@@MalaySingaporeanGlobeTrotter Glad to answer your question. We initially booked a rental car online from Europcar. After we arrived at the airport, since there was no agent at the Europcar counter. After a long wait, we eventually had to switch to Budget/Avis. Hope this helps. Thank you!

Thank you for your interest in my New Zealand videos! Our driving distance varied day by day. To give you a rough idea, we drove 3882 km in 16 days (including South Island ua-cam.com/video/kYdNn_L-3mU/v-deo.html and North Island ua-cam.com/video/fHEA5h0xDno/v-deo.html), and therefore 3882/16=242 km per day on average. We stay in hotels, motels or b&b, booked from Expedia or AirBnb. These rooms were all booked 6 - 9 months prior to the trip. We don't know how easy it is to book them on spot. We had three adults in the trip, costing total about US$6500 excluding air fare to and from Auckland, but including everything else. Hope this helps. All the best!

That was several years ago. What we did may not work after so many years. Anyway, this was what we did based on our note. 1) Walked from East gate of Wulingyuan to Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Bus Terminal 张家界武陵源汽车客运站, 1.3 km, 19 min; 2) Took a bus from Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Bus Terminal to Zhangjiajie Forest Park 张家界森林公园 south gate. Several bus routes can reach or pass by there. ¥10/person, 29min, 18.2km; 3) After entering Zhangjiajie Forest Park south gate (ticket required), we took free in-park shuttle 环保车 from the south gate to Huangshi cable car lower station 索道下站. The shuttle runs 10 min, 1 stop. Of course, you can just take taxi to do 1) and 2), which will be more expensive.
