I just don't get the Band Maid music. Dressed as maids? I don't understand if this is suppose to be some kind of fetish thing in modern Japanese culture or what. Their singing sounds very poppy, Mariah Carey style, and then they lay in some heavy guitar. They seem to of been put together by committee or a marketing firm aiming at trying to get the most likes. Pretty confusing. By contrast The Warning music and performance is part rock and roll, part grunge, part metal, part punk, singing in English and in Spanish the two most widely spoken languages. They don't use elaborate cos-play outfits just comfortable clothing rocking out.

I wouldn`t compare them. Band-Maid is Hard-Rock and The Warning is Classic Rock.

I like The Warning and Band Maid. The Warning is stripped down basic rock and Band Maid is complex rock, punk, metal and pop sometimes all in one song . You can like both bands for different reasons.

Can we skip the who is "better" debate? They are each doing their own thing, and doing it well. If you want to talk about differences, how about one band has 3 members, and the other band has 5 members. Just that alone would explain many of the differences. What works and sounds good for a 5 piece would not fit a 3 piece.

Not really a fan of the music I've heard so far from BainMaid ... Not really into that super fast guitar playing. I've only heard of them through The Warning, who I discovered last summer, and who has become the favorite band of this 64-year-old.

Welcome back Brent. Excellent perspective on these 2 superb female rock bands. The best in the world IMO. It's incredible how their rock is so different and complementary at the same time. Their collaboration song Show Them proves it on stage but we will have to wait for the official release. In addition, they became very good friends, which is rather rare for bands from different cultures. Have you seen these photos of them in a restaurant? Enough to imagine other collaborations in the future such as world tours together. Why not ? Thanks Brent.

I think that The Warning has the greater potential for worldwide popularity because: 1) they are fluent and sing in 2 of the 3 most widely spoken languages in the world, and 2) their songs, while less complex on the face of it, are more relatable and digestible (both musically and lyrically) by a broader audience than Band Maid’s.

Brent, thank you for that PERFECT summarization of Band-Maid and The Warning. These eight women are so talented and "Show Us" (even the bootleg live recording of their concert collaboration in Tokyo) that the Warning Army and Maidacs would love for them to tour and do rock festivals together (that's how they met in the first place). I'm starting to think that the future of rock lies in the talent and power of its women musicians. Male musicians and especially record company executives had better take note. This is not going to go away but will continue to build.

I think both bands gave their fans something very special and their collaboration shows a level of maturity and professionalism that I think is not highlighted enough! Also, BAND-MAID and the Warning have been improving over the years and are still improving which is a delight to their fans as they follow their progress! 🖤

I think that both bands have a lot of chemistry thogether, they work amazing, not many bands, can play live well, with two drum sets, three guitars, two bass and five voices at the same time.

For me the difference between the bands is this, The Warning are of the less is more philosophy and Band-Maid are more of the virtuosity/complexity philosophy, so depending on your musical sensibilities, you will be more attracted to one band over the other. So as I have always been a less is more kind of guy, The Warning is it for me and while I admire Band-Maid, I have never been a fan, just like I was never a fan of Dream Theatre or DragonForce. Plus The Warning lyrics being in English is the cherry on top.

Glad you found The Warning - they do have a way of brightening the day! Excited to see & hear both bands together - I've known of Band Maid longer than I can remember (6-8 years at least) and The Warning for just 2.5 years. I think every fan just loves the brief video clip of the bands running into each other backstage at Aftershock (2022?) - I knew how much it meant to DPA, but I was happily surprised that not only did BM know TW, they were fans as well!!

I couldn’t give a toss how similar or different they are. We are just so lucky to be around to witness them rise to their peak, plus Lovebites of course….This is definitely a golden age dawning upon us, if it hasn’t already dawned….I hope they all stick with it and become global rockstars. I don’t think any of these three bands are too far away from that.

I was at the show the two bands did together in Tokyo! What a show THAT was! I got to know the Warning through my exploration of Band Maid. I've now seen BM three times and I've got three Warning shows lined up. Two in the L.A. area and one in Guadalalara! These two bands are amazing, and seeing them together is awe inspiring due to their mutual respect and dare I say, LOVE! I do hope there's a co-headlining tour in the works!

Kanami seemed to be very much in charge when they recorded the song. Apparently according to The Warning she suggested certain ways to play and was in control of the engineers. The live 30 second official release of the band playing together was a delight. A real super band. Like the Incubus collaboration this seems to be very much an idea from the bands themselves and not a management invention. They may not spend much time talking or having conversations as they speak a different language. But again, according to The Warning, music very much was the connection and way they communicated.

Discovered both bands about a year ago...both sensational. With three virtuosos on bass, drums & lead guitar, hard for B-M to make a bad song & not sure anyone can match their instrumentals. And we know songwriting, stage presence and vocals/harmonies are TW long suits. Just amazing that my two faves happen to like one another...and collabed. Way cool!

I've heard some people very familiar with both bands say that _Band-Maid_ is technically better but _The Warning_ is superior in the song writing. This collaboration was a great idea.

I just discovered _The Warning_ 4 months ago and _Band-Maid_ through them. I'm surprised at how many people in the industry (Rock Music) compare _The Warning_ to iconic Rock Bands in the past like Van Halen when they were starting.

Would be awesome for them to tour together. Another difference is that The Warning are 10+ years younger than Band-Maid.

They did not write this together. Band Maid wrote this and allowed the warning to play along. Although I really like the warning and have been watching them since the start, they are lacking in musical talent when compared to Band-Maid. Music is all about personal preferences so everybody is right and nobody is wrong when giving opinions on music so dont beat me up. The warning has a very weak link by not having a solid guitarist. The bass and drums have grown and improved to being top professionals but the guitarist has more to learn juggling the front with vocals and playing riffs in a 3 piece band. Im sure time will remedy that but as of now she falls short. The only reason I dont listen to them constantly is because there are no surprises. Their music (IMO) has a sound that you know will be the same with time changes on the same structure. The other flaw I found was that their stage presence isnt all that commanding. Im sure (with time) that they will become all that they are hyped up to be. At least I hope so. They can become one of the greats if they work hard continuously until they achieve that greatness. As I said, I am a huge fan and will continue to watch their story unfold because I believe in them but to compare them to a band like Band-Maid today isnt realistic. Very few bands on the planet (past and present) can. Remember, this is only my opinion and is only based on professionalism, stage presence and song structure that the warning brings today. My qualifications are..... being a professional guitarist for 55 years, teaching guitar and music theory for 22 years, seeing some of the greatest rock bands to ever exist, and love watching people get butt hurt over my music opinions......(not really, I enjoy differences of opinions as long as its debated cordially.)

Please pause more, explain the chord progression, comment on their looks. Every 3 seconds would be great. Really makes the song more enjoyable.

Thank you for all the wonderful and thoughtful comments -- I expected some backlash and disagreement, and am I glad there is discussion. In this video I present my opinion and my process thinking it might be interesting to others. I think Bestie is a perfectly pleasant and enjoyable song to listen to. Although I am not getting a certain emotional response from it, many of you are, and that is wonderful! As many pointed out, over time, and many more listens, the song may become more impactful to me as it has for you, especially when I consider your experiences. Thank you for that. I think it is great that Band-Maid has a song like this in their repertoire. From my perspective, some of the songwriting elements seem to distract me from fully immersing in the song, which is what I was trying to share. Some may relate, others will not. This is my issue, and I certainly hope it does not hinder anyone else's enjoyment of the song. I am happy to see that many of you love this song. I am sorry, though, that I conflated (without proper explanation) another point with this, which is what I allude to at the end of the video. Bestie is the first collaboration of two great bands. I would expect them to both put their best foot forward and come up with something really amazing. -- Again, just MY expectation. I wanted to see what these two bands can glean from each other to hopefully improve on, or at least shift in an interesting way, what each has done separately. In this regard, to be honest, I am a bit underwhelmed. That is my perspective. It could be that this song is actually a great result of their collaboration, giving something to Band-Maid that is very helpful. My view of songwriting only comes from my perspective, from which I made a judgment of moving backwards or forwards. By the way, backwards is not bad, it could be a very smart thing to do for a variety of reasons (I'm looking at you Genesis :-)). But in terms of the phenomenal growth Band-Maid has been going through with their songwriting skills, that is my assessment, and it is not generally bad or good, just a direction for this one particular song. I am glad to see some others feel differently, and it is great that we have a way that we can respectfully discuss this band that we all love.
