Thoughts, tips, tricks for various games. Mostly on PC these days, but am also up for talks on classics!
Sink the Bismarck! Adventures on the High Seas: Episode 109
Time for a more modern light cruiser hull, so let us build the Luebeck class! These are a step forward in CL tech, as all the previous ones have had that WWI look. We are down-gunning them to 150mm primary weapons, but 8 barrels means more volume of fire. Besides, now we have access to incendiary shells, so if nothing else they can just burn down larger vessels. Also on the itinerary is constructing a new fleet destroyer in the V-1600 class, and these take advantage of new twin turret tech for small ships. -- Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

Our first look at RDF technology in one of our refit Thuringias. Not much of a challenge, ship-wise, but we also get a sneak peek at how the MkV guns should perform. The MG42 also sees some action against a battleship with 12.5-inch main guns... how will she fare? Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

Today we build... the Woerth class battleships. Slightly less tonnage, back to 15-inch guns, but ultimately a little less costly and faster on the build. We still do not have the tech level to build the Scharnhorst, which is the next in line historically, but we get to play around with some more of the interwar technology. The Thuringia class heavy cruisers get an upgrade, jumping from MkIII to MkV main guns, among other things. We are seeing the Turbo-Electric drive engine cutting costs in our fleets in a big way. Selling off old ships in earnest can be a lengthy endeavor, but it is more profitable than simply scrapping the ships. If you have allies, take advantage! Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

Today we jump right into a fight between one of our battlecruiser detachments and a rather sizeable Italian fleet with 2 battleships. Will the Hessen prove its mettle, or will she take a visit to Davey Jones? And for those of a more aesthetic mind, we have a beautiful battle at sunset... Red sky at night, sailor's delight! Make that 2 sunset battles, one sees the MG42v2 in action! Watch live at...

Triple turrets, and MkIII 8-inch guns means it is time to finally give an update to our fleet cruisers, the Roons! Sadly, it will take 6 months to do each ship, but... it should be well worth it. Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

The Nassaus have their last show? For a ship that has been with our fleet for the better part of 20 years, they still get it done! It is becoming necessary to clear out old ships, as well. Our roster is choked with old or obsolete vessels. Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

The Scattergun may be a design that has outlived its purpose, or its useful life. Though, there is something to be said about mortaring ships at 5km... that plunging fire really demolishes smaller vessels. Perhaps something to support the convoys in high-traffic areas? Clearing out the Danish Fleet, so we get a really good look at how the Hessen Battlecruisers perform. The crashing boom of those 14-inch guns makes quick work of their aged fleet... do the minor nations never sell or scrap any ships they buy? Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

The MG42 finds a fleet that really tests the ship as a whole: protection, weapon effectiveness, ammunition, survivability... She comes out on top, but only just! The Italians have a mean new dreadnought, armed with 16 10-inch guns that really put a hurtin on our ship. Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

Projects for this episode include building, and actually giving a name to, the project L20e alpha class of battleships that were supposed to replace the Bayern class. These monsters were over 48,000 tons and would have mounted 16.5-inch main battery, had the Germans managed to survive the war. We will affectionately call them Loethringen. Also, as we now have MkII guns in the 15-inch flavor, th...

The Bayerns have a show against a numerically superior foe. I love the sound of those 15-inch guns... BOOM! Nice and throaty, like a big-block V8. The triple-barreled main guns on the MG42s are also a resounding success! Too bad we could not upgrade to the MkIV guns. And we begin taking territory from Denmark. Preparing to eliminate the Italian allies, we position ourselves to take Denmark out of the picture, and is our work cut out for us here! Both Hessen and Thueringen class ships make their debut in action against the Danish fleet. Am I tempting fate, having the Graf Spee operate around the South American coast? Hey, when will we be able to capture those ships that surrender? Could be an incentiv...

The Nassau class is still putting in some work! Then Scattergun II flexes its muscles on a much larger fleet. I'm still undecided, but those plunging-fire shells (a lot like a mortar) seem to wreck havoc on smaller vessels. Does not do the job as quick as the smaller gunned MG42, though. Speaking of the MG42... she has a fight right after. Watch live at www.twitch.tv/wulf190d

Britain unexpectedly drops out of the war, and is summarily replaced by Italy. Well, these should have some more entertaining battles as the Italians had been sending a good bit of tonnage to sip territory away from the Americans. This might also complicate things elsewhere because of the reach of Italy. BC Graf Spee makes a good show of herself off the South American Coast... oh the irony! Wat...

I love the sound effects. I wish those and the realistic (or at last more so) ballistics and accuracy could be transferred to World of Warships.
I get that! World of Warships is good for what it is, and I do like to go back to Wargaming every now and again (still my heart is in tanks, with those guys). Be aware, though, that much of the accuracy is in your crew level. Get those trained and keep 'em trained!
I think Australia signed with Britain as an ally send the Papua new guinea fleet to get them lol
Sometimes this is quite the feat, as the minor allies can change very quickly. It seems, though, that if I have fleets nearby then they will trigger events to initiate a conquest. But I do appreciate the heads up from all of you, because I played this so long it hasn't become second-nature as of yet!
Spain has Brazil, Persia (?) And Australia (?) As targets lol
I think Persia is with Italy, Australia with Great Britain.
I think Span has minor nation friends you can conquer
I need to keep reminding myself of this fact, because it is new and I keep forgetting.
noooo, not the end of the historical ww1 builds just as i discoverd your vids
Haha, I might give a shot to the blueprint builds that would have been built.
Humans
Yes. We do silly things, don't we?
i love the semi-historic bb design's
Thanks! I enjoy trying to make them. Could be better if I did a series or something on the actual historical builds.
i tend to do my best to make the historical designs especialy in the ww1 era, i hope they add more german ww1 dreadnaught hulls and the sms derfflinger hull as its my favourite ship
That would be a battlecruiser, correct?
yea, and it looks very modern for its time
She certainly had lovely lines for her time.
Wulf if your playing on the latest version you can invade minor nations allied to enemies. For example you are at war with us look and see who his minor nation allies are
Indeed! It is a nice new feature that gives one more opportunities during war time. At this time, since I'm at war with the US, I haven't pushed across the Atlantic much because I am still a little concerned about supply lines (recent updates have made prolonged wars a greater strain on ground forces, which can cause problems for some of the nations).
This reminds me way, way back in the 80s there was a microsoft computer game for the commadore where you could play as the Bismark as a campaign.
Really? Some of the early games I remember were Carrier Strike and The Grandest Fleet... I miss the good old days of SSI haha.
I always love the close range or semi-close range brawling. I love having a single or two BBs take on a huge fleet. The late game (40s,50s,etc) get kind of boring since all the shots end up flying way across and torpedo are absolutely spammed and have a quite a range.
Yeah, one of the reasons I really enjoy the early start of the campaign. It is much more... up close and personal. The early-era dreadnoughts can be fun too, as they often can turn into a slug fest. It's probably part of why I enjoy a good destroyer build, because I do get a kick out of playing them aggressively to drop a mass of torps at close range!
Nice vid mate 👍
You have my gratitude!
But very cool video
Many thanks!
Why you didn't activate the musics they are cool
The music is deactivated to avoid those pesky copyright conflicts. I know, I enjoy the music too!
@Wulf190d Normaly there is no problem with the mysic don't worry
Support ya man XD sadly my back has been hurting for awhile 😢
Thanks for the support, but sadly it sounds like your back needs it more? Take care of it, buddy!
I'll check back in when I need an asmr fix what with the grunting and slurping. Sounds like my old dog having his breakfast.
My bad... But in reviewing the video I can't seem to find this "grunting and slurping" that is such a turn off for ya. Could you maybe be more specific about a time, instead of insinuating that it is all over my video? Cool, bro, and thanks!
Hey man XD I'm currently abit in a mixed emotions about my ship ps11
How's that?
suport ya man
I thankee kindly, sir!
Are the devs still working on this? Last I heard they just said it was complete and launched it.
To what, particularly, were you referring? One thing I really like about this game, and this studio, is that they are constantly working on and improving the games. Sometimes the updates force you to restart your campaigns, but the newest one is supposed to be compatible with older saves. We'll see on that...
@@Wulf190d when it came out of EA there were a lot of promised features missing pertaining to the campaign and ship design and it was extremely buggy. They then immediately moved onto to their next EA project, which is kinda their MO. They did the same thing with This Land is My Land.
This Land is My Land, I think, was another title I am interested in. So, wait... this was an EA project? Fools, if they give it up.
@@Wulf190d sorry, I meant EA as in ‘Early Access’. This Land seems pretty unfinished to me, I got bored of it quick. If you do get it, either get it on sale or from a key reseller.
I get it. I've had since EA as well, and yes it was very buggy then. Has come a long way, but it's the same issue in most every game I have played: the AI is never very clever, they only seem to get massive economic boosts (though in this it seems even less). That being said, however, the most recent patches seem to have improved the AI shipbuilding ability, instead of Battleships with .5" of armor, I'm seeing ships much better balanced and dangerous.
I never will get how a compartment can be both totally flooded and on fire in this game but it is what it is lol! Nice job with the DDs Vs. BB!
The mechanics certainly aren't perfect. I mean, detonation of the magazine doesn't break the ship in two, or even totally destroy the part of the ship in which it is located (at least not visually). Thanks for the kudos, I find destroyers to be particularly painful early on if used properly, but keep the range up on those fast torps, otherwise they get picked apart!
@@Wulf190d For me its '20's era CLs, painfully slow and hard to balance out weight. UAD is a mess, Ive been playing since before it released on steam and its always had some glaring issues, But it can be fun if you know what to expect. One point it was meta to just ignore DDs all together as the torps wouldnt ever fire (the launchers were fubared, but DDS need them so just not bother with the DDs lol) Anyway, i subbed to your channel, hopefully UAD gets better haha!
Well, they are constantly improving it. Now, torps work flawlessly... with the exception of early-era torps having a higher percentage of duds, something like 20-25% (but, early torpedoes weren't exactly 100% anyway haha). CLs are pretty easy to balance, though they might be harder on other nations? The ships I find particularly difficult for balancing are the CAs in the early era.
fyi to invade gibraltar i think you have to be inside the mediterranean. even though the invasion circle spreads out into the atlantic. and enemies can't drive through the strait, so they wont run into the mines. also why i let the british keep singapore. i just took the island next to it, that i can mine. so their ships get to take the shortcut, but they have to run through my minefield
True, you have to be in the Mediterranean to start the invasion, however I have seen that if you can get your ships close enough to the point from the Atlantic side then they will support. Interesting thought on Singapore, as, yes, this would force them to pass through your minefield. All in all, I like taking the choke points, if at all possible. Another good location in this regard is Panama, because once the canal is finished it gives you a great passage from the Caribbean to the Pacific, while forcing enemy fleets to take the long way.
The pure panic lol
Unloaded the Makarov, and we both still walked smh
John H. Morgan-the great raider-was from Kentucky. Other Kentucky cavalry officers included George Cosby, Basil W. Duke, Charles W. Field and William Hawes.
What’s your opinion on having brigade commanders from the same state as the men they command? I know it’s not possible to do so at the divisional level or corps level but it should be doable at the brigade level in many cases. It was the preferred option historically. I do concur with you on reserving western units-and perhaps western officers-for the western armies where possible.
Personally I like the idea of doing this, it seems more historically accurate and I understand the mentality of having commanders from one's home state. Sort of up there with the idea of having a president born of one's country.
I keep my Torp tech ahead of everyone else. It is a great tool in fighting at sea. If nothing else it can make the other ships move and dodge screwing up their ability to shoot back.
I mean, early game you can't go wrong with high-level torp tech. And yeah, if nothing else you break up formations which allows you to better isolate and eliminate the stragglers!
@Wulf190d I like watching the volley of Torpedoes inching their way into the formation it is a dammed beautiful thing.
Just a tip, I enjoy the video however the breathing into the mic makes this almost unwatchable.
Ahh, thanks! I was wondering if it was too close. Will rectify this in the next set of videos (I did record a set during a stint, so apparently this will be an issue in a couple more videos).
Enjoying another brand new perspective on playing the campaign. Too many people are accepting what is now common wisdom on opening army and economic moves.
I agree. It's important to have different perspectives out there... in more ways than one!
New to channel. Love Grand Tactician. Planning to watch the entire season.
Much obliged to you! My test run campaign just ended before the turn of '62, but I'll be including more insights as the season progresses! If you have any of your own, please feel free to share 'em!
P R O M O S M 😘
Another quite effective strategy is to use your skirmishers to flank around (with some melee escort) and hit the big blob of units from behind while they're committed to fighting your main line. Some of them might turn around, this doesn't happen often though because of the marvelous AI, and that's why you bring melee to protect them just in case. As Romans you can even have them use their pilum as well to throw into their backs. The skirmishers won't do very well unless you get them set up to throw from the sides. But generally they don't perform that well if they have to throw over friendly units on a flat surface, so having them flank around is going to get them some nice kills.
An effective strategy, one which I did not employ here haha
😂🔥
🔥☕🪖💣⚔️🧨♟️🧶 damage control!!
Lol can you add the Space Force?
Not sure that the tech level reaches that far haha
🔥
It's rather boring, though... This is just the calm before the storm!

Thanks!
We gotta make an all out stand 🎶
Would it be better to record the whole fight, though?
Mmmm yes! Maybe one largue vídeo with the whole thing and cut that same one into sections
Boss it out bro!!!
Haha, thanks buddy!
Nice Bro!
Thanks 🔥
