Swag stuff doesn’t work for people with high speeds and on heavy oil patterns TBH. Their stuff is good but really smooth and can’t do anything when on tough patterns.
@@JustinMorgan-b7p Tell that to the young two hander I've got out here at my youth league. The kid throws it very hard, over 20 mph at release and these new balls are money for him. Any ball can be overpowered, especially if you don't have the proper layout or ball surface for the type of bowler you are. That and these are not even close to what swag had previously. The coverstock changes that have been made to the equipment have made a big difference.
@ gotta see it to believe it. Post a video on your account then I will believe it buddy 😂😉
Move it up to 4,000 and its on until it lane shines
@@darrinwatts9979 I actually used mine in league this past week. I was forced deep but this thing just wouldn't stop and was obliterating racks. Ended up shooting 270 with it.
Glad the layout worked out so well!
They all worked great!
nice ball review
@@BowlingwithDiallo thank you.
my review was with the polish on as well. i took it off for league and i like it better with a little surface.
Personally, I am still un-decided on that part. After throwing the Fusion and seeing what it can do, I may just leave the unreal polished to avoid overlap with the fusion.
nice video!
I appreciate it! Thank you for watching!
Was excited to see you throw THE JUDGE once I heard about it. Such a sweet name for a bowling ball. If I hadn’t just purchased the ion max, I’d definitely be buying this one. I’d like to pull up to league night and bring this one out for game one.
It’s a great ball. I hope you enjoy the Ion Max! You should definitely look into the judge at some point. It will dominate oily conditions!
Great job bro
Thank you!
My venom shock sounds like that
It's an excellent sound! This indicates that the coverstock really has some good grip to it.
Just curious, for his finger grip, is he only using the tip? or more of a conventional grip set up?
@@donsterlai from everything I've seen he appears to use a classic first knuckle fingertip grip.
Gotta turn that master volume up, my man.
@@bch9124 this original short was recorded without a good wireless mic. Fortunately, I have a much better one now.
As a new older guy learning 2-handed, this was gold. It's weird after all the videos I search for, I didn't see the timing either never mentioned or a priority. I even had a virtual lesson from a known coach who definitely made the point on timing, but didn't say exactly how to fix. This tells me exactly how my timing of feet and push away should be. Thank you!
@@navystan your welcome! I'm glad you found the channel. Welcome!
I wanna see you throwing that “JUDGE”. That ball looks sweet, and judge is an AWESOME name.
@@kaminskitj I'll have reviews coming as soon as my shipment arrives. Hopefully by the end of the week.
I've seen a few videos in which people talk about lane play and the focus is usually on what type of ball (solid vs pearl vs urethane, symmetrical vs asymmetrical) to use, depending on the lane condition. You've gone a step beyond that to help me understand why. I started bowling about 10 months ago when I had my first ball drilled one-handed (a Raw Hammer hybrid - high RG, low diff). Now that I practise with it two-handed (with a 3D-printed plug in the switch grip sleeve), it seems to work well on house shots (not freshly oiled). Now, I understand why. Thanks for going into the details of what to look for in terms of RG and diff when choosing a ball for specific lane conditions.
Glad to help you understand why certain balls work better on different lane conditions! Welcome to the channel!
Oh wow! This is so clear! I know what I need to do now. Since starting to pratise bowling two-handed (two weeks ago), I've been pushing the ball away during my second step (in a 4-step approach) and I usually feel like I'm rushing the swing. Now I know why. The ball is arriving late. I need to practise pushing the ball out at the end of my first step (of 4 steps), or perhaps try 5 steps and do what you're doing. Thank you so much!
You are welcome! Thank you for the comments and welcome to the channel!
This series of videos is exactly what I need now. Just subscribed. Thanks for sharing these videos.

@@BigSkyBowler I'm glad I found it too. BTW, I found you on Instagram and have followed you there too. You may want to update the link in your UA-cam profile.
Thanks for this video and the series on Keys to the two-handed game. I've recently switched to two-handed bowling (practising the last two weeks) after bowling one-handed since end March last year. I've been placing my middle finger of my left hand between the fingers of my right hand. I had no idea that changing the finger would change the axis rotation. Thanks! I have to try switching around the next time I practise.
I'm glad you found the series helpful! You are very welcome.
Can you also adjust your axis tilt? Or does the tilt stay the same?
@@matthewputtroff9551 you can, but it's much harder to adjust without your thumb in the ball. When you change your rotation, your tilt usually changes a few degrees.
Learned a lot from this video. Please discuss some of the nuances of the release. Great job bro

That would be great. You have a gift of explaining so that everyone is able to understand. Respect.
Thanks for explaining support hand location. Was a one hand/no thumb bowler but switching to 2 handed as my wrist and shoulder started getting sore after a few games. Love the power in 2 handed but wasn’t sure about where to place support hand. This video explained it and is highly suggested!
I'm glad this video helped you! Hope you can find some relief in two-handed bowling!
Are there any two handers that use their thumb? I am a thumb two hander and I'd love some better tips for my technique
There are a few I believe. On the pro level, the last one I can remember is Anthony Russo. I think that he may have switched to thumb less. Using your thumb as a two hander actually takes away quite a few benefits from the two handed game.
Your action is similar to Chris Via’s. Best wishes.
Thank you
Keys.. be a wuss
Thank you this is awesome
Everything you have said is totally true -EXCEPT additional two hand turn must also be added at the ball release to further increase revolutions and therefore skid. 🧑🏽🎓
@@SuperSdbaby not turn. Turning the ball with your wrist has absolutely nothing to do with Rev rate. It allows a player to induce more axis rotation or less depending on the wrist position. Being under the ball and opening the wrist quickly is what generates Rev rate.
Honestly...your the best teacher of the two handed game on UA-cam.
@@flaviuspestano6259 thank you! I appreciate that!
So you rotate the ball left if you two handed?
@@Pool4Today I rotate the ball left because I'm right handed.
@ well I’m left handed so what do I do
@@Pool4Today as a left hander, your rotation would go to the right. You can perform these same steps with your left hand, just in the opposite direction.
@ thanks I’ll try it on my bowling practice today
This look like a great home practice for me but I note that it promotes a non-ball-side follow through that I really dont have. My left arm tends to cut away from the ball more like Kyle rather than rising high away. I'll try it as my coach would prefer me to have that higher follow through.
@@rleriche5044 great tool for at home. Especially if you have a mirror!
Is there a way to do this without the hop/stutter step? I'm a fatty and i don't need to be jumping around if I don't have to.
@@EviLNox8 there is but you have to develop very quick feet without the stutter step or skip step. This can sometimes be very difficult to do.
This may help some stay up the back longer. Depends on your “swing” mainly. If you are using more of a natural swing that doesn’t use a lot of upper-body strength, you can achieve almost any hand position you want as a two-hander. Start slower, find your timing as you change tempos. Easier said than done of course, but that’s a great start to being able to change your hand (cupped, un-cupped, the position relative to a hand on a clock, etc.) Yes, believe it or not, you can change your rev rate as a two-hander as well.
What can I do to increase axis tilt? My axis tilt is negative.
@@BUSTANUTELLA most two-handed bowlers have this exact issue. The best way to correct the issue is to make sure when you release the ball that your release hand is behind the ball instead of on the top of the ball and when you rotate the ball, you need to be using your middle finger to add the rotation. You should feel more lift on your middle finger versus your ring finger.
This made good sense to me. I'm about to grab a ball and start trying it out in my house!
I am glad it made sense. Welcome to the channel!
Thanks!
@@mikekaupa9190 you are very welcome!
The non ball side hand must support/ guide the ball swing/arc and proper release for control and revolutions. But One hander has to do all this with both holding the ball and releasing the thumb first.
@@getsmartpaul very true! Check the full video in the description!
So the newer urethane cover-stock gives more shape , carry and less carry down is a good thing ? This technology is ever changing! Ha ha
it's a very good thing as it maintains pattern integrity and shape throughout competition - very similar to what you get with a reactive cover ball.
I struggle with this personally cause I have broad shoulders. It’s difficult for me to get my upper body turned sideways like that.
I definitely understand that. The goal should be to have your shoulders in line but if you lack the flexibility to get there completely, getting most of the way there or even half way will help improve your two handed approach.
@@BigSkyBowler thanks for the feedback. I had a lesson today with my coach Shawn and he helped me with my approach. My second step wasn’t crossing over step 1 , which wasn’t moving opening my hip to (make space) for my swing. I had a very solid practice and this helped me open my hip to allow space for these silverback shoulders lol. 😝. I appreciate ya bro.
@@MrThinkImPossible that's awesome! Glad to hear about the progress you've made! Thanks!
That’s not the pocket, that is a high 4.
@@jasonkubanis416 ball entered high pocket at the 18th board. High flush is 17.5. true pocket is 17. Entering the pocket at these different areas is a direct result of the friction, or lack thereof, that the ball encounters as it travels down the lane.
@@BigSkyBowleror you just missed left… you need to blame yourself sometimes too, it’s not always the lane’s fault
I did not miss left. If you watch the ball travel down the lane, the intended target line was 15 at the arrows and 10 at the breakpoint. I agree, sometimes you have to blame yourself but in this case, the intended line was hit within a half board on a house shot.
@@BigSkyBowler i have never seen anyone play such a tight line to the pocket in my whole life before, it is your fault because you’re not giving yoursrlf enough missroom, you gotta blame yourself on this one if you’re playing this type of line. I’ll suggest move left a little bit and open your angles a little more with a stronger ball
@@livarusgta8288 You play the pattern the way it wants to be played. In this case, the left over house shot had plenty of carry down and wanted to be played straighter. You cannot simply just move left with a strong ball all of the time. Once this particular house shot breaks down, it plays better with tighter angles to the pocket. The over/under reaction gets real tough through the night when your bowling against a team of straight bowlers with plastic.
It also works better when you hit the pocket and don’t come in high
Of course... The cause of the ball going in too high however is a direct result in overall ball motion.
Yooo I bowled this tournament too, didn’t make the cut either but man was it fun!
It's always fun, even when you don't make it.

Is it possible for a 2hander to plant instead of slide w/o losing balance?
@@pho_bowler definitely! There are plenty of two handers who do. I would be more concerned about knee health however over the long term, than about balance.
@@BigSkyBowler Tell me about it. My plant foot has a torn acl in my younger years so I switched hands do to bicep tear and knee issues. Love your tips on the videos! Hopefully one day I can bowl properly without pain.
@@pho_bowler sorry to hear about that knee. Keeping your other knee healthy is going to be important. If you don't know how to slide, I recommend taking the time to learn using one step drills. Thanks for the compliments!
@@BigSkyBowler One step drill it is! I developed a bad habit of landing heal first that leads to all kinds of problems. Will try to land flat. I’m using the leather heal paired w/ #6. Let me know if you recommend something else! Thank you for your time replying to your followers.👊🏽
@@pho_bowler of course! An s6 is right in the middle and a good starting point. You may want to try a 7 or even an 8 though depending on your approaches. The heel is a good starting point as well. Going with more brake would likely be too much of an adjustment. Don't be afraid to experiment with different combinations.
I think the test itself is interesting but at the end of the video you hit the answer straight on its head... It's the amount of flare that creates and/or affects the amount of "carrydown" the most as a variable. This has actually been scientifically proven and i think Radical Mo Pinel co-published a paper on this back in his days (rip). An inch flare will create substantially more carrydown than a 3 inch flare when rolling over the same spot and ill get to why later... But what also was proven in the paper which is paramount in this discussion isnt just the distance in width of the total flare but the distance between each revolution of flare line between each revolution. (there's only so much of a ball that can touch the lane at any given point since its a spherical object) A tight or barely any dry between each revolution is the king of creating carrydown and the least carrydown you will find on an asymmetric bowling ball with flare rings wide apart and long distance from first to last. What's also very important is the actual "dry lines" past the "wet" pattern, balls and layouts will promote an increase/decrease or relatively stable dry flare which starts just to the side of the last "wet" flare unless the ball "stands up" as in the core asymmetry in relation to ball path is equalled in which case it will start on the last wet lines and that promotes skid (and carrydown). The correlation between wet and dry flare lines is not entirely symmetric but the dry lines do tend "try" to follow the wet by trying to replicating the distance and width as much as it can in the time alloted. Remember that the ball travels 2/3 of the distance in wet on a normal distance pattern so the dry flare timing is much more aggressive, sudden and of shorter period in total for many factors such as its frictional response happens. Therefor you tend to see dry flare line squish its flare rings distances (between each revolution of the ball) slightly compared to the wet and since its less time you also tend to see less total "rings" as in revolutions too. This portion is also affected by a bowlers Revs just like other metrics ie speed. The problem with your test if i go back to beginning of my comment even though its very interesting and proves a point in its methodology is like you said, there's no revolutions beyond its "roll" and neither is there any added TILT or axis rotation. They roll "end over end" These like you mentioned as "layout" defines the ball motion with its natural RG, DIFF and INT DIFF and then promoted/demoted by this layout and how a bowler throws it in the end. But im sure you cant afford a throwbot to simulate a real bowlers toss and replicate it 100% each and every throw by a person is a tall ask 😅 To my point; I believe this is why your test showed the plastic as a winner in terms of the most "carrydown" simply because it rolled the most "end over end" while the urethane and your solid had its holes drilled and you did an excellent job trying to make them go absolutely as straight as possible you can see in the video their natural progression due to its instability shifting the imbalance and it was the most evident with your solid. This is because of the holes drilled in the balls creates that imbalance of the ball as intended. If you had filmed the ball is super slow-mo you'd see it make that "wiggle" with each revolution (i call it duck butt walk for lack of better analogy) I wish you had filmed/photod the balls flare from each of the throw and you'd probably notice it too how its actually creeping even though you did a great job trying to make it roll as neutral and end over end as possible. On a longer test track or simulation it would be even more evident up until the point it goes "perfectly balanced" and i use quotes because it will never be perfectly balanced mathematically due to the holes drilled. Try it next time since you built that sweet ramp and see for yourself" even if you let it go rolling end over end it will shift over distance and therefor the track will move just ever so slightly rather than rolling exactly end over end. This adds "contact point" of fresh non-oiled ball tracking to the lane that can "pick up" oil but it will never touch the lane again. This is why we get our "fronts ruined" because balls "pick up" oil and takes it with them and comes back in the ball return with its oil flares visible having never deposited it back to the lane. What deposits oil on the dry part of the lane outside of "end over end" roll is simply the fact that the ball is in equillibrium with its weighted angle of motion compared to the ball travel path just when it enters the end of the pattern or "dry part", if its not in equilibrium it will not skid (unless oil has been deposited at the contact point but we assume its clean) because the contact point will be a dry part of the ball and a dry part of the lane it will create motion almost instantanously because of that friction (This is where coverstock material, core and such determines the reaction but also all the other factors such as axis rotation, tilt, revs, speed etc... But surface is always king when it comes to the "reaction" part of friction and/or how "snappy") Now when it comes to actual surface itself, a plastic, pure urethane, solid and or its pearl hybrids you were correct that the surface grit is what matters the most for its the peaks and valleys where the oil can "rest" in will determine the volume of oil carried by the "flare" just as the amount of "ball" will touch the lane. I distinctly remember Mo mention this as something that is negligble compared to the other metrics but it is mathematical and measureable, no matter its a very small effect. But i liked that you covered that basis by just having all the balls at the same grit! Edit: I'd like to add that if it wasnt obvious im an advocate that it doesn't matter what the ball is made of but much more so is the instability, flare pattern and/or rolling end over end that actually matters for carrydown more than anything else. The ball surface can be more slick or able to "pick up" oil yes, but the significant part in my opinion is what part "spot" of the ball is touching the lanes and when rather than what its made of. Sorry for my grammar and im not a native english speaker. Overall its a great video and interesting test! I really like it and stuff like this gives me nerd vibes to the max :D
Thank you! I wish I could do more testing with balls that are undrilled to truly get accurate results with what surface type would carry the most oil down to the pins.
Plastic does have much more carry down than any other ball. It's literally what they do. Since like you said they don't flare. Even the high end Plastic balls with asym cores will have very little flare compared to anything else. Just try it sometime. Get a Plastic ball and slow hook it down your mark where your breakpoint is for a handful of shots. You'll basically create a sports shot and completely destroy the pattern. It's also why bowling league against teams that only use straight balls is more difficult. Urethane can be bad with carry down but there's a massive reason. It's that people don't properly wipe the ball after their previous shot. Even then much more oil will be left on the cover compared to just pushing it down the lane. People complain about it to complain typically. Then reactive will pick the most up because fresh ball is constantly going through the oil and its very unlikely to roll over soiled ball surface. These balls also absorb oil so wiping the ball isn't a big issue compared to other options. Since it'll be relatively fresh on the next shot. The only real problem would be using a reactive cover that doesn't absorb as much or using alot of polish. Then not using a towel or shirt between shots. In the end the best way to maintain lanes is having people throw in similar zones consistently. If you have a bad team or people on your pair the lanes will be ruined regardless of what ball is used. If you have a few people establishing a breakpoint then that shot will last for 6 games with little movement.
@@stompingpeak2043 No. That's not how physics works and honestly i could sit here and write another essay of why you're wrong in your statement. I can make a purple hammer flare about 2/3rds of the ball side just as i can make a plastic ball with a symmetric weightblock in it do it aswell (it doesnt matter if its polished too kek). A plastic ball with no core in it merely a filler material will do as i stated above, roll end over end. HOWEVER A symmetric core is inherently more stable than any asymmetric core. It's more of a challenge and a thumb user will be much easier to do this for than a 2H bowler because they also naturally almost all have very low tilt and the added huge hole ofcourse... So with an asymmetric core, a proper drilling layout taking to account the PSA will create flare (how much) based of bowlers stats and PAP. That's physics, not my opinion. You're welcome to try re-revolutionize bowling and basicly take the pioneers like Pinel and Ron from radical and countless others who worked on this for decades and tell them math is wrong. You then state something that i explicitly pointed out in my comment, straight balls create carrydown while disagreeing with that very notion from my text? huh? I'm telling you, it wont matter what the surface is and especially absorption rate because any normal decent bowler will wipe their ball each and every shot. Do you really think a 4 minute absorption rate will matter in the 2 seconds range the ball is in the front part of the lane? I hope not. I'll give you points on the fact that certain bowlers dont wipe their balls and you are hypothetically correct in that regard that it could create scenarios where by it creates 'carrydown' hell while we're even thinking about it i would agree it could even enhance it. I dont like to argue over hypothetical scenarios... Fact is bowlers should wipe their ball with each throw, its kinda taught at a basic starter level and nobody likes slippery. You're also misinformed or just ignoring the fact that a reactive ball can have low flare, a very popular ball is the scorpion or another like the rattler for an example ;). A low flaring ball will roll over the same part of the ball until it meets friction, dump it and then hook -> roll. Asymmetric balls can be drilled to be low flare aswell however its like i said much harder the higher the DIFF is and also intermediate differential plays a role especially at the hook ->roll phase. This is no different from plastic, urethane, reactives and their coverstock derivatives. And here's maybe another fun fact for you, hybrids and pearls (silica) are reactives too! They're just blended solids with additives. It's a marketing naming scheme to easy it down for normal people. Coverstock formulas is still today very secretive between brands.

Any advice for getting oil tracks over finger holes ? Currently am struggling with that I’m a right hand 2 hander
You mean you have an oil track going over finger holes? The best way to get the track off of the finger holes is to induce more rotation at the release to increase your tilt. Finger pitches also play a very big role. You want more reverse pitch in your ring finger than you have in your middle finger.

@@hethan_life meaning your ring finger needs to be pierced away from the balls core and your middle finger needs to be pitched towards the balls core. Your pro shop operator will know what this means.
