Let’s Talk Mental Health and the Intersection of Body Image, Society, Self-Worth & Adulthood
🚨NEW VIDEO ALERT🚨
So what exactly is body image? How do you define it? When does body image develop and what are the most important influences on body image? What about the media and social media and how they relate to body image? A question we cannot ignore today; to have a holistic conversation about mental health, we have to address the effects of social media / the media on our psyches and impact on body image. Thankfully we are in a time of change right now - where our notions of what body image is - is changing. There is clearly A LOT of work still to be done - a lot of growth needed in our society - in the way we look at people’s bodies and in the way that affects how people internalize their self-worth. But the conversation has started, and we must continue it. ♥️♥️♥️ #OctoberIsMentalHealthAwarenessMonth
In the last pre-recorded session (while our Director of Livestream Series’ Iulia Nandrea is still away), we welcome the one and only Dr. Charlotte Markey. Charlotte is a Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Health Sciences Department at Rutgers University, Camden. She is a world-leading expert in body image research, having studied body image and eating behavior for over twenty-five years. Through all her roles as a scientist, teacher, writer, and parent she is passionate about understanding what makes us feel good about our bodies and helping others to develop a healthy body image. Charlotte is an inspiring writer and has written several books, one of which just came out a couple months ago - Adultish👏👏👏
Iulia and Charlotte discuss mental health and the intersection of body image, society, self-worth and adulthood. They also chat about her new book and our love of what she says about it: that it’s not just a body image book, but a health book - mental and physical - for teens and young adults. The overarching question Charlotte poses really resonated with Iulia during their conversation: Do any of us really feel ready for adulthood when we are technically adults?🤯🤔🙂
This video will live on our UA-cam channel as of Tuesday, October 15th and you can check out the entire conversation between Iulia and Charlotte anytime. Make sure you subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss out on upcoming content, and you can peruse previous sessions and a ton of educational content on there as well. And don’t be shy to leave any questions or comments in the comments sections on any of our social media platforms - we will address them and continue the conversation! 🙌🙌

Accessibility. This is a vital word in the mental health space. We are in a time of change right now and our notion of what treatment is certainly looks different, even from a few years ago. The very design of treatment is still very western based; and what therapy and intervention look like as well. But…those theories are changing; these methods are changing…and that’s a very good thing. The w...

Hello Sushma Srinivasan, How often are you making sales from your course on Udemy? And if you don't mind I also have some more questions to ask based on your insight on making money from the course. Thank you!

Love mental health book club idea!
That is horrible!!! As a queer teen myself, i cant imagine what she had to go through 😢😢❤❤
It's absolutely heartbreaking, and unimaginable.
This is so awful! Im so sorry this world is still so evil where our babies arent safe. My heart goes out to her family. No one should have to bury their baby. 💙
We could not agree more!

What a great opportunity for young people!

Great opportunity!! Focusing on mental health really helped me in business school as an undergrad. 🌸
Thanks to "Mind Blossoms" for sharing the real experiences, How long does it take to complete this book if we read 2 hours per day on an average? Are it will hook us to read and complete it within a short period!!
It really depends on how fast you read! The book is ~350 pages long, so if you can finish ~50 pages in 2 hrs (which is definitely feasible!), it will take you 7 days. We bet there are sections of the book you will be super hooked on. As you could hear in the conversation, Sushma loved the last part (paths to recovery), whereas Pernille was really hooked at the beginning as the book dove into the history and complexities of mental illness diagnoses. We hope you'll enjoy it and we'd love to hear what you think of it!
Walk in to any commercial gym and 99.9% of the people there are in no way, shape, or form in danger of overtraining. The majority of people are.not training hard enough as is evident by the fact that they go 5 days a week and see no progress.

Yes its there so you don't kill the baby. But it can overblow into psychosis.
Think ablut what we feel is the problem stop thinking about feeling and just deal with feeling
hi!❤️ the full discussion explains that younger people may struggle with being mindful of the media they consume and essentially harming themselves with overconsumption of media that reinforces negative feelings! so no, it’d be negative to stop thinking about the feeling, but instead it is suggested to not consume too much media that self harms while also taking time to reflect on why it may make oneself feel that way. hope this helps!
This is exactly what I want to know when I am trying to support friends with eating disorders. The emotional facts, and the framing, are so helpful!!
Nice. I try to incorporate deep breathing into my morning routine with mindfulness lessons from the book 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels.
