It's a way of living that one can only feel, but not describe. A way of being alone. I thought that a different Life could be Better. And in some way It Is. But i miss that way of being alone. Thank you Bill
so long marianne - If your name suggests that you are a fan of Leonard Cohen, you have a new subscriber. I love Cohen, and in particular, I think 'So Long, Marianne' could well be his best song. I miss Leonard so badly!
I am also a big fan of Leonard and miss him greatly, even though I never met him. His candid lyrics and interviews made me feel as though I *did* know him. Bill Callahan was recommended to me recently and I see similarities.
Mesmerizing song! "The real people went away But I'll find a better way, someday Leaving only me and my dreams My cattle And a resonator I drove all the beasts down right under your nose The lumbering footloose power The bull and the rose Don't touch them Don't try to hurt them My cattle I drove them by the crops and thought the crops were lost I consoled myself with rudimentary thoughts And I set my watch against the city clock It was way off Yeah, one thing about this wild, wild country It takes a strong, strong It breaks a strong, strong mind Yeah, one thing about this wild, wild country It takes a strong, strong It breaks a strong, strong mind And anything less, anything less Makes me feel like I'm wasting my time But the pain and frustration is not mine It belongs to the cattle Through the valley And when my cattle turns on me I was knocked back flat I was knocked out cold for one clack of the train track Then I rose a colossal hand buried, buried in sand I rose like a drover For I am, in the end a drover A drover by trade And when my cattle turns on me I am a drover double fold My cattle bears it all away for me and everyone Yeah, one thing about this wild, wild country It takes a strong, strong It breaks a strong, strong mind And anything less, anything less Makes me feel like I'm wasting my time"
I guess I discovered the documentary later. I can't be the only one. The Drag City record label is unreal. Just check out Bill and Will Oldham collaborating. RIP David Berman..
I was recently put onto him by a British (Welsh specifically) indie folk-pop act called Sweet Baboo. In his song Let's Go Swimming Wild he says to his sweetheart, "Let's play Drover and drive away." I asked him what Drover was and he told me about Bill Callahan---and here I am. Now want to watch that documentary.
So i'm walking down Seven Sisters road, and I'm half singing to myself- "it takes a strong, strong, it breaks a strong, strong mind". Next time I look at my phone, it's displaying an advert for a Rover dealership called Drover. Modern life is a con.
Impressive ! Bill is the most underrated great American artist currently alive. If he'd been playing in the 60's, they would now be making a doc like "Searching for Sugar Man" about him
One thing about this wild, wild country It takes a strong, strong.. it breaks a strong, strong mind Yea, one thing about this wild, wild country It takes a strong, strong.. it breaks a strong, strong mind
Waits is quite different in his song structure. Both he and Callahan are two of my all-time favorite musicians. Incredible lyrics!! Also, Damien Jurado is a killer artist!!
@@caseytins Callahan is definitely one of my all time favourites. He knows how to write simple songs and make them sound interesting and intricate with emotion
Melancholic 🪡
I know it sounds mean but I can’t stand his guitar player. The reverby string bend thing just grates me to my bones.
MATT KINSEY
Yes, incredible on the guitar!! He's been with Bill for years now!
People coming from Netflix but is anyone else here because of a Dylan Rieder vid?

This is fantastic, I would likeed to have seen the violin play a part

Embarrassed to say I didn’t know this song until I saw the Netflix doc. Now I’m obsessed with this mesmerizing tune!
What documentary?
@@sillprinka5331 Wild Wild Country. It's a decent documentary. The music is great. Longtime fan of Bill Callahan. He's amazing live!
weirdly looks a bit like Elon Musk and I can just imagine him kinda rock'n out to this song.
There’s Bill and Bob, Bill gets the lions share.
l'ho scoperto ieri sera!Cosa mi sono persa!Una meraviglia!
Beata te che hai tutto il suo repertorio da scoprire. Io l'ho consumato!

It’s not even close to the same situation but sure, he’s underrated

Those drums at the end.
Tom Waites really shines through on this brilliant song.
Waites is an actor, great musician and artist, but an actor.
Thought i was listening to Dylan
