Thank you for the reset. True novice diver here. After too many years, 2004 to 2020 of paying dive schools at holiday resorts for guided recreational dives, it was in 2020 Dominican Republic, Bahia Principe resort, Punta Cana whilst diving on the Astron wreck, that I finally obtained my open water PADI certification. - I dive because my world troubles stop. My mind stops over processing everything, it stops thinking; it reboots 'dum de dum dum ----> dunk!' when I dive. - I do not go deep, just enough to keep sunlight natural so I can see all of the natural colours around me. - I share my mistakes for those that may not know: Touching: 1st ever dive and I chose, unknowingly, to learn the hard & very painful way why you do not. I was stung. Black long spined sea urchin. Unless you know what you are reaching out to touch; don't. Following year I learnt a second very painful lesson why you keep a safe distance from coral beds. An eddie pushed me down onto coral and of all things, fire coral. I 100% confirm; it has that name and for a very good reason. - I am not a fan anymore of fanning the sea bed and taking feed with you to attract fish. I am not after several barracuda 'plus the ones you cannot see' and good sized ones being 4 to 5 feet in length showed up for the buffet; that was my cut off. It was a surreal and very real OK Corral moment as they encircled us. I started to hear drums and then realised it was just my heartbeat. As thankfully rare as barracuda attacks are; I was not going to test it.
