Mooer Tender Octaver | A Budget EHX POG?
In this video, I review the Mooer Tender Octaver.
I use a Les Paul into a Simplifer pedal modeling a Fender Deluxe Reverb.
I also use a Digitech Polara for a room sound and put the Mooer through a MXR Super Badass Fuzz for some THICK Tones.
All sounds have zero processing including EQ and compression!

In this video, we discuss why you would break in a speaker or if you even need to at all. A guitar speaker is used to demonstrate the tonal difference starting at 5:00, but this concept applies to bass speakers, home stereos, car speakers or any other speaker. We also discuss 3 Tips to improve the speaker break in process and what methods can be used. More comparisons of speakers in this cab ca...

Nice Dano! I have the same one.
I find many contradictions. You say you don't like the feel of e cymbals, but you opt for the worst triggers. The false hits, the double hits, the almost impossible possibility of playing ghost notes. That's annoying. Another aspect is that low volume cymbals, even if they are Zildjan, sound horrible. That's also very annoying. You say you want to get as close as possible to an acoustic kit, but you buy the most basic module! It was worth every penny if you bought the Edrum-in midi interface. Anyway... we learn from our mistakes.
I prioritized feel over sound, so the cymbal sound and cheap module does not annoy me. But I agree that false hits can be a problem. I have found low volume cymbals that sound good and plan to make more updates too, I will release a an update video in the future so stay tuned! No mistakes, just improvements:)
I use the PF-800. It does make a difference Live. Especially if u play Death Metal. Louder is better in certain types of Music. 🥷 200 doesn't hit the same as 350 no matter what ya mouth says and 350 doesn't hit like a 500 and a 500 doesn't hit live like a 800 on Bass. I know cause I've used all 3 many Times. The 800 gets much louder. 🤟
Makes sense! For my 3 piece band it definitely cuts through, but I can see it not being enough in a band with two half stacks, especially for metal. 800 watts will definitely let you feel the bass!
@DisorderlySoundStudios Indeed. I mean... each Artist has a way they prefer so to each his own but for me, as a Bassist in Metal over the years, I been drowned out by double, powerful, half staccs many Times to where nobody could hear me. I eventually came to the conclusion in a Band setting, I'd rather have too much Power and dial it down as needed than not have enough. One of many things I Love 💙 about #Ampeg is they offer many different versions to us Artists so we can find what's right for our current Gig or session. If I wanna go ultra light, like for a plane, I can just take Brooklyn and me Ampeg SGT-DI. If I got a Metal Gig or a incredibly loud Band practice, I got me PF-800 which I call SoFi. She's the best Amp I've ever owned. She's expensive tho'. If I was in a situation in which I couldn't afford her, I'd use gear like the SGT-DI until I could. Ampeg does make some terrific smaller practice Amps as well and I'd have no problem using those. Ampeg has awesome Tones no matter the size of the Amp imo. Thanks for the response 🤟
My friend, to get the full beauty of the Blues Jr, you have to crank the master volume all the way to 11 or 12, then preamp volume between 4-8 for taste. Yes, it's LOUD, so put your attenuator on it. This is how you will get those beautiful, full, warm, round tones you never knew were there.
And meant to say, great comparison video BTW
Totally agree about the Master! For preamp I prefer to keep it under 5 bc I still don't love the overdrive, Thank you for your input my friend!
"it's not smokeable" :(
great review! thank you!
I did the same thing as well, converted to a electric set
I just got the laney irt 212 with 12"80w HH speakers and I love it. I opened the back and it sounds great, but I have a Cele Greenback 25w and I want to throw it in there . All 3 speakers are 16ohms but what about the wattage ?
When you add speaker wattage, you take the lowest wattage speaker and multiple it by the number of speakers. So if you are keeping it a 212, it would be 25w x 2 = 50w cabinet. So you would be making a 160w cab into a 50w cab. Not sure what amp head your using but as long as its not over 50 watts than you will not be overworking the speakers. Since all speakers are 16ohms, as long as you wire it the same, the cab will still be the same ohms. Greenback speakers sound amazing to my ears and it will be a great upgrade in my opinion!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios Thanks for your reply!
Sure seems to move nice mids forward
This was a great video! I’ve seen people suggest breaking in speakers by just letting the amp feedback. Do you know how that method would compare to your method?
Thank you! I would not recommend having your amp feedback for the many hours it would take to break-in a speaker (would be hard to keep constant). Additionally, the high frequency content of feedback would not move the speaker as much. Hope that helps!
First half of vid sounds better to my ears. Nice mids
Good video 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
This is a great video! I haven’t seen many people including the tips to crank the bass and mids or providing side-by-side comparisons of the speakers before and after break in. The spectral analyzer was also a nice touch. Well done! I’d like to talk to you about sending some product for use in your reviews. If you’re open to it, what’s the best way to get in touch?
so, if i want to bypass simplifier and use a real tube amp, I'll just use one instrument cable and connect the L output to my real tube amp input after enabling the THRU knob . And if i want to use it as a drive pedal or a preamp i will use the R output and enable the SUM mono knob. Right? Also what happens if i just connect either of L/R output to amp input without enabling any knob. No sound?
For your first question: Yes that is exactly what you would do, then you could use the XLR out as a DI while still playing through a real amp. Second question: Honestly not sure if what you described will work but it makes sense to me. You could also go out the preamp "Send" into the the front of your amp to use it as a drive/preamp pedal. (This will bypass the cab sim which is what you would want). Last question: You would still get sound but the Cab Sim would be in your signal and it would sound undesirable. (Although tone is subjective so you might like it). If by "without enabling any knob" you mean that you set every knob to zero including the volume, than yes, no sound.
I liked the single laney best as a solo guitar sound. The next question is which would sound better in a mix, its a rabbit hole :)
I would love to see a comparison between the SVT Micro VR and the RB210.
wayy outta tune
Very true lol, but I was already to far in before I noticed
Such a great pedal. Why it was discontinued boggles my mind. They have a newer but the pedal is a lot bigger. The nova was perfect.
Totally agree! I do think the sound lacks a little character, but the versatility makes up for it and if I were to only have one delay- this would be it. (which is why it is currently my only delay lol)
I just bought a spare one used just in case
Sound samples at 6:51
Thank you so much, this is awesome.
Longview riff is class.
Hola, amigo!
I’m not sure what you mean, the translations are making this confusing. Could you possibly give the names of the equipment you’re using?
Truly Awesome!!!
I always figured the breaking in idea was more you getting used to the way the speakers sound. There is a big change when switching from different kinds of speakers, or in my case when mixing, switching headphones or switching to speakers. If you practiced or mixed on the new speakers you'd get more comfortable with them and feel like they've been "Broken in" when you're just used to that sound. Seems like just another excuse for guitarists to explain why their recordings sound bad. When a little EQ could make up the difference is it really that big of a deal? Maybe focus on your performance and mic position before you worry about the subtle things.
I just run full-range music through mine but I down always need to. Some speakers sound great when new.
What say you about people who use solvents on the rubber surrounds to help with break in?
Bass frequencies move more slowly. You're referring to excursion, the distance the cone moves.
That is correct, thank you!
I've noticed in humid environments speakers don't sound their best at first, but after about an hour the heat from the tubes dries out the speakers in my old tube combos, then the speakers/amp sound like they should. There is likely some other reasons for the better sound, but the speaker being dried-out is important in my experience as a home noodle. What you say about bass frequencies is important too, get that surround moving to loosen it up. I'll hit an E chord (or whatever, big chords) with the volume off, and gradually turn up the volume to get the speaker moving. I do that with bar chords up and down the neck, along with cowboy chords in the first few frets. I've read dozens of techniques other people use. The first few days seem to loosen them up, then after maybe 100 hours they are likely even looser, many theories. I just go by my ears, and from that know humid air dampens speaker cones to the point I can hear the difference, and that after being gently heated by the tubes the cones work their best, vibrations flowing through them without water damping the fibers. Interesting subject, speakers are a bit of an obsession, and have accumulated many over the years, some haven't even been used yet. I find the old speakers with original cones sound best, I paid over $500 for a Celestion Vox silver bell with the legendary "pulsonic" cone. I see them as instruments themselves, since they are what transmit the vibrations, so paying $200-500 isn't outrageous to my mind. Cheers!
Its not break in its a acumulation of dust an moisture making the speaker heavier which gives it more low end and less high end
I don't think dust build up would effect this short term test but moisture could have, thanks for the info!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios it doesnt take long for dust to acumulate in an air conditioned room and the speaker is constantly pushing and pulling air and its a magnet so its also pulling particles towards it which are sticking to it cause of the moisture built up from the constant heating up and cooling down causing condensation. Its definetly a layer of your dead skin weighing it down
Waiting Room 👌
I was wondering if the alesis nitro module worked with ddrum red shot triggers. You answered that for me so thanks.
Glad I could help!
All triggers are piezo electric. whether it be roland, alesis, ddrum. The only ones different... only because of the polarity are the Yamahas. Of course they will work well.
@@FrancoArea51 of course they are all piezo but different size piezos have different output levels and don't always work well with cheap modules because they don't have as many settings.
SVT ❤
Fugazi's waiting room bass riff is a classic go to !
I didnt know justin timberlake played a muff
It’s not clear which amp, left or right, is the blues jr and which is the tweed deluxe
The tweed deluxe is the one covered in yellow tweed. The Blues Jr. is covered in bloody tolex. I think the Attenuator sounds better, which one did you like ?
The tweed is the tweed ....
Where's the stratocaster to compare the clean sounds?
SVT all the way !!!
"For $50 bucks, you too can suck the life out of your tone! Come get some!"
It is said in a few places that this is a tweaked version of the Dunlop Band Of Gypsys Fuzz Face (red Fuzz Face with white knobs). The Fuzz face turned into the Gypsy Fuzz and then the Gypsy Fuzz turned into this pedal, the Super Badass Variac Fuzz. Same pedal, different versions. All versions are essentially an Octavio fuzz with the upper octave removed from the sound. The Variac knob definitely puts this one is a class of its own for sure.
Honestly, the jr sounds better except for the reverb.
Huh? How's your hearing?
Interesting comparison but I don't agree with your conclusion about speaker breakup (with caveat about youtube compression making it hard to tell). To me it sounds like the extra Laney just added some fullness and smearing of sound in the 2x12 - otherwise it was very similar. The Jensen is a competely different speaker (which sounded boxy by comparison.) I have a Jensen neo speaker I love but according to their sales guy at NAMM guitar speakers are designed to break up at pretty much any volume up to the point of failure, which is not a desirable sound. Eminence also say speaker breakup is not directly related to power rating, but cone design and construction.
Thank you for your input! Listening back, I still hear more grit from the 1x12 but I think your theory makes sense for why I would be hearing that. Could also be how the transformer is working with the different speaker loads (16ohm vs 8ohms) but not sure. Boxy is good way to describe it in comparison. I am hoping the cab will sound fuller once I pair the Jenson with the right speaker.
For me I still like the 1x12 cab. I am using a Orange Dual terror 30watts on a 1x12 75 watts 8ohms Peavey Shefield model 1230 speaker. It's a space saver and lighter ko carry when I have a gig.,Thanks for this Topic.
Great job young man ! I’ve had them both. Jr got sent packing but Mr Deluxe has had a happy home for a long time 🎉
Thanks! Good choice!
Waiting room noice
This video is hidden gem for beginners who want to create a pedalboard. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Same, I saw pressure to buy the expensive ones. But I'm just a bedroom player and I don't turn on more than 2 pedals at once.
Man! This is the only demo video that does It really well and show the functions and parameters how It should be! So thank you! Peace from Buenos Aires!
Appreciate the support!
i have one of the porta flex 800 amps and it is amazing. from this video, I think you should go with the porta flax, the break up at higher volumes is great
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate the recommendation!
Sounds cool
This exactly what I need to do for my Tama kit for my in home studio... Where do I get the heads and triggers?
I can't find a dealer that sells the Tama Mesh anymore but this is what I am using: www.tama.com/usa/products/detail/mesh_head.html The triggers are still available a lot of places, here is a link: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DDRSKit--ddrum-red-shot-trigger-kit Hope these help your setup!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios Thank you very much 😊
The Tweed ! Not saying the Jr isn't good it just don't have that nice midrange! Tweed is punchier and just better mids when cranked!
Marvellous! What an amazing young man! Great work! I got the Tweed!
