No Anthony Jackson compilation would be complete without for the love of money?
True! There are a few online already….
and thank you for such a comprehensive & amazing compilation. your bass collection is stunning... I would love to get my hands on a lefty Stenbeck!
Great stuff, man!
Thanks 🙏🏼
Very good job buddy 👌
Thanks 🙏🏼 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Uh, that ain't in 4 :) Great stuff as always! Sounds like 1979 for sure!
Ok so there are covers and there are covers but no covers can cover this cover.
Might be to be discovered

Great transcription. You got that AJ feel on the quarter notes down pat. Great job.🔥🔥
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thanks Michael!
brilliant work. a true labor of love.
Great job!!! You nailed it. How did you hear the difference between the key parts and the bass parts to get all those notes… they sound right to me, did you add any of your own notes, or this is what Jeff played? but I couldn’t hear those on the recording? Nice!!!
Thanks for your comment. I checked a live version of this by Jeff Berlin where the bass is a bit more clear. I made a combination of that version with the original version. And had to leave out some of those incredibly fast lines, obviously :-)
This has the GOODS
AJ paying homage to his main man; James! The original was Jamerson and not Babbitt correct?
That’s very correct indeed!

Charles man, I might end up commenting on every one of your videos over the years, but you're the man!!
Amazing 👌👌
Thanks 🙏🏼
That is SPOT ON! Don't get basslilnes like this in modern music do we! Nice one..👍👍👍
Beautiful ‘60 stacker there my man! Immediately I recognized it…and totally LUV IT!
🙏🏼
Oh…it’s a ‘98 Reissue! For a minute there I thought it was an actual ‘60! Did you install the mute holes in front of the bridge there, or did it come to you that way? USA or Japanese made?
@@luvbasses5487I bought it just a few years ago, it’s a ‘98 Japanese made model and I didn’t change a thing except for removing a capacitor (which made it sound better). I’ve tried a few originals and must say, soundwise it can compete with the original.
Originally on the ‘60 J there were little brown bee caps and people have removed em in order to increase output. I believe Leo changed to the initial three knob control assembly (the few protos from ‘59 were three knob) by mid ‘61 because players complained of the low output of the stack controls. Personally I like the 3-knob assembly better. It’s definitely more louder and articulate.

is there a full version available?
There’s a full version transcription on my website available. I haven’t made a video of the full song yet
Outstanding! Do you have videos of you doing the full songs?

Which model should I buy from Raickainbacker to have the same old sound a new model or an old one in good condition ? Whip you recommend ? Are the new model sound good & organic like the one you play here in this video ? I am crazy about buying one but I want the best advice from you please thanks a lot, what a beautiful videos you have & amazing playing exactly like the original tracks well done
Thanks for your comment and kind words 🙏🏼😊 I’m not sure if the old Rickenbackers are better than the newer ones. I can only tell from my experience. The bass I’m using in these videos is an Ibanez lawsuit Rickenbacker from the 70’s, modified with a Bill Lawrence G3 pickup (from around 1975-1977) at the bridge. It has a bolt on neck, and as you can see, the Neck pickup placed like the later Ricks (1975 and younger) have. After I made the videos I bought myself a real Rickenbacker 4001 from 1974, completely stock. It has the other neck pickup placement, which provides a more hollow tone then the Ricks from 1975 and later. From around 2006 it’s possible to bypass the capacitor, which gives the bridge pickup more low end. I have never compared it with the newer models. I know that Leon Sylvers used a 1973 azurglo Rick. Which means my 1974 comes close to those specs. 1973 has a toaster pickup at the neck, I think that’s the only difference. I also have the 1974 strung with flats. Somehow this Ibanez can compete with it easily. It might be a good idea to check it and do a comparison video…

A great tribute to one of the best funk/disco bassists ever.
I’d forgotten just how good Jeff Berlin was. He really was one of the 70s innovators of bass along with Clarke, Jaco, and AJ, and you can hear the influence on guys like Gary Willis, Matt Garrison, Hadrian Feraud etc. Super tight playing.
Amazing tone! What strings are you using?
Thanks for your comment. I believe the strings are old D’addario Chromes flatwound strings
muy bien
¡Muchas grácias!
Excellent!
🙏🏼 🙏🏼
The bass playing on this classic gem wasn't Leon Sylvers, III. It was actually the group Midnight Star's bassist Kenneth Gant.
Thanks for your comment. However, with such extended credit line up on discogs.com, Kenneth Gant is not even listed??? Check it out: www.discogs.com/release/302584-Shalamar-Friends
@charlesngtzm Actually, my original and previous comment was in reply to your video "Here I Am" by Dynasty. Unfortunately, it landed under the Shalamar "There It Is" vid while still writing and posting as it ended switching over to next clip.
Can you try Home from The Wiz please? I really need a bass track for my instrumental track of it.
Thanks for your request. However things are busy at the moment, and Home is, although it’s a brilliantly played track, not high on my wish-to-do list
Those lines at bars 83 and 91 are fantastic. This whole album is a low end workout, some nasty tricky lines all in the first 5-7 frets. Getting the articulation right on those low notes is very difficult but you nailed it. Also interesting to see when down tuned on a 4 that there’s a lot of open strings a la Jamerson. Makes them sound better and the fingering significantly easier as on a regular tuned 5 string these are HARD to play 😂
That’s correct. It’s a very hard work out and in my opinion undoable with a standard tuned 5 string. The muting on a detuned four string took a while to get to a certain kind of control, too, though. Thanks for your comment 🙏🏼
I gotta admit you do a hell of a job on these covers. Im impressed!
I thought I was bad with my bass collection Sir. You are worse. I call it the player's addiction. LOL
I have no words for this... I see sooo much work 😮
😅🙏🏼
Leon Silvers the 3rd produced arranged and played the bass, drums and keys on those great records he was prolific for the Solar label. An amazing singular talent.
I totally agree! 🙏🏼❤️
How on earth have I not seen this until now? Thank God the youtube algorithm finally did its job. Great effort man! This is one of the hardest basslines to play.
Thanks for your comment! 🙏🏼
You made my evening! This is fantastic! Must have been a lot of work to learn to sightread in this tuning!
Thanks for your comment. Of course it would be hard to sightread the notes with a different tuning. However, I transposed the sheet to two whole steps up when I was reading. I’m not great with tabs reading so did it like that.
@@charlesngtzm Very clever! Indeed! I will give it a try
