I never worked at Bentley Pit, Although I Did Work at Thurcroft Collery.
My dad worked there in the 80s 90s. Pete Roberts of anybody here knew him lol.he always said theres stories from there he loves to tell and some he never wants to re live. God bless our miners xxxx
DID MY UNDERGROUND TRAINING AT BENTLEY ,WHAT A EYE OPENER ,THEY TOOK ME INTO A WORKING HEADING WITH DOSCO ROAD HEADER CHURNING AWAY ,FRIGHTENED THE LIFE OUT OF ME BUT WENT ON TO WORK IN THE HEADINGS DRIVING A DOSCO ROAD HEADER ,GOOD TIMES .
Thanks for posting i worked here while i was going through my electrical apprenticeship in 77 God this brings back so many memories.
You want to watch that doesn't set on fire Bush lol
Worked for Thyssens at Bentley, remember it very well. When were waiting to ride the shaft at shift end we had to queue behind the BC men so they were out first and showered first so when they were showered they left the showers on and run all the hot water off so the contractors had to wash in cold water and that was in the wintertime. Yes I remember Bentley.
George, Thyssens was well known for employing ex NCB scabs, and you know that was the reason for running the hot water off.
I play highschool simulator I'm questioning wat you want me to do in it
wheres the underground bit ??
richard wardle you can't film underground
@@326DONCASTER since when ? There are many films of men working underground , but of course there maybe gas risks , explosion risks, that would prevent filming .
My dad worked there on the pit top, smashing lumps of coal with a hammer for 6 years God bless him
I WORKED THERE FOR 16 years until it seized production in Dec 93. My father was there for 42 years... my uncle before and after WW 2 and my grandfather was there at the time of the disaster in 1931. Brings back loads of good memories though. M.Booth.
haha
Incredible.
Interesting video. It must have been taken soon after closure. I had a day trip down Bentley when I was a mining engineer trainee. I rose to Undermanager then left the industry in 1972. I worked in construction after that, 27 years in Hong Kong building the underground railway there.
it would be nice to see your footage.
ONCE AGAIN SORRY.I SPOTTED THE GARAGE THAT HOUSED ONE OF THE LOCOS WHICH WAS THE HYDRAULIC ONE AT 7.11 AND AT 8.38.
SORRY I LOOKED AT YOUR VID AGAIN AND INDEED AT 2.36 DID SPOT THE DIESEL GARAGE AND THE GARAGE THAT ONE OF THE LOCOS WERE HOUSED IN.THANKS.
my dad spent the majority of his working life there.
My grandad Bill or William O'connor use to work here untill that witch shut all the pits, he was the guy who brought all the men up from the pit
Jamie is that you haha?
That witch shut less pits than labour.
Hi thank you for putting this video on, My grandad was the under manager of bentley then moved onto be the manager of armthorpe, He was at bentley during the 50's/60's, then armthorpe 70's onwards. its rekindled some very fond memories for him, and I thank you for taking the time to put this video on, its put a smile on an old man as he's 86 now
Wont be long till the old witch croaks her last !! Then party time!!
did my some of my training at bentley colliery, and armthorpe ,then worked at hatfield colliery for 11 years ,and consider it a great part of my life, great men to work with ,i miss it ,live in australia now but i still look back with fond memories sorry its gone i would have stayed till i retired if it wasnt for thatcher
my dad worked at bentley i remember the days waiting for him to finish work i even went to the infermary to have a cut butterfly stiched up
did my deputies practical at bentley..............good pit, making good money earning blokes a good wage....pity it was another victim of thatchers politics of hate!!
Thatchers policy of hate shut less pits than labour.
@Oi! MD I agree with you, but the NUM not having a national ballet, which would have allowed them to call a national strike, instead of a area by area strike, didn't help the situation.
No it's long since demolished it's a nice landscaped country park
im a keen urbex and caver and am very interested in mining history. do you know if theres anything left of ant of these collieries? would love to take some pictures. also cant seem to get any sound on this vid?
long gone now all that remains is the landscaped spoil heaps
Work at Bentley for 10yrs, brings it all back. Thanks :-)
