I used to use Eyezen Start for SV distance, but I now migrated over to Varilux XR and it’s amazing. But I spend enough time reading that I think I should have a dedicated SV reading pair as well. I like being able to lay down in bed and read using the 2nd focal point at the bottom of the lens, so the Dual Optim that I used to have would be helpful. Are Eyezen Start and Eyezen +0 basically the same thing, both without any add power, but with 2 focal points for my regular prescription? I need to order something for reading without any additional add power, but I don’t know which one of these is the right one to get for me.

I can obviously go to the optometrist and find out BUT I can NOT find anywhere on the web, including this video (or is at 39:00+/-), how the data is being acquired to design and create the unique-to-me lens(es). All I hear is over the top marketing and blah blah blah high praise words. "A digital twin....", "through behavioral artificial intelligence..." How????? Am I wearing something for a couple weeks gathering this data of how MY eyes are moving??? Am I going the optomotrist and he's fitting me with some sort of technology that collects this data???? How? What? OR is the lens itself just a different type of lens? I just don't understand.

Yes, the equation can be found in this paper: Zadnik K, Mutti DO, Mitchell GL, Jones LA, Burr D, Moeschberger ML. Normal eye growth in emmetropic schoolchildren. Optom Vis Sci. Nov 2004;81(11):819-28. doi:10.1097/01.opx.0000145028.53923.67

Great video. Wore progressives for three years and hated them. Swore I'd never wear them again. Recently made aware of the Varilux XR and started to do research. First thing I learned was how little i knew about progressive lenses. Discovered what a nit I'd been when I bought my old lenses. Already leaning towards Varilux XR. This video closed me. America doesn't go to work until a salesperson gets out of bed. This video talked right to me.

Would this XR series be beneficial to a person who has 1 eye that the vision is greatly compromised? My husband wears progressive lenses and has not been able to find a lens that gives him long distance vision, is it possible this lens technology could benefit him because it helps both eyes work together. All opticians put the same prescription in both lenses when his right eye is severely compromised. I'm trying to find a solution to his situation, as I know he will never have normal vision in his right eye, I am hoping Varilux XR may be able to help him see better with both eyes working together.

Hey Dawn! Your husband should discuss this with his optometrist for a specific recommendation based on his specific condition and circumstances. We always recommend seeing your doctor since each circumstance is unique!

I don't think that doing a lot of things well is a problem or weakness. It is a strength. It also diversifies your offerings and caters to the needs of a variety of patients. It is better to follow your passions that allow you to earn a fabulous living than vice versa. Don't let FOMO change your course. Think with your heart and do what drives you. There are many specialty practices that only do one thing well and stink at everything else. That means you will be turning away a lot of business. It may be time to have additional ODs who specialize in different areas you do not like in your practice OR set up referral reciprocity with some colleagues who have a passion for what they do that you don't, like VT or LV and they can refer to you for sclerals and myopia control. Warning: It may take 2000 hours of doing something new before you are an expert. Steep learning curves are associated with Specialties and that why the barriers to entry are high. Developing a specialty and not being a dabbler is a journey. Just my opinion after almost 45 years of being on that wholesome, and sometimes humbling journey, FWIW.
