If You Have Something To Prove (Tip #130)
Often, we go through our lives trying to prove something to someone. Frequently, this person isn't even in our lives anymore.
Think for a moment. In your daily actions, are you trying to do or not do something based on a previous interaction with someone else?
If your answer is yes, you're still trying to prove yourself to that person even if they are no longer a part of your life.
When this happens, you're stuck in the past and are still a prisoner of a previous relationship.
Awareness of your actions is the first step to changing this pattern of trying to prove yourself.
Remember, just because you do or do not take a specific action, you cannot control what someone else thinks about your actions. You can stop being a prisoner to their beliefs or thoughts simply by no longer trying to prove yourself to them.
After listening to Dr. Edith Eger discuss this, I considered where this is happening in my life. I noticed places where it still happens even though my life has changed. With this awareness, I have the choice to change my behavior or to continue it. I appreciate having the choice!
Will you choose to remain a prisoner to a previous relationship or person?
If you need help making a different choice, use the link below to schedule a free chat to discuss how Yoga Therapy can help you make different life choices.

5 Steps to Help Someone In Crisis ( Tip #129)
Переглядів 228 днів тому
Recently, I gave a talk to my networking group about Suicide Awareness. I decided to share it with everyone because this topic needs to be shared more often. Suicide affects people at all socioeconomic levels and it is especially prevalent amongst our veterans right now. Here, I share 5 steps to help someone in crisis. You don't need to be an expert to help prevent suicide. Often, you just need...
Grief For A Body That Isn't What It Used To Be (Tip #128)
Переглядів 11Місяць тому
If we're lucky, it happens to us all. We age and grow older. Our bodies change, and we can't do what we did when we were younger. Often, I speak with women who are experiencing grief over their changing bodies. This grief is real and can stop you from living fully if you don't accept your current circumstances. Yes, you are going to change as you age. Yes, your body will be and look different t...
Normal breathing = 12 to 14 breaths a minute (Tip #127)
Переглядів 202 місяці тому
I work with a lot of people who are often breathing too fast. On the flip side, I also see people who are trying to breathe as slow as possible. There is a time and place for faster and/or slower breathing, but neither one is always the right choice. Normal breathing is going to be about 12-14 breaths per minute. As you go about your daily life, that is a good practice to use. If you find that ...
Stronger Toes Help You To Avoid Falls (Tip #126)
Переглядів 132 місяці тому
Your feet are important in so many ways! That is why I work on foot strength and flexibility with most of my clients. Recently, someone sent me a video of a chiropractor who talked about the importance of having strong toes. This chiropractor spoke about how strong toes help you to avoid falls. Why is this true? I've spoken for years about how when your feet are stronger and more flexible, they...
Wall Sits Can Lower Blood Pressure (Tip #125)
Переглядів 82 місяці тому
Lately, I've been helping many clients with their leg strength. One of the exercises that I use is a Wall Sit. I find it accessible for most of my clients and it can be quite effective. The increased leg strength you get from a Wall Sit is the obvious benefit. The not-so-obvious benefit is Lower Blood Pressure. Since I work with mostly older folks who have tend to have higher blood pressure, th...
A Better Savasana (Tip #124)
Переглядів 204 місяці тому
Have you ever laid in Savasana and just not been able to get comfortable? Something didn't feel quite right and it was hard to truly relax and reap the benefits of the pose? If you answered yes, then know that you're not alone! After a recent yoga class, I took a few minutes to show a few people how to make a few self- adjustments to their bodies so that their Savasana was even better than befo...
Jury Duty Was So Edgy For Me (Tip #122)
Переглядів 74 місяці тому
I recently had to report for Jury Duty. I found this experience to be very edgy for me. Why? Mostly because it meant that my week was going to be very unpredictable and it made it impossible to operate my business as I normally would. It was interesting to notice how this experience affected me and how I responded to it. My main lesson was that I couldn't control the jury duty but I could pay a...
Healthy Muscles = Strong and Flexible Muscles (Tip # 121)
Переглядів 125 місяців тому
I've been teaching yoga since 2006 and I've taught yoga to thousands of people. Over the years, I've seen so many different body types and abilities. I've noticed that there are two main types of people. There are those that are interested in building strength and those that are interested in increasing flexibility. Rarely have a met someone who really wanted both. Either approach to physical f...

What is Anxiety and when to seek help for it (Tip #124)
Переглядів 46 місяців тому
What is one common experience among most of my clients? That would be anxiety. I see it in so many clients. It can vary from mild to severe but it's something that is showing up more and more in my office. Anxiety is a distress or uneasiness about something that may or may not happen in the future. It's about the perception of something happening. While anxiety is a completely normal emotion or...
What is the meaning of Namaste? (Tip #118)
Переглядів 167 місяців тому
I recently had a client ask me what Namaste means. I actually get that question a lot. So, here's a brief explanation of what it means. Namaste is a word that has become part of the English language. If you've been to a yoga class, you likely heard it. You might have also seen it on a cup or a t-shirt as part of a funny logo, but that's not how it was originally intended. Where did it come from...

Don't Forget To Include Time For Yourself (Tip #116)
Переглядів 69 місяців тому
I over schedule myself more often than I like. Why do I do this? Because I invariably think that I have more time in the day than I do. I was reminded recently that time can be compared to a pie. Once you've eaten all the slices, it's done. In the pie of time, you can fill it however you like. If half of it is filled with your work life, than the rest must be divided amongst all of your other i...
Let's Try Box Breathing (Tip #115)
Переглядів 69 місяців тому
How much attention do you pay to your breath? It seems to be a universal trait that when we're focusing our attention elsewhere, then we start to hold our breath. So, it's something that I remind my clients to do all of the time! There's more to your breath than simply remembering to breathe. Paying attention to the simple act of breathing in and out can be a powerful way to practice your focus...

This is one of my favorite tips! It has helped me a lot. For example, I apply this tip by doing a few minutes of yoga and exercise in the morning. I also try to do at least five minutes of practice with an app on my phone to improve my Spanish language skills. And I use my therapy putty for five minutes to help improve the dexterity in my fingers where I have nerve damage. All that time adds up and moves me closer to where I want to be. This is a fabulous tip!! Thank you!
