Annars bra kanon!

Translation for the algorithm (and because I adore Brenta design vessels)... A sailboat lost its keel and capsized at Möja västerfjärd Saturday, July 30, 2016 A 19-meter long Brenta 60 just north of Tistronskäret, southwest of Möja in the Stockholm archipelago. The boat has a relatively high rig and protrudes deeper than most Scandinavian boats in its size class. None of the four people on board were physically injured. "We were on a counter-course and I had the boat under observation to see how we would meet," says Stefan Tell, who was at the helm of a friend's sailboat on its way to round Tistronskäret on its way from Bullandö to Möja on Saturday. "The wind was with us from the southwest, 4-6 metres per second. We were going to round the shoal north of Tistronskäret and had this sailboat with a black hull to relate to. It was quite an impressive boat, but difficult to judge the distance because it is relatively large. "Suddenly, it heeled from about 20 degrees to 45 degrees. What is he up to? I had time to think and then it went fast and the boat was completely on its side. About half an hour, 45 minutes, after the B60 began to heel more than normal, it had flipped over completely. Stefan's friend alerted the sea rescue at the same time as they approached the accident boat. A couple of other motorboats were also on site and one of them immediately went up to the B60 that was with its sails in the water. "There was no one shouting or waving at us for help, so we waited a bit away. One of the people on board climbed into the cabin and fetched something. Then it was like an instructional video on how to handle an accident like this. The boats around the area raised the alarm and were helpful. A small motorboat went up and took the four crew members on board. The B60 also had a small dinghy that they used. SSRS was in place before the boat turned over completely. From the time the Brent started to tilt more than normal until it was completely upside down, it took between 30 and 45 minutes, says Stefan, who has sailed since childhood and works as a photographer."It was pure walking weather when it happened, but the next day the wind was blowing 7-8 metres per second and on a day like this, an event like this could have ended worse. According to SSRS, no one on board was physically injured and the boat was later marked with red signal lights. The shoal north of Tistronskären is included in the Swedish Maritime Administration's measurements and is marked as 2.2 and 2.8 meters respectively. The accident boat is a Brenta 60, B60, which protrudes 3.3 meters with a lead bulb on a fin keel. The yacht is built at the Knierim shipyard in Kiel and designed by Italian Luca Brenta Yacht Design. The designer is Lorenzo Argento. "It's always a matter of weighing up what should break in an extreme situation," Argento writes in an email interview with På Kryss. "If you collide with, for example, a rock foundation, either parts of the hull are broken by the shock load so that the boat risks sinking, or the keel breaks with the result that the boat sooner or later capsizes." Lorenzo believes that braking is of great importance for the risk of injury: "I myself have seen a 77-footer collide with a rock base south of Corsica. Due to the slow braking process, no one on board was injured. Imagine yourself piloting a boat that goes from ten to zero knots in less than a second. The boat may fare better, but the crew is at risk of being injured all the more." As a designer, the most important thing, according to Lorenzo Argento, is to maximize slow braking, and judging by the eyewitness accounts at Tistronskäret, the process was slow. The lead bulb is completely absent on the B60 Argento learned of the accident on his way home to Italy from Ecuador and has not been in contact with the crew on board or seen close-ups of the damage. He therefore does not want to answer På Kryss's more detailed questions about the construction. "The bulb was probably torn away by the load in the collision with the shoal. The fact that the boat ran aground was obviously due to human error. But the most important thing for me is that no one was hurt. When I know more about the circumstances, I can say more. It's important for me to share the experience of an event like this." The B60, which has its home port in Kiel and is called Minnic, had not yet been salvaged on Tuesday

Well done for highlighting this issue. I have recently visited Phu Quoc and was shocked at what is without being overly dramatic an environmental disaster and fully endorse the comments you make. I toured the whole island on a scooter and saw first hand the awful mess the place is in although did not visit the rubbish/recycling depots. To be honest, i feel guilty for having gone and should have researched more before i did visit, the tourism only exacerbates the problem. The international Hotel Co's and Developers are complicit as well as the Local Authority, unwitting tourists and the local population. The new Pullman development will be the size of a small UK town when it is finished in 2020 and this is just one on the multiple sites under construction that will add to the problems. The rapid and unchecked development of what once must have been a beautiful island is a classic example of chasing tourist revenue without the necessary infrastructure being in place to support the visitor numbers. I met some lovely local people and had some of the most wonderful food i have ever eaten however i think the measure of a place is would you recommend it to a friend or go back, in this case i would discourage anyone from visiting Pho Quoc until the appropriate resources are in place and measures have been made to stop the dreadful destruction and trashing of Pho Quoc.
