I am a person with low vision, and I wanted to share some thoughts about the mental barriers you rightly mentioned. Often, families are not aware of what to do after receiving a diagnosis from hospitals. In my case, a doctor told us that my condition was not curable, so we stopped seeking further medical opinions. I believe that with proper awareness, people can continue to seek help, especially in rural areas where people may not know about available solutions or experts who can guide them. Education is key to overcoming these barriers. If organizations like Enable India had a presence in major locations across the country, they could consult with families on the best ways to proceed. My parents were not aware of Enable India; it was me who discovered it. This lack of education and awareness needs to change so that families can reach out to the right people and get the guidance they need.
