What are some of the more famous end-times predictions that did not (obviously) pan out? How does apocalyptic thinking pervade our culture and impact us today? I've been convicted by the Holy Spirit three different times in sixteen years. When this supernatural, otherworldly experience happens, I am made to HATE sin, read the Bible and spiritual literature, give money to the poor, be nice to people, etc. Could you comment on your experiences with the Holy Spirit?

      I have had a similar experiences in my life, 4 times so far. The first one was when I was a teenager and I asked God a very important and personal question, the answer came to me and the feeling almost moved me to tears. The second experience that I received was when I studied and saw the vastness of the universe, I couldn't contain the feeling of other wordiness. I had to take a break and just stand outside, it was one of my most spiritual experiences ever, and it came from an atheistic Astronomy teacher, once the feeling was gone another feeling came over me saying maybe god doesn't exist. The other two happened after I became atheistic. The 3rd one was when I took a look at a jet engine and contemplated on the fact that the engine took countless human hours to figure out and create, from discovering the scientific principles to the countless engineers that had to put their skills and knowledge to crack such an mind-boggling complex problem, that thought moved me to tears and inspired me to start learning and studying science on a more serious manner. The last great feeling that I got and the most intense so far was when I was reading Nietzsche and came across his concept of amor-fati. Ask yourself "if a supernatural entity told you 'you are going to live this life over and over again for all eternity' will you fall to your knees cry and curse the demon for all eternity or will you thank the divine entity for giving you the opportunity to live this amazing life forever and ever?" this shook me to my core and the feeling came back, that was an even more intense experience than back to my teenage years and inspired me to look for a purpose that transcends me. I decided to start this journey by treating people with dignity and respect. Please note that all those 4 experiences felt exactly the same with different levels of intensity. TL;DR Religion has monopolized words like spirituality, transcendence, divine inspiration, etc... and hogged them to themselves, but you can have such experiences while not believing on God. Scientists have actually found were to stimulate those brain regions to give you those feelings on a very reproducible manner.

  • @Blacksheepishot
    @Blacksheepishot 8 років тому

    That to the point lecture was truly the best. We both know billions in every generation go thought that forced conversion process jazz and soon become truly lost. In my case 39 years ago we had this quest loudmouth preaching fanatic whom used what had too be a wicked form of terrorism to win souls for? Was near the end of a long most boring sunday evening service when he said these hateful and most insulting words. He said,"please I beg you to come too the cross right now tonight and blah blah accept Jesus blah blah as your lord and blah! Then like any born again slave too that jew created word he went to damn far. Began to scream loudly this,"Hear the voice of your loving Heavenly Father, if you were to leave this service tonight unsaved and die in a fatal car crash there's a very good chance you would spend an eternity in hell with no way too ever escape those flesh consuming flames?" At this point many weak minds soon become permanently brainwashed while others with a better understanding of what is truth and what is a lie wisely break away as I did with zero regrets.

    @ about 17:00 He talks about the lack of enthusiasm about dying as a Christian. @ about 18:00 He says what has been on my mind a long time: For instance "believing" parents will get their dangerously ill or seriously injured child to a hospital FIRST, and then later maybe think to pray. A little later he says that in his years as a pastor he has NEVER seen prayer work!

    I'm saving the whole video to watch carefully later, but I have to wonder how much this man's "atheism" has to do with his ejection from the clergy roster of his denomination because of sexual misconduct? Does he ever - has he ever - admitted this publicly in his quest to become a leader of this new dogma? I don't think I can believe anything that comes out of this man's mouth.

      @philmabarak5421 3 роки тому

      @@jchristopher83 They can be explained via the subconscious. At least dreams. And there is no evidence of visions. And dreams are the result of one's beliefs, experiences, and subconscious. No evidence that dreams are directed by the supernatural. Christians will have Christian dream and Muslims will have muslim dreams and so on. Zero legitimate predictions or prophecy are forthcoming from dreams . Zero!

    As a white guy, I find it encouraging to see so many black people in that audience. It's always blown my mind that black Americans not only acquired the religious beliefs of their slave owners...but actually ran with it and became *_more_* religious than other demographics. I completely understand why many slaves acquiesced to Christian culture to avoid being singled out; and even found hope in myths like Exodus. But, thankfully those days are over and it seems many black Americans are waking up to the legit harm of religion...and how their demographic suffers under it more than most. It's refreshing to see a crowd of atheists that isn't just a sea of white yuppies. Atheism is _truly_ inclusive. :)

      +avedic Think Ethiopia ...were they forced into religion as well because of the color of their skin... your preaching but its hatred and separation your preaching..and there is NO contradictions in the KJV... but then again you never read the bible when you were a Christian nor did any seeking.. so of course your faith left you as it leaves all who give only lip service to God. Try again.. for God is waiting..

    • @danmiller6462
      @danmiller6462 7 років тому

      avedic I'm surprised that any black people still follow the Christian faith when it was forced upon their ancestors. Who would want to stick to a religion that condoned their being held as slaves?

  • @avedic
    @avedic 10 років тому

    He makes a great point about Christians not *_really_* believing the Bible is the best book ever written or inspired by any real god, about the efficacy of prayer, or the reality of heaven or hell. Their actions alone betray their proclamations of belief. It was realizations like _that_ that lead me away from faith entirely. I realized that I literally believed The Creator of All Reality wrote...a book; a book I had never read all the way through. Hell, I barely read 15% as a Christian. Once contradictions like that(and many more) became clear to me, I realized that I never *_really_* believed...and I finally had the courage to realize that was a *_good_* thing.

    Witness testimony can be falsified. It is better to have physical evidence for a crime and combine it with what the witnesses say to see if everything fits. Or, you need a large number of witnesses who have nothing to do with each other. In the case of Jesus, the witnesses are all club members of Jesus's cult. Can't trust them.

    Ken Ham is on the very brink of losing his belief. He is an all-or-nothing believer in the bible, no cognitive dissonance or 'theistic evolution' for him. As he says in the clip, all that has to happen is for one verse, just one, to be shown to be incorrect and his whole faith would crumble around him. THAT is the reason he rejects evolution. He is SOOO close to atheism, but so entrenched in faith. He is totally correct when he says that evolution and belief in the bible are incompatible.

    I am agnostic on whether Jesus actually existed, because there is not enough evidence either way. It is entirely possible he did, but it's also possible that the Jesus story may have been a combination of stories about several different men. Prophets were very common in those days, and Jesus was a very common name. So I neither believe nor disbelieve whether Jesus existed or not.If he did, he was a man with some radical ideas for his time.I'm an atheist as far as belief in god is concerned.
