Well from just watching video of the control panel: a1up is still sinking their buttons into the acrylic. 👎 Levers are way too short, because they chose japanese levers with mdf, and without bothering to get longer shafts. A true circle gate would at least bring it closer to Happ feel, but I can't help wonder why a nostalgia product doesn't shoot for US/euro-style controls.

Damn!!! I can relate to everything you said here. I feel like many of the things you said are exactly the same in my life. I’ve thought about gaming quite a bit, same as you mentioned. I came to a similar conclusion, but I always worried I was justifying it for myself. You helped me realize that my thought process is not some justification for what I want. Thanks for the video 😊

I am 35, just had a kid, and I am working on a PhD. I make time for gaming pretty much every day because it brings me joy. We must always balance our lives. There were times when I would get home from work and just game 'til midnight or my wife called me to hang out. I obviously needed to make time for other things. But gaming is like a film, a novel, or an art show. It is a little aesthetic wonder that I want to pass down to my son.

Being 40 playing video games is great. First of all we grew up on this! It’s not like we’re in a mid life crisis because you’re gaming. For two we can afford to pay for all the things teenagers complain about having to pay for. 3, games aren’t really for kids anymore outside of Nintendo Switch. 4, the people making the games, the exec’s, the head of these gaming corporations are in they’re 40’s and up! As a 40 year old man myself I love gaming! I’m never gonna stop like said when I was kid. There interactive movies and rather play than watch! Happy gaming brother.

Hey!!!! I'm 44 started really playing Tekken the first day Tekken 3 arrived at my mall Arcade.. I was in Highschool and had a Cafe/coffee shop job across from the arcade. My GF had a job at the KB toys down the way.... we used to play the PS1 Tekken2 Demo on our breaks together we had so much fun playing Tekken 3 together as well.... such simpler times.

I’m also turning 40 but i’ve figured out video games are completely the coolest thing since i was 7yo. Only people born before 1945 can think video games aren’t cool because they are too old to get it. In reality games have made my career in music because through games i’ve learned to challenge myself and reach high levels while doing something i really love, and without games i might have not had the confidence to really reach the heights i have reached now. When i die my last thoughts will like be if i’ve played enough of my favorite games and if i’ve discovered enough classics (after i’ve thought about my family)

What a time to be alive looking back 11yo sf2 mk2 tekken on ps1.The previous generation before only got a slight experience earlier but still games only truly exploded early 90s. We literally are the first generation to this age to have gaming history our entire lives. Cheers to more to come. 🎉

I'm a man turning 41 next month. I already put in almost 20 yrs of my life establishing my career. I got one of the big professional degrees that is just god awful difficult to get. I'm squatting and deadlifting over 200 lbs in the gym and I'm on a bulk to put some lean muscle mass right now after having put in several years leaning down first. (The eating suck! I much rather diet to lose weight). I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which is god awful difficult to learn while trying not to get hurt. That's 6 days of fitness activity during the week. I have a house which I'm paying down the lessen the mortgage. I've traveled, surfed in oceans, and consistently read novels and even trying classic poetry right now. I GAME! I've gamed since the NES days. But my focus on what I play changed. I've played most triple A titles over the years. Mass Effect 3 and Witcher 3 are my greatest "story" games of all time. I hired a COD coach to get better at Ground War and managed to get multiple 50-60 kill and 10 death games calling in tons of gunships. My focus is now on Tekken 8. I don't even want to play FF7 Rebirth that much cuz these story based games don't even present a challenge. I beat the OG in 1997 bunch of times. The Remake had some pacing issues. We got all these people "no lifing" these games but they don't need much skills. I had to learn a ton of skills during Tekken 7 picking up Jin and only went as far as Teal Ranks. I'm struggling right now in Tekken 8 playing as Jin and Devil Jin. All the Kings and Victors are nightmares. But I'm here to load punishment guides to become a great Mishima player. A also play Vergil on Devil May Cry 5. You see my taste in edgy male anti heroes is universal. And DMC at the highest difficulty is a nightmare game to play. But you look and feel so cool when you kill the whole room. Gaming is fine. As an older guy, if you take care of everything else like fitness, finance, mental health, relationships, and other constructive hobbies then go at it. I wouldn't recommend staying up so late to play these cuz the body is weaker at older age. But that's just my standard. And if a person has the balls to try getting good at a fighting game, that's whole different category altogether. This is more academic than fun at times. It's not just for fun. It's a commitment. It's wanting to achieve that "expression" of becoming THAT GUY.

I'm late to post a comment in here. I'm kind of in the same boat, I need to be mentally stimulated to decompress after whatever I do, I also enjoy fighting games the most out the rest of genres, age doesn't matter in videogames, its the 20, 30, 40 year old's that are buying the games anyway. so the stigma that is around the hobby is just because that's how consoles were marketed during their first released, as toys for children. since I like videogames a lot, I started learning how to make them, and went down the rabbit hole THAT is, started to learn woodworking to make my own hitbox (fightstick but only buttons). Even my dad used to play videogames and was the one that started me on them when I was 6 with the N64 with super Mario 64. your age is irrelevant and will continue to be, as long as you enjoy the hobby of your choosing.

What's up. Great video. 42 years old over here. Been playing fighting games my whole life. Ever since Street Fighter 2. They had it at the corner store across the street from my house and I was hooked lol Playing Tekken 8 on PS5 now. I feel the same way you do too or use to. It doesn't really bother me anymore. I have a good job. Work from home doing Tech Support. Makes it easier to play games on my downtime during work too. I'm healthy. Try to workout every day. I'm like you too. I don't really like watching TV too much either. I enjoy playing video games. I play them w/ my son too. It use to bother me too what people thought but not anymore. I'm doing good w/ my job, healthy, take care of what needs to be done around the house too. My wife doesn't really care about the gaming either. She's addicted to being on her phone all day. So she can't really say too much lol i love video games. It kept me out of trouble when I was younger i think. Couldn't wait to go home and play. Anyways, great video. Your not alone lol

Hey man there have been plenty of studies that show videos games can help to support brain health specifically neuroplasticity. My mother has epilepsy a neurological disorder which causes her to have seizures. It's sad but her cognitive functions have taken a massive hit from years of chronic seizures. It has also had a negative effect on her memory and her neurologist recommended video games to help her with memorization and problem solving. Look up some of studies when you have free time, sure videos games are a catharsis and there's a possibility to overindulge. But they also have legitimized practical uses I think since we both grew up in the 80s and 90s it's very easy to remember the stigma associated with gamers during that time. I really hope more people read this comment and I also hope that it helps; Lastly happy almost birthday Mattatsu and keep gaming!

It really depends on the game, and the peripheral you use to play the game, TBH. If a grown man in his 40s plays Forza or Gran Turismo, nobody would bat an eye if you play it with a Logitech G racing wheel, or Microsoft flight simulator with a flight stick and throttle. If anything, people are more interested, and start asking questions about it. Part of the issue is how normies view videogames. Sims are considered "serious games," and anything that requires a regular gamepad is considered a waste of time. Fighting games and Madden are bottom-tier when it comes to respect in the normie gaming scene, and sims/VR are among the most prestigious, in which only seasoned middle-class adults play. In other words: normies have no idea what they're talking about.

Only rutted legit boomers think it's wrong to play games at X age. Some of the biggest pros, especially in Tekken, are close to/in their 40s. Tons and tons of people just drink beer and/or get high while watching the first random shows they see on TV or the most popular stuff on random streaming services. Video games are some of the best form of hobbies because it's hand crafted material for the exploration and interaction of humanity. Good single player games have well crafted stories, are immersive, extremely fun in a quirky way or all of the above. Multiplayer games, especially fighting games, are sometimes more raw human connection than even the most deep conversations because they transcend language and culture barriers. Every hobby and niche interest in the history of humanity has had it's share of ignorant critics but countless ones have existed for hundreds if not thousands of years, far outliving the petty words flung at them.

  • @loganpinzon4539

I've got to say To me this sounds like ur problem is exactly the stigma that exists within the relationships that you have. Honestly it's the same for me, I don't really know anybody that play games and so I play them in "secret". The whole stigma to me either way creates this feeling of evaluating each other's hobbies. You brought up the example of chess or reading which would be considered "noble" hobbies. And ofcourse we value ourselves to a certain extent through others perception of ourselves, so with videogames we tend to feel less great about ourselves because that's how people tend to evaluate videogaming. In these social circles where videogaming isn't common or at all explored, its value is lost. You pose the same question of "am I wasting my time", I think that that also comes down to the idea of being productive. So my idea of all this is that it comes down to what and who your social circle is. To those who don't have many friends that game or at all, we constantly feel the need to justify our hobby, because it's not valued "important" or "noble" in our social circle and so we feel less important. I think the only thing we can do about this feeling is not to keep justifying why we play or how it is a "noble" hobby, because it just isn't in their eyes. We have to accept that and love this part of ourselves. Everybody has niches that are outside of the conventional ways of being if you dig far enough. That or build a social circle around gaming I guess 🤔

You are the epitome of a gamer. That said always remember there are gamers in there 60s and higher. Oh yeah don't know why I forgot to mention this. Look at DarksydePhil. Streams Video games yells at his chat plays games poorly and E-Begs. He's been doing it for 15 years and his source of income is youtube and no lie Legitimately Mentally Ill individuals he lies to so they can give him money. The rabbit hole is CRAZY but my point is you came out ahead and are still going. Having a managerial position is a great but on the other hand it is a challenging job. If video games could keep your sanity and confidence in check, there's literally nothing wrong with that. Go crazy! Me myself are stressfull at my own job too but I am still playing Yu-Gi-Oh where ordinary people perceive it as a "children's card game". If it makes you feel better, then playing video games at your free time makes perfect sense.
