I remeber doing this level on an emulator and having to tab back and forth between the level and a play through to figure that one out

Cleared this game back in the day when I was a kid NGL nfi how i worked out this level but i remember how to do it even now.

Super Mario land come out in 1989 Mario three come out in 1988 in Japan but it didn’t come out in America until 1990 and Europe in 1991

The cloud you saw before entering the pyramid at the end of 6-3 is reachable, But you approached it from the wrong direction. At the start of the level, after climbing the ladder, its possible to go under the wall to the left. There, you'll find a door that takes you to the clouds right of the pyramid.

Collecting enough cherries will make a Starman appear. Likewise, a heart will appear after killing enough enemies. Your intuition that Mario represents Normal difficulty is correct and is true for most (possibly all) games. Mario has average stats. Luigi can jump higher, but is harder to control. Toad is faster and stronger, but can't jump well. The Princess can float.

Oh I'm here for it man. Love a 2d platformer. Looking back this game controls really bad but at the time it was revolutionary. I'd say mario world probably controls better than most of the modern Mario's except maybe wonder. The controls on that feel pretty tight honestly. There are actually secret continues in the game. If you press a + start on the game over screen you go back to the start of the world. I literally only found this out last year though. Would have been useful as a kid

The first "Bowser" you encountered in 8-4 and 9-3 is actually Bowser's twin brother. I suspect that he's the mastermind behind this game's difficulty. There are actually two more games in the style of Super Mario Bros., and the Lost Levels: VS. Super Mario Bros. and All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros. Both games use a mixture of levels from the original game and the Lost Levels albeit with some alterations. (VS. Super Mario Bros. actually predates the Lost Levels). Also, the Famicom Disk System port of Super Mario Bros. has an alternate "Minus World" route that allows you to beat the game without ever fighting Bowser. Super Mario Bros. 2 let's you choose between four different characters. Each character has different physics and you can switch characters between stages. So, I suggest you try all four. (The Princess is the easiest to play as and Luigi is the hardest).

"Fun" Fact: This game has 4 secret worlds that can only be unlocked by beating the entire game EIGHT TIMES. (Except in the Super Mario All-Stars version, where you only need to beat the game once).
