@@jdsofar with the mk 7 I'd go for the silver. I know they fixed all the issues with the silver version and don't know if they did with the blacks, plus the blacks have a lot more plastic parts than the silver.

@@Stereo_type1982 How would black have more plastic parts? Im pretty sure they re identical in terms of build quality. But where do you think there is more plastic on them?

@DjJugend I haven't seen them in person to know for sure but the review on the Just Technics channels says the top plinth/faceplate is plastic as are the start buttons, target light and power switch tower. Though I don't agree with everything he says and have seen differing accounts say different things. On the silvers they're a mix of aluminiums/steel/composites. I believe the plastic parts also runs through all the special editions as well. The black ones also had a dead zone on either end of the pitch (-8 and +8) effectively only giving you to +/-7% this was fixed on the silvers. Unsure if it was fixed on the blacks.

@Stereo_type1982 , firstly, you zero-balanced the tonearm with stylus protective cap in place. With this you will end up less than recommended tracking force. Secondly, balance your tonearm with actual record on place by zero-balancing the tonearm so the stylus would hover barely above the record surface. This will get you the most accurate result.

@@NiiOnLood Ya he should have balanced the tone arm without the stylus guard but in reality the difference is so minimal and these needles have a wide range of recommended tracking force. Usually 3-5g or 2-4 etc so the slight differences really won't matter. But I personally always use a scale to get the tracking force dead on because im a perfectionist

@@jdsofar, as I have a Technics SL-1200 too I'm confident I don't need the scale as Technics' counterweight is reportedly very accurate.

@@carlkamuti his name is Jonathan Hackett. Outside of an episode of taggart and a few films he's mostly a stage actor and has done a few audiobooks. He also does begbie in the non abridged audiobook of Porno. Wish he has done more as he's absolutely excellent here and in Porno.

@@Stereo_type1982 I'll be honest I do like Tam Dean Burn's narration: he's a good fit, his performance as Alec in The Acid House was for me the highlight of the film. But I don't know what they were thinking to only release a 3 hour book of Filth, it's probably Welsh's best novel alongside Trainspotting. Thank you for giving us the name though gadge.
