Using a bread machine to make bread
Basic White Bread Machine Recipe
prep time 5 minutes total time 3 hours and 5 minutes
Equipment needed
Bread Machine
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of lukewarm water
1/3 cup lukewarm milk
3 tablespoons melted butter
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons instant dry yeast
3 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Pour into all the ingredients by order into the bread machine.
2. Close the lid, and choose your settings. I do a 2 lb loaf, basic loaf, light, or medium crust. Then I hit the start button.
3. After the bread is all done, carefully remove the pan from the machine and leave it on the counter for 10 minutes. To get the bread out of the pan, carefully shake it and place it in a storage container or bag.
4. Serve warm or cold, and do as you wish. Just store it properly for freshness, and so it doesn't go stale quickly. It lasts 3 -4 days stored in a cloth bag in the dark area of your kitchen or your pantry.

My belief is you are not really cooking unless you make somewhat of a mess.
My thought also.
You said you'd need 3 1/2 cups flour but you put in 4 cups.? Then later put in more. It will be easier to follow if you'd say at the start you'll need so many cups but to start you'll put in only some of it.

What do you do if you don't have sourdough starter?
You can make what they call a reg 14 day Master Dough. That I will make a video on how to do for you.

What I did was used all-purpose flour 3/8 cup and 1/4 cup distilled water. and feed it once in the am and once in the pm. I started it on a Saturday because I wanted my bake day to be on Saturdays. While doing this process I leave it on the counterI kept adding to the bowl until that first Saturday than I took out and put 1/2 cup into another bowl. I used the left over starter for pancakes and waffles. Did this process until I decided to try and see if it was mature. To test it. I put 1/2 cup of starter in two wide mouth pint jars. I put one in the fridge and left the other on the counter. If the one in the fridge doubles the counter starter. You have a mature starter.
