How I use gouache to paint this classic Volkswagen Bus with simple, quick and easy explanation.
Sometimes I will dive deep into a subject like my previous 2 part video and sometimes I can give you a quick explanation on how I do things. I believe there is value in both ways. If you subscribe you will get to know what I mean. This iconic bus was parked in a parking lot of a Rugby pitch that I attended. My favorite team won! I just had to paint it! I use gouache. I will link which I used in the comments. For fine details I finished it with a Micron pen (also linked below) Have an awesome day. Enjoy and please share, subscribe, like etc... Cheers!

Part 2 Sketching a classic car with a cheap ballpoint pen

Oh boy I really give my opinion on a host of things especially colleges and art schools. Let's dig into how and why we choose what we want to draw. Philosophy! Ayn Rand's "Sense of Life", Bruce Springsteen and much more. It's a great big conversation. Let's talk
Sketching a classic car with a cheap Ballpoint pen Part 1

I talk Tarantino, Batman, working at an architectural firm and much much more in this long ranging talk where I show, in two parts, from beginning to end how I sketch with one of my favorite pens: the cheap Bic pen! I get philosophical, opinionated, maybe a little cranky at times (LOL)Come on let's have a conversation. Join me on the second part where I share what I really think about colleges ...
Why and how I use a continuous line to draw. Full video in real time.

I thought that I will do a real time drawing of this cool image. You will hear my take on how and why I choose my subject. This one is chockfull of very opinionated commentary and personal meanderings on why I do what I do. Stories of how I learned 3 stages of creativity, how I learned to be comfortable with making mistakes, even a story on why it took me three years to do one painting! Very pe...

Can ink get old? Drawing a one line drawing.

I was gifted an old Rapidograph pen and ink set many years ago and totally forgot that I had it. The other day in a rare deep cleaning and organizing of my accumulated and vast art supplies I found it! I just didn't know if the ink was usable. So I tried it out! Here is the video on that. The subject matter in the drawing is also something near and dear to the beginning of my career. I began by...
Drawing a cluttered late night workspace with one line

There was something very powerful about this image I came across. It had a sort of moody, "late night" and quiet feeling. I wanted to capture that as best I could. So, I drew it late at night, quiet and yep I am often moody. In fact I have seriously considered changing the name of my channel to "Grumpy professor" What do you think? I might rant too much! LOL. Anyhow, this is continuing on with ...

Portrait Drawing with Pencil

I asked my middle school students who I should draw. "Jackie Robinson!" one blurted out. "Yes!, I'll do it"! I said. And so we looked up images and here is the video of how I drew this portrait. I begin, as almost always in this way of working, with approximately placing the large shapes. Always going from "General to specific" emphasizing the process of being patient in developing the accuracy...

I definitely agree with a lot of the points you made. I think what makes art so captivating is the balance/contrast between order and chaos-it’s present in every choice an artist makes. It was certainly interesting to see the way you approached capturing the essence of the image. Great work!
Thanks Lex!

How long did it take without the fast-forward?
Hey thanks. Do you draw as well? It took 1h and 36 minutes
I'm curious, why do you start with an orange background? Amazing piece by the way!
Hey! Thanks for asking! Orange (or really any other midvalue (not too dark or too light) color helps in knowing how dark or light of a color I should put down. You will know right away if the value of the color you put down is closer to what you see. It is a great way to speed up the painting process as opposed to using a white background (though there is nothing wrong with that too but it takes longer to see the values) I'll make a video on this soon. Thanks again!
Love the captions! So cool ❤
Thanks!
