A community company I performed at, had a similar set up for a production of 12 Angry Men in 2018. The rain only fell onto the windows of the jury room, and into a trough behind the set, then out a side door to a collection tank. The audience were amazed.
Finding this years later, but very curious how you kept the actor's mic dry. Did you run a water-resistant lav at his hairline? Leverage a hanging mic or boundary, or perhaps a hidden shotgun? Sound quality is fantastic, so I'm very curious. Am I viewing it that the rainfall was only in a narrow line downstage, so when he goes back to the light post he's no longer getting wet? Absolutely love this effect and the technical background, would love to learn more. Thanks!
We used a special Countryman mic that was waterproof.

this is really awesome! But I have a question, how were you about to have the girls play the parts of the guys? I always thought that wasn't allowed?
We embrace our students and artists to play a variety of roles regardless of race or gender. In our profession, there is no reason for a female to not be allowed to play a male role and we should never discriminate based on race or gender. Shows are casted based on the director's vision and the company available to tell the best story possible. Some directors want to stick to a traditional way of casting their shows where all characters are accurately portrayed based on each character's race and gender. But, if all artists were to strictly adhere to that mindset Hamilton the Musical would have an all white cast and the all female cast production of Taming of the Shrew would not be taking place in NYC this summer. Some of the most brilliant pieces of theatre are those that think outside the box. Thank you so much for your positive comments and continue to support the arts! :-)
