Safe & Warm - Tina Mason-Volk's Tribute
Dear Friends ... It breaks my heart to have to tell you this, but my dear wife Tina passed away Monday, June 21, 2021 at 6:04pm. My son Brian and I composed this tribute video to honor the memory of this wonderful woman and my lifetime partner for over 55 years. Please enjoy her singing a song that I wrote called "Safe and Warm." It certainly describes our beautiful partnership.
(Please feel free to share this and spread the word about her life and her amazing talent.) Thank you for your condolences and your beautiful words of comfort... God bless... Phil "Fang" Volk

I enjoyed chatting with Mike for a couple of hours one evening when he owned the Sporthaven nightclub in Harbor which was just across the Chetco river from Brookings, Oregon in 1979...Super nice guy. He told me a lot of stories with Paul Revere and the Raiders. I was playing music up the street but the rock band from my town was playing at the Sporthaven so they introduced me to Mike.

I used to watch them on “Where the Action is” whenever I could, and I had all of their albums. I loved the music, the constant energy and the levity that they always displayed. I really enjoyed this video! Ultimately, the Raiders deserve more respect. Dick Clark was a gem as well!

No, they didn't. Wireless technology was years away. Groups performed on TV by lip synching and/or "pretend" instrument play due to the problems of matching up live sounds to video. They faked it.

Everytime since this popular song came out, I have dedicated it to a gal in my freshman year of high school (L.C.H.S.) in Indianapolis...I'll call her by initials: G.F. Why? Cause about a month after our only date (Valentine's Formal Dance at the downtown famous Scottish Rite building) she "dumped me" for another guy at the school...a junior. So, when Mark Lindsay repeats at near the finale of the tune, a word he seems to be saying is : Gayle, I've been Up, Down, and all around!" (Opps! I mentioned her first name) And another thing - When I heard the song on the radio for the first time, I was with my parents, car shopping with them for a car replacement for Dad. Couldn't wait to get home and hear that song again on a radio station! The Raiders have always been one of my all-time favorites in rock bands, along with Three Dog Night and The Doors.

Wow. I had no idea Fang was still performing all these years! I've been attending all the Paul Revere and Raiders concerts I could find since about 1990 (places like Santa Cruz beach, Las Vegas, even Turlock California cattle fair!") Of course, Fang left the Raiders in the late 1960s, but he can STILL play all the good old music from the 1960s! To my big surprise, I found Phil Volk at a ABBA tribute show here in Las Vegas in April 2023!. Had a quick chat about our mutual history at Columbia Records studios (Hollywood) working for Terry Melcher (producer, Doris Day's son), back in the 1960s! Would love to find him again! He said he now lives here in Las Vegas!
