How to go from an untouched, small backyard to growing your own food
Do you get the seeds from the flower or the fruit?
Hi, the seeds are inside the fruit. If you’re able to get a cutting, it’s a much faster process to grow!
theyve been in tht ziploc almost a year?
Yes! They were in there for almost a year! I mentioned that they were grossly neglected lol.
Helpful!
I have some questions, do you have Facebook or Instagram, I would like some directions for my Peruvian apple tree
Yes! You can reach me on Facebook facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088334241675&mibextid=LQQJ4d or instagram instagram.com/thecelestialharvest?igsh=MTZyNXBsZHFnNzZmbg%3D%3D&
I have a Peruvian apple cactus and its a bit over 12ft tall. I love the blooms and I've tried the fruit, though I leave them attached for the birds to eat.
That’s awesome! What area are you growing in? Here in central Florida (9B) they’re growing like weeds!
@@CelestialHarvest I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada. The cactus was here when I bought my home and it's grown a few feet in the past 4 years. The last 2 years I've had a lot of bees around it and the cactus had triple the blooms and fruit!!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing 💕
@@mondayloux255912 ft is wild. Do you build any support to prepare for windy/stormy days? I have one that's like 3 feet and I'm always worried I'll wake up one morning to it knocked over.
@@dabalishis1585 So far I haven't had any problems during windy days, even when it's 50mph+ . It does move a little, but not bad and it's up against my house next to another tree. I've read and heard people say the tree can reach heights of 30ft.
you're a real natural! I subscribed you're great thank you!
Thank you! I appreciate the support 💕
Your propagation method for this plant is really poor
This has been a very successful method for me. In fact, I haven’t lost a cutting to date. What is your preferred method of propagation? I’m sure others would love to hear additional successful methods!
@@CelestialHarvest I hear you, you are probably also in a area where you cannot propagate directly into soil? Not sure? Issue with paper towel for me is that you sprout very long thin seedlings because the lack of sunshine and nutrients with germination. For me it is all about programming the seed when germinating, when doing this in a very nice and very wet environment it could stimulate the seedling in thinking it hit the lottery in terms of where it germinated, these seedlings tend to suffer a bit when transplanting then later. I like to prepare a small bowl with coarse soil and a little bit of compost. I would then soak the soil thoroughly then plant the seeds just below the surface. I would then put the pot into a freezer back and poke a small hole into the bag for some oxygen. I put my pot outside where it can have some morning sun and within 7 days you will have sprouts. After say 7 - 8 days I will remove the freezer bag and have the seedlings grow in that container for at least one more year before transplanting to bigger containers. I have success in this way and seedlings also tend to be stronger and more adapted to the environment...
Thank you so much for your reply! This makes a lot of sense. I was referring to the method of propagating by cutting. Putting seeds in a bag was something I just tried out and it worked, but your method makes a lot of sense for growing strong plants. I’ll test it out with my next batch of seeds. Have a great day!
@@CelestialHarvest oh yes I understand. Sorry I was referring to the seeds... no problem with the cuttings hahaha. Good luck
I have those lizards everywhere
Good video. I have several of these and I absolutely love them. 30' is very short, as they have been known to grow to 130 feet tall so be aware of that. They are in fact the world's tallest cactus.
Thank you! I agree they can get taller, but those kind of heights require trellising. Have you had any plants grow over 30 ft without a trellis?
No I haven't but the mother of the plants that I have are over 50 feet tall and they are still young. To attain tall growth leave the suckers and they will become self supporting and can grow to 100 feet plus. On large properties this is practical but for growth in pots, not so much. Here in the Caribbean they grow in clusters on rocky mountain tops and are majestic and beautiful especially when they are full of fruit😊.
Thank you so mych! A very helpful vedio. We've got a farm in Sinai will get ours planted on March. Great job on propagating the seed. 👍 💚 🌵
Thank you! I wish you a plentiful harvest! 😊🌵
She said to take off the fruit . But then plants it with fruit on it... I'm confused
Hi! The video shows the fruit being removed at about 3:30 right before it went into the ground. You should remove the fruit to allow the plant’s energy to go toward making roots. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Beautiful plant and awesome flowers! 🌵🌺
Poor baby don't understand😢
Why does he have an enclosure?? He clearly is old enough to be free.😢❤
That’s actually a long answer (and we have tried to reintroduce him…which ended with a feral cat nearly catching him) but to sum it up, he wouldn’t survive if we just let him out. He doesn’t have the skills nor winter stores to survive. He’s living a good life until the time is right 💕 thanks for caring
I live in fla. The cats entered my mind, not the cold. I'm sure you know best for your furry friends Thank you for answering my question 🙏
Even though these little guys eat most of the bird food that I put out, they are still the cutest😊
I agree…even though they tend to dig up my garden to plant their nuts!
Planted way to close to wall. It gets bushy.
Hi! Thanks for the comment! There are some varieties that can become like a dense hedge. This one is pretty easy to keep vertical with a little pruning 😊
you might have wanted to plant out those seedlings about 50 weeks ago
Hi! These actually aren’t seedlings, but cuttings. We usually cut back the parent plant in fall where I live and then root the cuttings. I’m not sure I understand the time frame you are suggesting they should be planted. Could you tell me more? Thanks
Beautiful cactus🎉 Subscribed to your channel 🎉🎉
Thank you so much! 😊
Hi! Thanx for the video love it 🌵!! I want one of these but im at 4,500ft elevation and we get freezes 🥶 and snow ❄️🌨️ will it die in these conditions? I want to get something that can resist this and that i won't have to worry about covering in winter
Hello! Thanks for the question. Man, you’ve got a difficult set of growing conditions! As far as freezes go, we have had some freezes into the twenties which have not killed off my plants (or my neighbors). Zone 8-11 is what the plant is rated to be hardy for, but I understand that in the low teens is where the plant will start to freeze. As far as the elevation goes, I’ve only seen confirmation of growth at 1000ft. For reference I’m at about 45ft. I’m not sure about how quickly/well they would grow with the oxygen deprivation, but they are a pretty resilient plant. With all of that said, people have grown these successfully in pots. You would need to move them to be protected during winter. When in doubt, give it a shot! And if you do, please let me know how the plant grows. I’d love to be able to share that information with others! Good luck!
Love it
Thank you!
Hi! Super helpful. Can you show what your mother cactus plant looks like once you cut it? Does it grow another arm (if that makes sense) lol
I’m so glad the video was helpful! I’m not sure where I can post a picture here, but if you check out the last video I put out ( ua-cam.com/video/3M3qPb1Zc6g/v-deo.htmlsi=Z9DVwI7-2d-27HBX ) it shows where the new growth emerges from the cut portion. You’re correct, it will grow additional “arms” from the edges of where the cut was made.
💚
Thank you
@ceaserelizondo hope this is helpful!
Yes, it was and thank you so much. I would also like to see the fruit from when the flower falls off. I also have another question, I used the same pollen to pollinate the flower, and yes, the flower fell, and the little stub was left, but like you said 2 day and it fell off. Do I have to use a different pollen from another plant or the same pollen from the cactus 🌵. Thank you once again.
I like squirtles😊
Make a video on how you know your going to produce fruit and what to look for and how it look before and after. I never see videos like that.
That’s a great suggestion! I’ll start working on it 👍

mine loves grapes also
I just came across your channel while researching everglade tomatoes. I acquired some seeds and grew some this year at my home here in south Florida. I am curious if all the everglade tomatoes are the same approximate size. I was surprised that mine were each approximately 1/2 inch in size. Each tomato is very delicious and flavorful. I am curious if all ever everglade tomatoes are this small. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the question! Yes, all of the Everglades tomatoes are small at around 1/2 an inch. I personally feel that they have the best flavor of all of the tomatoes I’ve successfully grown here in Florida. I do know that they have been used to hybridize other varieties, so I suppose there could be something listed as an “everglade” that’s a hybrid which would grow larger.
Sweet little "Piggy"! I can't believe how much he has changed and grown! ❤
He sure has grown a lot! 🥰
That is an eastern black racer.
I definitely think it’s a black racer! Eastern makes sense since we are in Florida 😊
That is NOT a bee. That is a wasp. Either a yellow jacket or paper wasp. Both are 100x as aggressive as a bee.
Great observation! It is likely a paper wasp. They do a great job taking care of caterpillars in my garden. You’re also correct that they can be aggressive. I’ve not personally had any problem with them.
Bro that hornet is sooo weird I can’t do that in a million years
That’s understandable…I know they’re not everybody’s thing. It was a cool experience though
Hi Mrs. Celeste this is Paityn I love you videos love you
