The full span launching method employed in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) bullet train project is an innovative technique used for constructing elevated viaducts. This cutting-edge method enables the rapid and efficient installation of precast concrete segments to create the elevated track structure for the high-speed rail line.
In the full span launching method, precast concrete segments are manufactured off-site and transported to the construction site. These segments are then assembled and connected to form a continuous viaduct structure. The entire span, typically ranging from 20 to 45 meters in length, is constructed and launched as a single unit.
To accomplish this, the segments are positioned on launching gantries or special launching trusses that are supported on temporary piers. Hydraulic jacks and other specialized equipment are used to incrementally push or pull the launching gantries forward, thus sliding the entire span onto the permanent piers or supports.
This method offers several advantages over traditional construction techniques.
