Evening Meditation
#Ambient #Chill #Meditation #Gongs #Evening #Soundbath #improvisation #Percussion #Eventide #DarkAmbient #AmbientPercussion #Drone
A slow melody on the edge of night on the gongs with bowing accompaniment.
My apologies for the two gaps in the video. My Gopro started going berserk and glitching for ten seconds at a time. I tried doing several more takes of this melody, but the glitches kept getting worse and worse. So I liked the vibe of this take the best and the music isn't affected by the drops. I hope you like it too.
Now I need to find a new camera. Not sure if I will return to Gopro.
EQ and Eventide Blackhole reverb added in mastering.

      @@ShaneMorrisMusic Thank you for the quick response! I don't understand how the volume knobs work when they are only connected to the piezos without any amplification happening? Sorry to bother you, I am looking for a way to build my own noise box and yours is a huge inspiration! I guess it's the most beautiful Noise box i've seen so far on UA-cam :)

    • @ShaneMorrisMusic

      @@fenster_fallbeil No bother at all. Thank you for the kind words! The aesthetics of the instrument was important to me. I suppose the volume knobs are more like potentiometers, lowering or increasing the signal. I bought them pre-made with the piezos. However, since finishing the instrument and spending time playing it, I don't really use the volume knobs. If I was to do it over again, I would exclude the volume knobs. Since efx are a big part of the instrument as well, Its just easier to control the volume with the efx thru the mixer, for me anyway. Hope that helps. Good luck on your instrument and feel free to ask any questions. Cheers!

    Cassette tapes play at 1 7/8 inches per second. Therefore, if you’re still resolutely non-metric (ie, you live in the US), you will need exactly 18.75 inches of tape. Tbh you’d be far better off fitting your tape loop to the cassette rather than trying to make an arbitrary length work…

    Dunno if you're still reading comments here, but your build ist awesome and I would like to make something in this style myself. What wood did you used? Are there woods which are no go's? Currently I just have a electroacoustic box made out of aluminum

    • @ShaneMorrisMusic
      @ShaneMorrisMusic Рік тому

      Hello Desse! Wow cool that you made an EA box out of aluminum! How does that sound? I actually did not use any special kind of wood for my box. In fact I was told my wood choice would not be good. I used 3/4 inch wood that would normally be used for shelving from Lowe's. I think it was pine. I wouldn't call it particularly resonant at all. I already had this wood and I thought I would just make this box first as an experiment and see how it went. I gave it a nice dark stain which I was also advised not to do. People have said that a stain will reduce the resonance in the wood. Another reason I used this thicker wood was it is very easy to use 1/2 inch screws to attach all the instruments to the box, without having to add supports underneath taking extra time to do. So I basically did everything "wrong" according to most folks that build these kind of instruments. However, like an electric guitar, the pickups... or in this case... the dual piezo mics are where most of the sound is being heard. So, it is not a big deal if the wood is not very resonant. Much like the difference in an acoustic guitar and an electric. Resonant wood in a acoustic guitar is very important because that is where the sound comes from and out which a microphone picks up. But in an electric, most all of the sound is being picked up from the pickups. So I think the big difference here would be how you want to amplify or record your box. If its through piezos or pickups, I don't think the wood is making a huge difference. If it is for a microphone, then it would make all the difference for resonance. So also, I attached several springs on my box both for playing on and for spring reverb which is picked up nicely by the piezos, but wouldn't be so well with a mic. In fact, so much that I had to take the inner spring out because it was just too much reverb with the ones on the top. Hope this helps!

    • @dessemonsano3392
      @dessemonsano3392 Рік тому

      @@ShaneMorrisMusic Wow, thanks for the detailed answer! Then I can take care of the wood without worrying. My main concern was stability for the screws, so nothing jumps out or is damaging the wood. In fact, the aluminum box is sometimes too resonant for me, so it quickly leads to feedbacks. I wanted to build a box of wood just because of less resonance as a contrast to the aluminum one. In fact, this is also "only" an extremely modified / expanded Electrofaustus Blackfly. I plan to use this piezo from amazon in the wooden box - same as you did. By the way, I came to your videos because I was looking for e-Bow applications in electroacoustic boxes/springs - and I was not disappointed : )
