Assessing Potential Risks to the Bulk Power System from Older Inverter-based Distribution Generation
Переглядів 582 місяці тому
NARUC undertook a study to assess potential risks to the distribution system from older inverter-based distribution generation. Using data from ISO-NE and individual New England states, the analysis identified ~160,000 legacy DER sites totaling ~4,400 MW across the ISO-NE area. The study finds that these legacy inverter-based sites could pose a rise to bulk power system reliability but that ISO...

    Russia is already producing HALEU in commercial quantity for their SMR opertion. Russia already have 40% market share in commercial LEU fuel. Even US and EU are importing 20% of their LEU fuel from Russia. To reduce nuclear fuel or energy dependency on Russia, US should hurry to build HALEU plant with production capacity enough to provide commercial HALEU needs of the world. It should have enough scale to be cost competitive.

    Thanks for the presentation. I am excited about all the renewable resources that are being implemented. Places like California, Texas, Spain, China the list goes on. I did take a google maps look at Adelaide. At first I was a bit confused as everyone was putting their panels on the north side. Then it occurred to me that Y'all are "down under".

    Although I have an _”ancient”_ (1976) degree in electrical engineering, I do have one question: In an area where both 12 Kv and 4 kv distribution systems are used, as a rule of thumb, is one more susceptible than the other to subjecting the end user (120/240v, 1Φ, 3 wire, overhead) to lightning and/or switching surges?

    No clue who came up with the idea of having 50 million power generation points to monitor and maintain instead of a couple "Power" suppliers, but they should be fired.

    Putting Solar on every house is kind of pointless and a step backward from having the "Grid", the Grid is so the way to do things.

  • @user-hg2tk3xj9y
    @user-hg2tk3xj9y 7 місяців тому

    This is so how we as a nation need to go solar, turning every house into a power generator is way to risky and expensive....Power Generation is complex as can be, the average American should not be in charge of it at all...to risky.

    As an electrician, I am always irked by the myth of Tesla being still perpetuated. It was not Edison vs Tesla, but Edison vs Westinghouse. Edison and Tesla got along just fine, and spoke well of each other. The three phase 3 wire system that we use was not invented by Tesla, but by Mikhail Dolivo-Dobrovolsky, a Russian/Polish engineer, electrician, and inventor in the 1880s. Tesla's 3 phase system was a beast that required 6 wires, and like most of his wacky ideas, was thankfully never adopted. Tesla was a clever Hitler loving wack job with some bright ideas, but did not contribute nearly as much to electrical systems as people give him credit for. The reason for his "suppression" was that many unthinkable concepts, such as the atomic bomb, were becoming reality during WW2, so the US Department of Defense classified all of Tesla's work due to his close ties and support of Hitler and the Nazis in order to prevent any possible technology from falling into Nazi hands. As it turned out, Tesla's ideas, such as death rays, did not actually work very well, as extensive testing by the US department of defense discovered.

      @@mattheweggert5583 Kathy Loves Physics channel has very good episodes regarding Tesla and other people who developed our understanding of electricity. It has been too many years ago that I read any information on Tesla to remember the source materials. In my IBEW electrical apprenticeship he just had a minor mention, and was not considered very prominent in developing our understanding of electricity.

    I forgot to add that I have a child that relies on a breathing machine to stay alive, however sometimes I cannot afford these crazy utility bills. I’ve told my utility company that I have a child who needs power to stay alive and they told me if I didn’t pay that my power will be turned off. This is madness and should be a criminal offense. Please help…God Bless you and yours.

    Greetings Mr McCabe, I wanted to ask you some questions regarding consumer electricity in Arizona my home state. Now I do know that the government funds and basically prepaid utilities for man and women for our personal use. Now I need assistance on why I’m getting charge as a contractor type of business when I am no commercial business, it’s just a basic 2,500 sq ft house. The utility company is being in dishonest and charging me lots of federal reserve notes. The problem I have is why am I getting charge for electricity when the government is prepaying the utilities? Keep in mind I have proof that our utilities are already prepaid for our personal use. Any information would definitely be appreciated gratitude.

    As a random guy with solar panels, this was really interesting, thank you for making it available! They mentioned that of course if you're using battery storage for black start, then you can't use that storage for normal operations since you don't know when the black start may be needed. I wonder if people have thought about single-shot (rather than rechargeable) batteries for providing black start power? I could imagine these being cheaper to buy and easier to store, but who knows if that's true

    take this list of 14 CES states and compare it with the map of states bill gates has purchased land in -- pretty good hit rate for smart business states! note also that neighboring states can sell power to each other, and that (at least in texas) we can target specific production types when we buy even at the retail level, and that lawmakers will jump through hoops to make sure such neighbor-state purchases would technically be carbon-free if it meant saving their job because prices got too high. the picture is pretty clear: commercial SMR operators are going to be rich.

      She has no right to talk about GRIT to me a woman in construction. I have leased from the “Zalewski family” Micheal & Carrie for 5-1/2 years. During covid they attempted to raise my rent throw me out by asking me sign all my rights away. I have all emails and text etc. I have a toilet that has not worked in 4 years. I was a absolutely harassed by my neighbors they openly did drugs- it’s a townhouse and they would throw their cigarettes on my wooden deck. I contacted Mike daily begging for some relief from the noise the abuse and being threatened. My daughter and my car was vandalized this went on for 9 months. I was also laid off in December 2020 - I was under a lease til November 2021. Met in person so supportive etc - get a text want you out by Feb 8!!!?? Then get and email days later with apology- They are entitled when they don’t get what they want which is money they use their power to threaten you into submission. After receiving rental relieve getting half my unemployment they now want 17000. In back rent!!’ I have actual email text that were paid??!!
