes that just seems to play itself regardless of the instrument!🪗
Hey I purchased from Barleycorn just a couple months back, great jig!
Good to hear!
Excellent Tune !
Great tune, Matt!!
Just casually dropping the best concertina cover of this on UA-cam 😎 wonderful
Wow, thank you!
Another nice one Matt..
Glad you enjoyed it
you can make a pneumatic engine out of that.
Well done sir.
interesting for the instrument to have a hendecagonal shape. that's really unusual.
All lachenal Edeophones were 12-sided and considered top of the line profession instruments of their day.
Beautiful! Keep it up.
Thank you! Will do!
Very nice. I'm in the process of refurbishing the same model that has raised ebony ends. I believe it to date from 1918 as it was sold in 1919 by the JJ Vickers Co. London. They penciled the buyers name and date of sale inside. I'm in n. California. Cheers!
Great tune beautifully played
Such a warm rounded sound. I always point out the proof to people saying old tuning was the much lower 432hz. These reeded instruments are a permanent record of the facts.
That brightened up my arrgfternoon.. Great!
That’s a lovely little concertina Matt.. and you play it beautifully.
Thanks, yep its a darn near perfect instrument from a departed friend and legendary Duet concertina player, David Cornell
Ooooo arrrgg! : ))
beautifully played.
Many thanks!
Lovely song!
Many Thanks!
real nice
As a fellow fan of Utah Phillips, I appreciate your compliment! (met him back in the 70s when I was working at the ARK Coffee House and he was performing). ---Matt
@mattsconcertina2131 That's awesome, he was a good one!
Good morning, Matt. I have aways enjoyed your play ing and singing and again ;this morning. Joanne
Nice sound. What is the concertina please?
1921 Lachenal 48-button treble Edeophone in Amboyna wood.
Well played on a great instrument!
Matt - beautiful.
Matt, these are lovely!! I love the triplets and accedentals....to keep things flowing.... (PS thanks for sharing the notations!)
Thank-you and you are welcome for the notation!
