In summer 2015 I was learning about multi-track live band recording. I multi-track recorded the Oasis of the Seas show band doing a tribute to Chet Baker. At the last minute I grabbed a camera and took video as well. (shaky hand cam ;-) ) This summer, 7 years later, I remixed the audio in Logic Pro. (I tracked and did the first mix in GarageBand back in 2015) band: Peter Isaac - vocals , band l...

String sound great on your bass. Any idea how these compare to the Pirastro Evah Pirazzi ( Gold ) Slaps? I put those on my 3/4 laminate bass and the E and A just don't have fundamental and definition that I need. I am considering these Innovation Golden Slaps for the E and A to match with the EP Gold Slaps D and G.
Hi, I recently took off the Innovation Golden Slaps from this same bass and put on a pack of Evah Pirazzi Slaps. The EP Slaps: The E string is a bit flabby. The A is ok. The G and D work very well. They have Low tension, regular metal winding and so they are bowable. That's the main difference IMO. EP Slaps are Triple use - Pizz, Slap, Arco. Innovation Golden Slaps are double use: Pizz, Slap. The E and A of the Golden Slaps are good, If you don't bow, but the E also has a drop off of power. If you want to maintain a metal winding and Arco possibility, maybe EP Weich? (Good) Or EP solo tuned down to concert? (Never used it personally) or even Innovation Braided (never used it personally)?
@@srikanthnarayanan Thanks for the response. The bass in question is strictly for pizz playing. Jazz, Swing, Boogie Woogie, Jump Blues. That sort of thing. I am currently using Savarez Corelli solo 360M tuned down for the E and A to match the D and G of the Evah Pirazzi which I love the sound of. The tone and tension are a good match, but the difference in gauge makes it difficult/awkward to play notes on the lower strings as I have to reach around the fatter D and G strings. So I ordered an E and A from the Innovation Golden Slaps, but the store ended up sending me an older stock, double nylon wrapped, A and a newer GHS/Innovation E that has only one nylon wrap. Still in the process of deciding if I want to put these two mismatched strings on the bass.
Heh! What a sweet memory! The best musicians are here! And formal night!
I think you and David would have got along well, chatting away in the crew mess.

Hey Srikanth and Katie, maybe you'd be interested in checking out my extraordinary ballet called "An American Tango" as in you tubing "An American Tango -- behind the scenes" or googling it or my folks, Veloz and Yolanda, upon which the ballet is based. There is a scene in it, the way I wrote it anyway, that is an almost precise analogue to your above scene, where my slightly inebriated and philandering father goes to a swing club in the 1940's see this stunning 20 year old, that would be your incredibly sexy Katy Beale, dancing swing with her younger bro, when my ole man up and swaggers across the floor, shoves her brother violently out of his way, catches hold on Katier er well Jean (Jean Veloz, historically) and they do a predatory dance of febrile seduction. Not to Harlem Nocturne but to something rather close in nature to it called "Lovers Lament" by my dad's old orchestra leader, Shep Field. Never worked out so sexily hot as your STUNNING piece above because uber talented choreographer, William Soleau, toned it down to something much less wildly animalistic. Ahhhhh, too bad, ey wot? But my ballet is STILL filled with historical gangsters like Dutch Schultz, lots of sex, philandering, boozing and general hell raising, including in a reduplicated Ziegfeld extravaganza, Walter winchell, Waxey Gordon (Angel of the Ziegfeld show, besides being a murderous bootlegger) and on and on. I think you'd find it interesting. And you are more than welcome to check out my facebook page, filled to the brim with stuff about my show and my folks, Veloz and Yolanda, who were on the cover of LIFE magazine, oct. 1939, subtitles: Greatest Dancing Couple, who many times broke the attendance record at the Hollywood Bowl, last time doing this June, 1948, holding onto this record for 16 years till the Beatles came in and eclipsed it in 1964. etc etc etc. Please visit my facebook page. You'll find it interesting.
Do you find the E string projects as well as the other? Listening to the video it sounds like it drops some, but that could be my headphones. Thank you for the video!
Not sure if that is the string. My bass, and most ply basses, have a weaker E than say the A, D, or G.
@@srikanthnarayanan Yea, that's true also of my hybrid. I guess just the nature of the beast. I mostly play amped and can compensate a bit with eq to fix that, but I'd like for them to all ring out acoustically. Thank you! 😊
I appreciate your answer! Do you think overall these would work acoustically in like a bluegrass type band with 5 other instruments, projection wise? I'm about to get either the silver slaps or super silvers.
JUST ADORE this sexy piece. Humahumahumahuma! Hotter than hell.
Thanks, it was a lot of fun performing this choreography and arrangement and with a great team.
Hi - what is that bass you are playing here?
Eminence Electric Upright Bass. It has an acoustic body. The removable neck model is great for travelling by airplane.
@@srikanthnarayanan Thats awesome - nice to see an electric upright that is really portable but still has some of the vibe of a full acoustic bass. You're making it sound great here too :0)
Awesome :)
thanks, I loved this choreography too.
Did you learn slap with these strings, as you mentioned in the video? I love them but slap is hard after using Dirty Guts, which are much easier on the fingers, albeit with less deifinition
I did not study slap technique thoroughly. :-(.
May I ask how old the strings were when you made this video? They sound pretty bedded in
Hello again Donald. When I made that video, the strings were brand new.

Excellent, thanks for the link. How do you like the full set?
Thank you so much for your video, and replying to my question. Your video led to me choosing Golden Slaps, and Im REALLY happy with them. Thank you again :-)
You're welcome Donald. Enjoy! They are fun strings.
Nice video. How’s the intonation?
Thanks. Intonation is a little off because of the thickness of the strings and not being able to move the bridge saddle back. Good enough though. It's easy to press the string sharp, so a light yet firm touch is required.
Hi Srikanth ... great video, thank you. Could you tell me, did you record this just acoustically? No amplification? Also, was there any particular reason you chose Golden Slaps over Silver Slaps? You are the only person I've seen playing Golden Slaps. They sound great on your bass, which is almost identical to mine
Hello Donald. Thanks for the compliment. The sound is all acoustic. No amp. I used an Audio Technica microphone that is just off camera near the treble side lower bout. It is also the microphone capturing my voice, so that might give the impression that the bass is very loud compared to speech. I chose the Golden Slaps for the colour. It looks more like I gut perhaps, but it also doesn't look like all the other strings.
Wow I thing I am your 100th subcriber ! Keep the good work, bravo! You look a bit like Adrian Vedady if we look fast.
haha, thank you.
What a wonderful world! Thank you for this pure beauty!
Thank you Dymtro!
Srikanth! I just put a D and G on mine and love it
Awesome! I still have them on mine.
Slap it!
Thanks!
What is the entire set #? I need to order the entire set. Thank you!
Hi, I'm not sure if Savarez makes a complete set one octave lower than standard. For the D string (73.2Hz) it looks like the code is 5207R. They are under the labels of Silverwound 7-13. For the G, B, and E strings an octave lower than normal, you might have to detune regular A,D,G strings. (Or tune up regular E, A and D strings). Perhaps the folks at Savarez will answer your query through their "contact" page?
@stang880 Aquila makes full sets of octave-lower strings (all six wound, set number 143C). I just bought them, they are fine. The low E string is so thick that it doesn't fit into the nut (same problem as in this video) but I'm not going to modify my guitar for now.
Low640r
Thanks for the video! They sound like guts to my ears and seem to have decent volume.
You're welcome.

great moment to listening to you thank you
You'll welcome. :-)
Question: are the strings too quiet, or are they reasonably loud for how deep they are?
Hi Nathan, I found these strings to be pretty even with the other 4 regular strings. The loudest volume of these bass range strings may be lower than the loudest volume of the higher strings because of the guitar's body, but they have enough sound to give a good balance.
Srikanth Narayanan Well they're really cool. I might have to get them.
wow... can't get my head around that sound lol. really peculiar. never even heard of these until this vid so thanks for the insight. was trying to pick my first set of savarez strings (high tension) and was looking at 500cj's first but was looking for their best. I've only used pro arte highs and exp's and wanted to move on. if they aren't exp's i feel they get dull too fast? I do play for hours per day ofcourse but they still seem to get a bit dull too fast.
Hi there, nothing like trying them out and hearing yourself. Plus is for bass strings, sometimes a little dull fits just right. :-)
too slow
It's 2 clicks beneath the recording tempo. And your expertise is...?
It’s really slow I’m a kid and plays normal speed 😂

awesome thanks! I just ordered these strings :) now I don't have to buy a bass guitar :)
Hi! where did you get those strings??? I could not find them... :-(
Interesting awesome bass tone...
Thank you for this great review! I just discovered the possibility to fit lower tension strings on classical guitar. Bought a set of MAGMA TRANSPOSITOR Baritone (B-E-A-D-F+-B) and a set an ovctave lower for BASS - similar to the one presented. I belive they are even harder to find (made in Argentina) but sound well on my old Di Gregorio. Didn't ajust the nut neither for insatnce! Will serach for Savarez too, heard about similar from Hannabach. Any other ideas? Magma Transpositors sell around 36 Euro a set!
Hi Romain, thank you for your comment. I have only ever used these Savarez strings. How do you like the set you chose?
Romain Read, where’d you find the Baritone magma transpositors for sell?
Oh my god thank you sooo much. I am looking info for this strings for 3 months but can able to find you now. Not a big deal because your review is fantastic. You answered nearly all questions in my mind. thank you again :) Can I ask you something. Can you play more than 1 note per bar in this strings? like a bass guitar? because I heard this strings not give good sound when you play more than 1 note per bar. another question is " can this strings go to the f# and b? to match in fourths tuning in 8 string classical? and last question how the intonation is? I hope you answered. You will save me from buying and trying bunch of useless strings for low notes :)
Hi Mez4rc1, thank you for the positive feedback. Yes you can play more than one note per bar and get a reasonable sound, but within limits, since the strings and body are smaller than an acoustic bass guitar. Bass+chords is where these strings, in combination with regular guitar strings, will excel. I have not tried tuning the bass strings up a whole tone to F# and B. They way I have them cut, there is not enough extra room in the peg box (head stock). I'd have to cut the strings and try, but I won't be able to do that until the end of July. The intonation is reasonable. The strings are fat and so they don't vibrate as easily as skinnier strings, but for one bass note at a time, they work well enough.
+Srikanth Narayanan okey :) thank you for fast response. I'm gonna try this strings when my 8 string came.
Where to find these strings?:)))
+Miloš “Nani” Momčilović Nani Hi Milos, thank you for asking. I bought mine online from www.stringsbymail.com Type in the codes I listed above.
