You're definitely a rookie owning that amalgamation of all the cheapest and dodgiest Chinese parts thrown together ever! Its ok !! I can say it cause back in my beginning days I bought the same junk! I literally had to chase after it with a toolbox for 4 years!😂

Are there any magnetic stirrers that can handle fairly viscous solutions ? A couple of the reactions I do often get really thick and my stirrer won't do it.
Maybe a stronger motor?🤷♂️
I'm thinking of d.i.ying mine. A heating element...and a rotating element.
It would depend on the solution. What is the solution exactly? And do you know the RPM of the stirrer you tried and it didn't work?

@@eklabsupply847 Its a nitration solution, I just have one of those SH-2 hotplate - mag stirrers off of amazon. Its my first one so I don't have anything else to compare it to, with thinner liquids it does fine and spins really fast, it just doesn't seem to have the torque for viscous solutions. I might upgrade unless they are all pretty much similar.

Is that just DH20? Ive heard some complaints about this device, however, I have found it to be an excellent and reliable tool in the lab. Glad I went ahead and acquired it when I did. Yes it has its nuances and there are far superior hot plates/stirrers, but those are 3 or 4 times the cost... For the price this is hard to beat. IMO, using some common sense and realizing it's limitations would resolve a lot of the complaints I've heard. For example, not trying to stir a 5000ml flask at 1500rpm with a molases in January consistency solution :-) haha.
