Casual Shenanigans started as an idea for a podcast about DayZ and Battlefield in December 2012. Over the years, our interests have expanded and so has the podcast. Our focus is on our love of gaming on both PC and consoles, PC hardware, and whatever else we feel like talking about at the time. We like to have fun when we chat, are often irreverent, are all good friends offline, and love the interaction we have with our listeners.
Casual Shenanigans hosts its podcast live on Thursday evenings at 8pm EST. We try to offer a variety of content and community gaming events. We record and stream our podcast as well as occasionally host Arma 3, Minecraft, and other games on the Potato Masher; our $350 PC built to compete with the PS4 for the rest of the console’s life cycle.
Watch our podcast live and join us in chat! You can also join us in Teamspeak when we do community games and events. To stay up to date, follow us on Twitter.

For some reason this came up in ny recommended vids while i was editing, its crazy to think this was 6 almost 7 years ago. We're right on the verge of episode 250 and Joel is here making a prediction that the podcast if it reaches 250, 300 episodes etc. won't be about just gaming anymore and will probably be just the Casual Shenanigans Podcast, it kind of became that after the podcast came back in more recent episodes haha.
How did I miss this? Thank you for taking the extra effort of making this podcast still happen, this is literally the only one I listen to and have listened to for almost 10 years now. I know only a handful of people still listen to it but from me personally, I can't tell you how much this means to me, this podcast feels like home to me. From the love for games we all share, to my love of cars that Jeremiah also has, and listening to Joel talk about movies and filmmaking that I also love since I was little (hopefully I'll make my own Norman), to everyone just chilling and talking about life, thank you, you've been there for me through good and bad times. For the past few years I've been going through what seems to be the lowest point of my mental health so being able to for an hour and a half be able to go for a walk and disconnect from everything else going on feels like a superpower and you give that to me, words don't seem to make justice to it. I'll be here for as long as you feel like podcasting and when that eventually ends, I'll have hundreds of past other episodes to tune in to
Joel here. Thanks for sharing this comment. I to have gone through a rough spell past few months as well, I know the feeling quite well. Sorry to hear you have been going through some bad stuff. Praying you come through it on the other side much better! glad we got to make your day a little better if even for just a little bit of time!
@@BoundlessMP Thank you for the kind words Joel, godspeed! Wishing you all the best as well :)
The sudden end caught me by surprise while listening to you all at work, but I'd say thays a golden reason why I love this podcast, it's so very laid back and alwyas has been. Thanks for still going at it occasionally! I also feel the bodily pain, I have a currently going episode of tooth pain & sensitivity that even lingers post dental work. Wouldn't wish it on anyone else. Feel better everyone.
Found out DI2 is only on Xbox (console) Gamepass, figured they'd have it on PC as well, sorry for the false hope.
Best podcast on the internet
How did I miss this?
Can we get a link to joel's treasure hunt channel? I cant make out what he says the name is in the vid
FYI, @theultimatescavenger on UA-cam is the channel.
Heeey guys! Always super fun finding one of these on my suscribed feed.
26:54 A zombie mode? Hell yes! 2023 baby!
Been right there with you guys, not getting anywhere near as much games in as I want. The problem is I have a bunch of games I want to play that are older, while I'm excited for some upcoming games, non of them (besides STALKER 2) are getting it up quite like playing some rounds of Battlefield 1, playing some F1 21/23 co-op with Chris, trying to organize some GTFO with the gang or shepherding some of the CSG crew in a 4 hour session of DayZ. That's all stuff that does it for me all day. I will say though, Baldur's Gate 3 has been a huge hit for me, really surprised by how much I've been enjoying that game.
I feel very seen with the hotel bathroom discussion. I have absolutely handed my wife headphones and made her promise to not take them off until I was done cause the hotel didn't have a lobby bathroom
Wow that's pretty direct :-D
@@casualshenanigans poop anxiety is real
Cheers guys! Good to hear from Papa James again. Respect to Dave for rocking the classic merch, I’m still getting use out of my CSG coffee mug despite the wear and tear on the logo. Here’s hoping Starfield is decent!
Here's to hoping! Thanks for buying that mug years ago.
I'm glad someone else feels the same way about fortnite that I do. That was cathartic.
Its always nice to have a podcast from u guys
My hunger for CSG has been placated for a while. Thanks guys!
For me E3 being dead isn't surprising, though I just see E3 as a time of year now where all the studios and companies that would have been there are now just doing their own things at that time of year. I still look forward to it either way ton see what's getting announced. The fun thing with E3 recently for me was when we'd all be chatting on Discord as the announcements happen and joking about stuff getting announced, talking about the games that look cool or rubbish etc. I do remember as a kid though always being excited seeing E3 news in magazines or on VHS or the rare time pre-early 2000s you'd see some gaming stuff on TV for it. I'm with Jeremiah on the cost front of food, flavor being the most important and cost being least as long as it's good, but I will pay for the delivery if it means I don't have to go out for it. Though the places I really like are outside of the range of delivery so I have to plan it out usually. The one thing I do prefer with picking it up though is that it will be hot and not sat around either at the restaurant waiting to be delivered or sat in someone's car who has to make 5 other deliveries before they get to you, nothing is sadder than getting your pizza and it's luke warm after waiting a hour for it. With the delivery, I try to get contactless and some restaurants do that so I don't have to awkwardly wait for the guy to knock or something. But it annoys me when I have to answer the door for one of them. Just leave my pizza at the door and head out, you're a busy person! I didn't have Joel down as a Papa Johns guy, that he can consider them close friends, I think this is skewing my view on him some. Easily the worst of the big fast food pizza places in my opinion. The day of reckoning will come. Stay Tuned.
Similar sentiments about the potential loss of E3. I never really cared to watch it but there was something special about the couple weeks of the year dedicated to gaming. Cringe compilations aside, it's one of the last remnants of an era in which gaming wasn't mainstream and the dollar store wasn't selling gaming gear- there was a dirty, greasy, underground appeal to being a gamer/nerd that is just lost to time. On the topic of food delivery I have to agree that it's generally disgusting. I have never used a delivery service. However, pizza delivery is a sacred practice and the only valid exception to the rule. Having a 16 year old drop off my $20 pizza in his rusty Subaru is just part of the experience.
But do you let him know you're waiting right behind the door for him to walk up?
@@casualshenanigans I prefer the natural approach of letting him knock a couple times, don’t want to let them know I’m too excited.
Daves train-set was super dope, i was a huge fan
I still can't point out why I've always enjoyed this podcast but here I am. Fantastic as always guys. Also, in relation to Dave's most played steam games, I believe Hunt Showdown was my top game as well. It's the only game in my lifetime that breached the 1000 hour mark and it may very well hit 2000 at some point if they keep it alive. Definitely helps that it's my go-to game with my friends to kill a couple of hours after work.
Thanks for listening! We're glad you're here. I don't get the Hunt stuff to that level, but I'm happy for you and Dave - Jeremiah
I think you guys should take that Levi's colab, I want you all to be constantly mentioning every 10 minutes how your Levi's are just so comfortable, showing them off to the audience, Dave wearing a cap with the logo on, it'll be a good partnership. Also Dave, do you need someone to send you food? You sound like you're in trouble. Just click my link for my new food service Goodbye Rotten, the sponsor of today's comment. You can get all the sketchy food you could ever want, is it expired? Who cares! It's probably fine.
I mean I DO wear just Levis for jeans.... - Jeremiah
I'm hoping Payday 3 will be a little slower paced with better stealth gameplay and there's a better variety of objectives between stealth and loud heists. I also want the difficulty to be less about how many police they can fit on screen and for there to be just better AI for them to make them more difficult. I really hope that they do the classes / skills better to where you fill in gaps for each other on the team rather than 3 people being a tank and 1 med guy. Something in between Payday 1 and 2 I think would be a great balance. I'm just excited to see it coming to Unreal and not the diesel engine it's always used. I have a ton of thoughts on how the game should be after playing Payday 2 for nearly 1000 hours now haha. Never will forget though the couple of times you guys all played it.
I am finally catching up, didn't realize I was this far behind that I was reminded of my crushed flipper hand haha.
Definitely feeling some sympathy towards Joel’s gaming from the couch lifestyle. With hardware prices getting ridiculous and just a general lack of multiplayer games that interest me I use my desktop for gaming less and less. I’m really leaning towards letting my current setup expire and then just moving to a Steam Deck (here’s hoping for a revision in a couple years). Having a single TV with a couple consoles and a Deck hooked up would be great. All other work I do on my desktop can easily be done on a phone or laptop anyway
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hope the Looting Tree was kind to all CSG men and women this year!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
RDR2 and Ghosts of Tsushima are two games that I could not wait to get home and play. Both had great stories and characters. I don’t think that we have had games like that in a while. I hope StarField has that type of excitement to it.
How would you compare the story of Ghost of Tsushima to RDR2? Did I quit it too early? - Jeremiah
For me, both stories have a main character who starts one way and ends another. The character development in both games is amazing, IMO. On top of them both being open world games that look awesome.
The sound of compressed peaking while introducing Dave just made my morning, thank you. The audio still sounds pretty good btw!
Glad to hear it!
EVGA is so upset with NVIDIAs tomfoolery that they split ways and EVGA will no longer carry their products. The market is wild!
Great podcast! It would be cool to see a let's play of Manor Lords!
I just noticed that Dave has a video of Manor Lords on his channel!
Glad to see these videos pop up. What about NEPG? Any auto cross videos in the future?
Nothing planned in the near future, I've filmed a lot of videos (some for cars that have been sold) but work and freelance have been too busy to do a good job with editing them, so I've paused for now - Jeremiah
Dave should play stalker gamma while waiting for Stalker 2
Good video. For someone like me and companies pushing streaming games all I hear when it comes to the price is to just buy the actual console and game since I wouldn't get anywhere enough value for the price.
🫗 for Shane
I am now just seeing this now haha, I thanks for pouring one out haha.
Pouring one out for Shane and his hot nasty birthday celebration!
I am now just seeing this because I've been way behind, I appreciate the hot nasty birthday wishes!
Joel has made me realize how much more I hate the term "Vegetable Medley". I almost hate it as much as seeing the word "REAL" on so much food in the US. Also, RIP Skull and Bones, it had a good reveal and is now going down a path we can not follow.
Naturally Flavored!
@@SilkyNoah This too haha.
Always great to hear from Papa James!
Still waiting on my Steam Deck email, any day now. Honestly though, i think it's going to be great for booting up a racing game or some of the indie games I've got, been holding on to a few now for when I can get my own. I do want to push it though just to see what I can make it do. Also, in another timeline, Jeremiah created a Potato Deck/Switch Masher.
It would just be a cannibalized laptop that performed terribly. - Jeremiah
Hey, y'all. Always love the podcast! Just FYI, REFORGER was an annual exercise during the Cold War from the late 1960s through the early 90s. It simulated deploying NATO forces to West Germany. It stood for "REturn of FORces to GERmany". They were massive exercises.
That makes a lot of sense! Good to know it's not just a lame game name. - Jeremiah
What has me excited about the Steam Deck is the potential for it to become a desktop replacement. I’d love to see them release additional models with future generations that are slightly more powerful, even if it comes at the expense of portability. I’d happily buy a Steam Deck and treat it as a desktop replacement if the support continues and hardware options are expanded a bit. Something similar to the console they tried years ago. Thanks for the show guys! Stay well!
Oh Dave
Just so Dave is aware, home depot does sell chargers...
More people need to see this amazing video.
Appreciate the show as always, whenever, whoever, it's always great! Congrats to Joel and his wife on the baby! Congrats to Jeremiah on becoming an even bigger work daddy!
Thanks Noah! Thanks for listening all these years!
Just have fun and do the podcast when you can guys👍
I totally understand what Jeremiah is talking about with contacts, "not hooking." Sometimes contacts are a different shape when they are dailies so they don't sit right in my eye, so I usually designate some of the contacts I get as "spares" so if there is a day when one doesn't sit right I can replace it in the middle of the day.
That makes sense. Mine are fortunately the same for both eyes, so I can grab any of them as a spare. - Jeremiah
Just wanted to say that I've been listening to every podcast episode on Spotify, cos I wasn't able to attend the livestream for a while. When you guys were talking about BF2042, my blood was boiling, just because me (and probably Dave) been snooping around Twitter, Reddit, UA-cam, etc. and seeing what kind of shitshow it is right now. The community, the developers, it's just......non-stop drama
Missed the live podcast but wanted to say thanks to the others I did what Jeremiah did with Walmart plus and got a PS5. I did not really care for Days Gone on my old PS4 but decided to give it another try with the upgrade to PS5 and what Joel said about it and it is great.
Glad that worked for you!
I want a game that I can’t wait to get home and play and get lost in. Games like Skyrim, RDR2, and Ghost Of Tsushima. These games aren’t out there now and only come along once every few years.
As someone who hasn't played Ghost of Tsushima yet, that makes me more excited! - Jeremiah
Imagine Dave NOT remembering Joel's games he has made, not a true friend or fan.
Preooze
"Sup Tards?! Let's talk about games!" I'm really glad that you guys are back, please don't stress yourselves out about releasing content all the time. Adulting is hard and takes a lot of time, no one is going to fault you for having families and lives. This is just me but I would rather have an episode every month or two than not at all.
