I have a 79 with master volume. I love to play a fully hollow through it, with a little creative de-tuning and some feedback you can make the trem sound like a helicopter or a Harley or an alien invasion! If you pull the correct two power tubes it runs @ 50w like a bandmaster (for the ears)
Also makes a nice vocal pa for small venues. I also blow blues harmonica through mine via a Vox Flat 4 tube pedal ~ surprisingly close to my vox Night Train setup.
I’m an amp repair man and I made this video to demonstrate that the amp is working. I’m playing a fender Strat directly into the amp, no effects at all. Maybe you hear the 4ths with the distortion. In my opinion this is not a great sounding amp. I don’t understand why it’s getting all the views it has gotten, considering some of the other great amps that I demo on my UA-cam channel. Thanks for listening!
@@pontiacpetehi! Thanks for your video. Which amp would you recommend to a Stratocaster? I love the Steve Ray sound. Any good amp under 500 dollars? Thanks for you reply!
I agree that your twin is really loud, they all are. Great amps! The 135 does, however have a very large power transformer and the high voltage on them is closer to or above 500vdc, and it’s a good idea to use 5881s and not modern production 6L6s. They can’t handle it. The old US made 6L6s can but they are pricey. Your 74 twin makes about 460vdc. The 135 has a bit more clean head room and would most likely have more output power. Also, it is called ultra linear because of the output transformer. These output transformers have extra windings to provide the screen voltage to the power tubes. Lots of times you see this in Hifi output transformers. Giving it a cleaner sound. Anyway your amp is still freaking loud when working properly, putting out 90 or more watts rms. Who really needs more than that. Thanks for looking,!!
That sounds incredible, what a Tone 👌 I'm hopefully about to become the owner of a Monarch soon but there are no Benson cabs available here in Australia or anywhere for that matter. Can I ask what cab you used here?
I don’t remember which cab I was plugged into. It was either the 4 ohm cab with a black widow 15” or the 8 ohm cab with two 12” speakers, unknown brand, that have since blown.
thank you for this, I have been wondering if my spring reverb has an issue or if it supposed to sound that fluttery. This showed me how good that verb can be. I'll have to take a look when I spray the pots.
@@pontiacpete no I haven't opened it up yet but the reverb does work. The wash is long like the one in this video, mine is really short and sounds like the spring bouncing. If that makes sense lol
Standby is most important for turn on, it allows the heaters to heat the tube before the high voltage hits the plates. Turning the amp off, doesn’t matter how you do it.
I'm watching trying to compare the sound of the real deal with my tiny One Control 360 Blue.It does give a decent replication of the tone despite not having the monster cabinet. It d definitely saves ones back from aching 😅
Fantastic sound quality!!! I have the vintage Roland Cube 100. I swear, you can blow up my whole livingroom with one cube🔉🔊🔊🔊🔊🔥. Its a keeper for the rest of my life!
I had the little brother,Bandit 112 with a Scorpion in it.. needed up running two of them ,preamped one into the other,, by far my favorite combo,, and by far Peavey s are my favorite amps!
I had one. Hard to overdrive. I had the twin 15" JBL cabinet. I used a simple LPB1 power booster and it got me well on my way to a heckuva' case of tinitus. :-) Nobody wore earplugs back then.
Great mixer for any show.if not loud enough your band is too loud !!!!

Nice picking Pete!!

Wow. That sounds beautiful!
Great playing and amp
I have one just like it!
This one is actually mine and I adore it to this day. Perfect amp for a home/studio scenario

wow super sounds
WTF
Love to talk to an ex Peavey designer about what they were going to g for in the gain circuits.
You are using an octaver pedal maybe more than that. … that sucks and confuse the sound

I think my seventy four silver face is just as loud. 135 watt might be fake news.

For those thinkn of buying this amp- this is a terrible demo of what this amp sounds like. It's actually a GREAT amp.

One of the best small amps Jim Marshall made.

I don’t think I ever was able to get the complete schematic. Since the power amp section is solid state I would guess 4 ohms
@@pontiacpete thanks for the info
Hey you guys still playing
No we lost the drummer last fall
Where did you find the fender badge
This cabinet is from a fender DSP princeton. I just built the tube circuit
Normally you turn off the standby, wait a bit and then turn off the power switch. Or am I doing it wrong since 1979?
