My job at the 80" mill was to remove slag built up in the reheat furnaces after they shutdown one at a time for maintance. My sole on my steel toes would melt from the heat evenafter it sat idle fir two days. The deaper we dug the hotter it got. Bust ass job but supervision left me alone. I got a nickname during that time my boss named me "mongrel".

I hired in on zug island, 1st was the sintar plant as a laborer, then to the blast furnace hot and cold side, then spent four years on the ore dock. I know every inch of that shithole.

Lucky the drone can't pick up the stink that eminates from this place. Nasty

It's strange that US Steel closed Zug Island's Hot End given that it's on the Water and has access to Water transportation.

It was a great place until the new owners took it over a couple years before the coof. They let the place fall even further into disrepair and made several blunders with conferences and other things that were contracted to come in that had things in place before the sale happened where the new owners basically just cut them all off out of the blue and demanded more money for the space. Needless to say they lost a lot of that revenue going forward, and with other hotels in the area more welcoming to conferences and other large attendance happenings they just went under. I had heard towards the end the entire place was in a pretty sad state before it finally shuttered permanently.

One of my old high-schools. So eerie to see it like this. I'm sorry to say it (not really) but...Good riddance, I say. During my short time there, I'd always heard great things about the place but I believed then and now that its glory days were long gone by then. Sure, Principal Seifker was a cool cat but he was just one person and there was just far too many shenanigans for even him to be able to save it. To be fair, it was my first foray back into "public" school after being reluctantly yanked out of homeschooling (where I was genuinely thriving academically), so I'll admit my opinions were pre-tainted and I didn't have high expectations in the first place. Still, I bought into the hype (not as much as my parents) and was let down in the end. I'm just relieved those days are over.
