Thanks I am glad that we are both still here.
Thank you Stan. Container gardening is a subject all on it's own. This will help a lot of people.
Absolutely, I probably need to do one entirely on the benefits of container gardening. Thank you for watching and the suggestion.
@AskMrGreenthumbGardening I've followed you a a long time. I'm glad to see you're still around. I live around the corner from where Martin Giles used to live before he passed. God bless.
@@1boortzfan Well I appreciate you following me, and thank you for participating in my journey! Thank you watching and God Bless you!
Lol at your great accents. :D So silly and fun. Oh and the sound effects too. Figs are wonderful. I want to thank you for inspiring me to eat healthier btw.
Yeah I try and keep it silly and fun, and supply some good info. So glad eating healthier is so important. Thanks so much for watching! Stan
Good to see you're still teaching gardening, Stan - I owe my success in part to you! My parents gave me your book Florida Gardening when I turned 9, back in 1988. I still have it.
That's one of the best compliments I have ever received. That really made my day, thank you for sharing that with me. I love gardening and getting others like yourself to enjoy it! Have a wonderful week my friend! Stan Mr. GT!
Hello Stan. I'm from Cape Cod, and Northern New York. How about one on artichokes? The flowers are super pretty, and the bees go bananas over them!
Great suggestion! I will put that in the rotation for sure. Thanks so much!
@@AskMrGreenthumbGardening Thank you!
Thank you Stan. So you'll know I saw Kelly on the local news last week about the tree that fell in St.Pete. She gave a very good showing of herself, looking very professional.
Oh that's awesome, Kelly Stafford is an amazing lady running an an amazing company, we feel very fortunate to have her as a sponsor. Thank you so much for letting me know about this. Thanks for watching too, Stan.
U learn something new every day
Everyday is a good day, and learning is so important. Thanks for watching.
I agree with using lime and lemon in water. I found myself drinking more soda and decided to stop. P.S. I love the little sound effects.
Interesting, Stan. First I have heard of the kaffir Lime. Thanks.
What fertilizer do I use on this plant. I live in Miami
Use a balanced fertilizer with an NPK ratio (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) of around 10-10-10 or similar. This ensures that your plant gets a good overall supply of nutrients. Have a wonderful day and thank you for watching my friend!
What is that stem or scape that grows out the center of the romaine lettuce.
That stem or scape that grows out of the center of romaine lettuce is called the "heart" or "core." It's the central, compact part of the lettuce head where the leaves are tightly packed together. In culinary terms, the heart of romaine lettuce is often prized for its crisp texture and concentrated flavor. Thanks for watching, Stan
Didn’t mention what type of soil you need, how much light, or when you should water it.
Good points, I didn't elaborate on those areas. Black Kow is always a good start with your soil but I would use it 50/50 with any general potting mix with perlite to encourage good drainage. Desert Rose does very well in full sun, and after it's establishment period mother nature will take care of it's watering needs. Thanks for watching!
Yay, a new video. Mr. DeFreitas, I love the sound effects you use too. I wonder if this Jasmine would grow on Cape Cod? I think it would. The cats and dogs are too cute.
In Cape Cod, Star Jasmine might struggle due to the colder temperatures, especially in winter. It may survive in sheltered locations with protection from harsh winds and cold temperatures, but it may not thrive or bloom as vigorously as it would in its preferred zones. Thanks so much for watching! Yeah we think adding pets to gardening just makes sense, thanks again for watching!
This sounds like a wonderful plant to try and grow on the front corner of my house. I could see it twinning around one of my porch posts, open on 2 sides.
Go for it! Thanks for watching!
Ha, that is corny, but cute. Don't be a stinka, show us your vinca! Thank you!
My son thought it was really funny, I was half in on it, but then thought why not... Thanks for watching!
Just got one yesterday here in Orlando for $5.00
Awesome! Send me a photo through my website if you have the time, as I would love to see your progress. www.askmrgreenthumb.com
lots of bark and wood chips in black kow. i no longer buy it for that reason, i get composted manure at a local nursery instead
Hmm, I would definitely check with Blackkow.com and let them know about your experience.
@AskMrGreenthumbGardening ive bought it several different times of year at different locations and its always the same. maybe 50 percent of the bag is actual composted manure, the rest is definitely filler. buy a bag of composted cow manure from a nursery that carries stuff from local farms and compare it to black kow, theres a definite difference
@@cantwealljustgetalong2 Well very sorry to hear this, I know this wasn't always the case, I'll check in with their distributor to see if they are changing things...
If you keep an aquarium, PH is important too. I like your attempt at Japanese. Tough language to learn.
Thanks it's so hard, but I absolutely love the Japanese culture! Wonderful people and they have amazing plants!
Great video Stan. You have wonderful graphics to go on your videos as well. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! We put a lot of love into making these video's so thank you for taking the time to let me know you are enjoying them. Have a wonderful day!
Great episode and information. Now subscribed
Thank you so much! We work really hard on these, but we love gardening so we love doing them!
This year something was off with black cow. What I got was wet and still had ammonia smell to it! I went to the web site and logged a complaint with contact information and no reply ever received!
I am sorry to hear that, hopefully your experience was a one off.
Well that settles it for me. A dwarf mulberry is for me.
Same here! He has convinced me to plant cabbage too! I'm a donor. Glad you were helped Mr. DeFreitas.
Awesome, please report back and let me know how you did growing a dwarf mulberry, I think it's an amazing edible fruit tree.
@@rdred8693 Thank you so much for being a Donor! I truly would not be here without amazing people like you!
@rdred8693 just know you can't plant cabbage till at least Sept, maybe Oct.
@@1boortzfan Even in zone 6? Hmm, maybe that is why they aren't forming a head?🤔
I used this stuff for last couple years and It was doing good This year for some reason I guess was not composted right and burned a lot of tomatoes and peppers And I notice they have lot more mulch in
Wow I am sorry to hear this, please let them know about your experience at BlackKow.com as I know they would want to know this.
Thank you. I wondered what those holes were. Tanner is cute too!
Yeah if you see them you should definitely have a certified arborist who is also a licensed pest control operator come out to treat.
One of my favorite flowers. :) Thank you.
Oh I agree it's a really beauty! Thank you for watching!
Love Meyer lemons. You say that citrus do well in full sun, and they do. I seem to have an issue with leaf miners when grown in full sun though. If grown in a dappled light, under a coconut palm for example, the leaf miners tend to either leave them alone completely, or rarely bother them. I need to get another Meyer lemon, which produce year-round as opposed to seasonal with other citrus. I had one when I lived on another property and would like to get another. I also have finger lime, key lime, and ponderosa lemon, which is one of my favorites. Nice video
Thanks so much for watching, we really appreciate it and thank you for sharing, I need to do a video on ponderosa lemons too as you have just inspired me.
Black cow is not monitoring their manure source. Herbicide is starting to show up , effecting many growers.. be careful
How do you know this to be in fact true?
@@AskMrGreenthumbGardening. Good question. It was wrong for me to assume that they are not monitoring their source. Although I have read and seen several reports of growers experiencing issues with crops after using black cow. Since yesterday I’ve learned that certain herbicides used on hay fields are passed through to the compost. . No actual facts as to whether or not black cow obtains their compost from those farms. As I stated. Be careful. People are suggesting to plant a few peas in the mix before using it, to confirm germination.
I have one of these daisies but something is eating the petals - lots of them. What is it and how do I get rid?
Cucumber beetles eat the petals of my flowers.
Yeah send me a photo @ stanmrgreenthumb@gmail.com and I will look at it for you.
Cow manure is cow manure. Does not make a difference.
To some extent that's true, but I would also say Black Kow puts a lot of pride into what they do, I have been to their Oxford plant, inspected it, and it's impressive.
Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to watch! I appreciate you!
I love bees too.
Bee's are so amazing!
Thank you for the fabulous commercial.😂
Well I think we gave you some good advice too.
Too expensive for a good sized garden.
I completely understand, I often mix it with peat or other soil blends to make it go further.
@@AskMrGreenthumbGardening Instead, I use composted cow manure for less than half the price of Black Kow. Peat is also ridiculously expensive. It used to be so inexpensive years ago.
@@robertjohnson4401 I understand and definitely hear you.
I’ve used it and had good results. This year I bought a trailer load of 8 year old horse manure. My garden is growing unbelievable, already picked some beans. In Ohio beautiful stuff.
Love you bring in the Bible! One of my favorite plants
I have one of these as well.Thank you for the information. I just subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
Such a good looking little flower. Now I know how to pronounce the name too!
Thanks so much for watching you are the best!
nice content
Can you use this around hydrangeas and hardly fushia ??does it need tobe mixed with anything else??
Sure you can just make you keep your pH below 6.4 otherwise you may experience an iron deficiency.
Cabbage is very tasty when cooked correctly. "This should be your carbohydrates rather than bread" Very much agreed. Thank you!
I completely agree! Thanks for watching! You are awesome!

Give it a go, I don't see what that would be an issue, and then if you would report back on what your experience was like. Thanks!
Is a corn genetically engineered.. is the hey herbicide free ? Is the grass they eat herbicide free?
All excellent questions, I would kindly refer you to Blackkow.com to ask them directly.
Please elaborate on this.. does the cow feed have herbicides in it.... please answer....
All excellent questions, I would kindly refer you to blackkow.com to ask them directly.
Does the feed you feed the cows you get the manure from have herbicides in a feed
All excellent questions, I would kindly refer you to Blackkow.com to ask them directly.
I just messaged the Black Kow company to ask them. But, I wonder, had they ever got back to you about herbicides? And, if so, what;d they say about it?
@@juliegogola4647 The owners of the company hold their products to the highest ethical standards possible, I would be super shocked if they allowed any chemicals at all with regards to the creation of their products. They are amazing people who run a 1st class facility right there in Oxford Florida.
@@AskMrGreenthumbGardening Hello, the company has yet to contact me. But, I have chosen to buy 3 bags of BK potting soil today to fill up a raised bed that I had emptied of old potting soil. I did so because I had done a sorta "test" with my bagged BK manure. I made a "tea" with it, and watered a few peas with it. Legumes are very sensitive to the herbicides, and my peas would have died if it had any herbicides in it. So, I trust it now. Your saying that it's good is nice to hear too. I had seen some videos that said that it COULD have herbicides gave me some apprehension about using it before though. Thanks for your reply. 😁

Sounds like a good plan!
My dogs love to eat this dirt.
Hmm not sure I can recommend that but it's really good soil for your plants.
@@AskMrGreenthumbGardening There is a solution, which worked in the past, but chicken wire fence around a compost pile, and buy black-cow, and compost for a year or so, with leaves, etc. I used the end result, and it was impressive. The man that did it, also used lots of egg shells in his compost.
