Fiesta ST150 Big Brake Upgrade: ST220 & ST170 Brakes Installed!

Hey All This is one of the first videos I recorded for the Fiesta, after a corrupted SD card lost most of the footage from the second camera I kind of took a step back from it. However, I finally decided to put a video together using the footage I had and I hope it helps some out with getting a big brake kit done on their ST150. The kit comprised of ST220 front calipers, carriers and pads with ...

Both of these tyres are road legal and are rated for dry conditions. unfortunately the MRF lap hit a little traffic b...

Enhance Your Fiesta Mk6's Look With LED Fog Light Upgrade
Thank you for your reply young man, I have a Land Rover Freelander manual drive 2 litre TD4 sedan Estate station wagon 2004 face lift , with diesel pre heater electric heater screen electric heater rear window electric heater wing mirrors and a different drivetrain to the rear axle from the MK1 excellent drive and towing, 116473mls , I believe this was when Ford America had this make of vehicle , and made a lot of upgrades and modifications, and this model was made for cold climate countries. The only thing sometimes happens: at about 70 + mls per hr hesitation and all dial’s dropped out then return to normal😮 and sometimes for no apparent reason black smoke will appear on acceleration but not very often, any suggestions? 😊ps has a good regular service history .
Hi Alex,That looks good and sturdy. But if it was me i would have weld it into place but bolts can and do fall off. Bit close to the shock absorber ((but that's how it looks from this side of the screen.) Anyway it will play the part. Oh yeah happy new year to you and yours
Hey mike, Yh I had thought about welding but I'm likely to have a cage installed at some point and when i do this bar will have to come out. Yh the screen lind of makes them look a little close but they have plenty of clearance and unless the shocks fall off they shouldn't touch 😅 The bolts were put in with captive washers, so if a nut does come undone the washer should hold it. I do weekly nut and bolt checks on most bit of the car anyway and always check before going out on track so the bits shouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon lol Its a great bar and you can definitely feel the difference and I've got plenty more going on soon so should be fun to see the difference
@TrackCraftPerformance great stuff can't wait.
What else would cause drag and power loss 😊
Hey To be fair quite a few things 😅 Anything from leaky hose to transmission failure causing excessive resistance. It's just a tick box exercise to see if you can narrow it down
Thankyou
No trouble 😁👍
A lot easier to just use the st170 discs and carriers callipers are the same as the st170 focus same on the rear
Yh found out after as I had a look over the calipers on the rear. Was happy to do the refresh though as one was original and not working great and the side I had worked on had a refurbed unit in it but again wasn't working fantastically so was happy to get them on there either way 😅 The fronts I didn't mind the work to go up to st220 stuff 😂
Great video bud let me know when we can get out on track!
Cheers 😁 I should be at the summer action day at Combe and will be on track for that. But also planning track day calender at the moment and will hopefully have an update soon 😀
Hi Alex, They look really big disc,s and look very nice. Mike
Hey mike, cheers 😁 yh big 300mm discs, more than I had on the Freelander 😅 certainly stops the car well
@TrackCraftPerformance Hi Alex, oh so you had them on the landy. If you don't mind and I don't like to ask. How much did it cost for the fronts (landy) for everything and what size are they. Only if you don't mind me asking are they vented aswell thanks Mike ps what brand of pads
Hey, no worries at all It's been a while as haven't had the Freelander since last November but I remember it was the drilled and grooved kit from mtec brakes. They did a kit with pads and I went with that. Very good brakes for the landy
@@TrackCraftPerformance was they 300mm
Honestly I can't remember, I think it may have been 280mm on the Freelander. They never had huge brakes on the Freelander so don't think they were massive
Hi Alex, Have a great new year to you and your,s
Ford Fiesta Headlight bulb Type is H4 3 Pin Bulb. I Highly Recommend Buying The Long Life bulbs. i always go for Osram Or Bosch extra long life ultra life
Hi! On idle have you notice any noise or feel a vibration through the seat or steering wheel? Your old worn flywheel it made any vibration on idle?
Hey With the new solid flywheel it actually felt smoother than before. This could be due to the old flywheel being pretty worn, it was rattling and was definitely causing some vibration. After the swap the car felt much nicer to drive. Smoother through the revs and felt easier to control if that makes sense. Had the Freelander for a while after this and did plenty of off roading with no adverse effects of the swap, I believe the solid mass was weighted to match the dual mass. Hope that helps
Happy Christmas Alex 🎉🎉
Merry Christmas Ian 👍
Merry Christmas Alex to you and your family. Mike
Merry Christmas mike, hope you had a good day
*where the red hose from the IRD vent goes. it must not be blocked*
Hey Thanks for the comment. As far as I remember the tube was never blocked on this one? I had the filter on the turbo vent pipe bit but the red one just came up to bulkhead and attached to a bracket. The car was written off last November so it's been a while but from memory I never had anything blocking the vent
Hi Alex, 1st Happy Xmas &prosperous new year. Now what are you going to do with the 3D printer if you rather not say that's OK. Tell me did you get around to doing a gearbox oil n filter change and injector plugs change. On the landy Thanks Alex.
Hey mike, lots of plans with 3d printing. Making final adjustments to the Hyundai bits and video will be out then. Got a few bits in the pipeline for fiesta too. Think I did gearbox on Freelander but can't remember if I did a video 😬 never got around to injectors unfortunately, it was on the books until it was written off
@TrackCraftPerformance ok. All the best for new year
Is this an H4 or H7 bulb please ?
Hey, H4 sorry. Forgot to put that 😓
@TrackCraftPerformance - nice one. Video is useful. :) I have to swap over the nsf bulb. Hopefully i wont need to remove headlamp assembly, as the access looks much better on the nearside (1.25 zetec 07 plate).
Glad you liked the video 😁 yh the nearside does get a lore access which is useful. Almost impossible on the offside with the st as it's all cramped in in that side
that one coming of the vacuum pipe at the back on the left hand side of the engine must go onto the back of the vacuum chamber and then the one that comes of the front of the vacuum chamber should go over the engine and down to the vacuum actuator on the turbo this is what Landrover say
Hey, thanks for the comment. All lines were plugged in back to where they went and came from. It's been a while since I watched this one back but the only line slightly altered was the line that ran over the engine and back down to the solenoid unit. I rerouted it to go to the back of the engine which shortened it by a fair bit and kept it away from the top where they wear often. No issues with driving or reliability after relocation so assume all was good. Car was written off last year so unfortunately can't quickly dive back in and show via new video 😢
So you didn't attempt to put the LEDs in it so the blades are vertical and the beam pattern was still okay? I notice the one that you showed is at a 1-2 o clock orentiation.
Hey, sorry not sure what you mean? Both went in with the led vertical, so I guess with the LEDs being either side the lights themselves would be at 3 & 9 if that makes sense but this is how we were told to install them. Beam pattern has been fine for 2 MOT's using these now so no issues at the moment and still in the car now Hope that helps
Removing the MAF sensor from it's body will void your warranty, from the company you purchased it from so be careful, not that much work to remove the whole body to be honest, security torx are 5 star, ordinary torx are 6 star, seeing you have removed the MAF sensor you are just as well adding posidrive screws stainless steel. what colour was the smoke you had with faulty MAF. Ron boxes damage the high pressure fuel pump over time so avoid the Ron box synergy.
Hey, I did check before hand with the company I got the MAF from and they said they were happy for to use just the sensor itself, but to keep the original housing. I had noticed the 5 and 6 head bit after, just one of those things I never paid attention to until about 6 months later 😅 Had black smoke out the back of the Freelander, was very sooty. Went away straight after, and engine ran far better, was almost in a limp like state before hand
Great would try on my car with the same model
Glad you liked the video, best of luck with the oil change 👍
How much front camber are you running?
Currently stock, however I do have plans to change that ahead of next season for some of the events that I'll hopefully be taking part in 👍
@TrackCraftPerformance nice. Do you ha e the part numbers for what you used? I went in the page, but doesn't seem to be the same as what you have got?
Hey Yh sure it was a combination of these two: Camber: www.satchellengineering.co.uk/product/fiesta-st150-camber-shims/ Toe: www.satchellengineering.co.uk/product/fiesta-st150-toe-shims/ I had the 1 degree and 30 minutes for camber and toe respectively. Hope that helps 👍 Could also drop them a quick message to them and speak to Tony, really helpful chap and will definitely help sort you out with what you need 👍
@@TrackCraftPerformance cheers mate
Thanks for the video. I've seen a few because I have to replace my leaking gear selector seal. Some people have said that the bolt you call the drain plug is NOT a drain plug. It has a ball bearing on the end of the plug/bolt that sits in a corresponding grove which is part of the gear box. Apparently if you accidentally move the gear selector without that bolt being in place you basically have to dismantle the gear box to fix it😬. Not sure how true that is. Knowing how clumsy I am🤪, I think I'll use the fill plug and just top up my oil or use a oil transfer pump.
Hey, thanks for the comment. It may well have a ball bearing but I couldn't see anything when in there. The manual I had listed it as a drain plug and instructed to undo it to drain, as well as a few technical documents on forums etc I can only go by then really, short of stripping it all down myself to look, but don't much fancy that 🤣 The cars had no issues since and gearbox still silky smooth so happy with result I don't doubt what you say, thankfully nothing was knocked when working so maybe saved myself there 😅
@@TrackCraftPerformance he's right, the ford ib5 transmissions don't have a drain plug at all, this transmission is filled for life from the factory, the tech manuals state that fluid should be drained by removing the gearbox and drain it via the driveshaft hole, or to empty the gearbox with a suction pipe, if you do it via this hole, not everything will be drained, that bolt is for the selector shaft interlock mechanism, it has a ball detent on the end and should be sealed with thread sealer aswell when placed back, also it depends on the car on how to fill it, on some cars the gearbox needs to be filled via the breather hole on top, because the fluid goes above the height of the filling hole, and in other cars it needs to be filled 5 to 10mm below that filling hole.
@@osmium_fps6082 hi man can u help me, my filler plug is sheered i have no way of removojg it how do i top the gearbox oil up via the breather.
Greetings from Spain!! I have followed your videos to do maintenance on my freelander, I hope that at some point you will be encouraged and buy another unit again, it is the best content that exists about this vehicle.
Hey, thanks really appreciated that. Glad the videos have been of help 😁 no plans for a new one yet but I won't be away from land rover forever 👍
Thanks, this a great help ,very clear instructions,i hadn't done my Freelander 1 myself yet and lsst time was two years ago at the garage ,one question ,can i use a cleaner fluid ,i do it with my corsa and run it for 15 mins first to let it clean around the engine then drain the oil
Hey, glad you liked the video 😁👍 Yes a flush is fine for these engines. I usually use a proper flush oil and then drain for the proper stuff, either that or for many years I dunno sone seafoam in the oil about a week before the change and that does very good as well Hope that helps 👍
@@TrackCraftPerformance hi mate thanks ,that's very helpful ,really appreciate it ,I'll get it sorted this weekend
Hi,Alex Do you use cutting discs on your angle grinder. If so what brand name I'm trying to find a good name brand. I know that's a lot to ask because there's loads out there. I only seem to get the crap ones. Bye the way love the car dressed up what a brilliant job you have done. Anyway thanks for your help. Mike storey from beeford
Hey mike, thanks it's taken a while but yh really happy with how it's starting to look. All my cutting discs I got from APD, you'd have to speak to Ed there as he's the one that sourced them for me. They seem to be good as we've cut through some pretty heavy duty steel with them etc 01793 839919 Ask to speak to Ed and hopefully if he's free he can help out

Haha cheers bud 😁💪
Hey ! Thanks for the tuto, I do have a question though. When I dit it on my car, it was lacking a lot of oil, I only took of about 600ml (the last owner was pretty dumb). Because I'm not sure I'm asking, is it like an overflow level ? If oil start dripping by the filler plug, does that mean that the level is good ? Thanks for the answer :)
Generally yes, if the car is level you can in most cases fill until it just reaches the full plug. When I did mine and put the amount it stated it was right to the top and that was after a full drain. I'd say they didn't fill correctly if it was that low, very unlikely it would leak to that unless the drain or fill bolt weren't currently tightened but you'd see oil everywhere in that case. My guess would be either didn't care or car wasn't level when they filled.
@@TrackCraftPerformance thanks for the answer !!! Yeah thats what i thought, it was like this on my other car, but i did not find any information about the IB5 ahah! And yeah no leaks, just poor maintenance from the previous owner :/ See ya :)
depends on the car, on some cars it needs to be filled above the height of the filler hole via the breather plug, and on other cars it needs to be filled 5 to 10mm below the filler plug.
what are the problems that occur when your mounts are worn? how would you know its time to change them?
Hey Most common are a knocking noise when pulling away or stopping. Also sometimes under hard acceleration 👍 Generally if you can shake the rear diff and move it about they are well and truly gone, needs to be very firmly in there
@@TrackCraftPerformance thanks mate

Hi Alex do you know were the fuse is for rear door window on the landy it went down that's all all doors work fine just the rear won't
Hey mike Can't remember off the top of my head but that did happen to me a few times and it just needed resetting. Unplugged battery, waited about 5 mins and plugged back in again. Hey mike, Thanks for the comment 🙂 The other side actually looks like it's been replaced already and is far newer and better condition than the passenger side. Your video is very helpful, thank you! I have to press the brake pedal a lot (like halfway) before the light comes on. Is the switch adjustable? Thanks
Hey, glad you liked the video 😁👍 The button should react as soon as you begin to push it in and activate. As far as I know they are not adjustable, they are a sealed unit and typically only respond in one way. Hope that helps
Hi Alex, if it was me doing the oil change. I would have made a gully by cutting a plastic milk container down the length of it to fit under the plug.
Haha yh I did think about it, instead of taking the plastic trim bit off. But to be fair it came off a lot easier than expected and the bolts didn't snap 😅 once off it poured pretty well and only a tiny bit leaked back into box but that was easily cleaned off to be fair. Normally use a split bottle for pouring oil back in to engine 😅 easy, cheap funnels 😂
@@TrackCraftPerformance 👍👍👍
I want to try this!
It was a fantastic course and 100% worth doing. The Freelander did great as well and definitely surprised me with what it could do. Shame I didn't get another chance before it was written off 😞
Private conversations on cb radio 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's the biggest laugh I've had in weeks. It's an open public frequency. Just like using a video camera in a public place. There is no such thing as privacy on CB radio unless you use a legitimate scrambling device that must be law be type approved. Oh and guess what??? That can easily be decoded by anyone with the same kind of equipment so. No,,,, absolutely no privacy.
Hey,sorry been a while since I recorded this one so can't remember everything said 😅 I know cb are not private and on an open air. I think I remember not putting up the recording of me driving home as people were talking and they may not want me plastering it on UA-cam (especially with the language 😂) And yes I know cb can be tracked, in face I've watched people do it but didn't think to mention it in the video. I will say I am in no way an expert or even moderately acquainted with radio transmission expertise, just copied what I had seen a lot of people do when they got their radios and had good results so up high on the car and central. Seemed to get good results and in the following months got pretty used to using it and twerking the settings for some good range 😁👍
WoW !!! You managed to prove that you know nothing about radio. There is a very good reason that aerials are put in the middle of the panel. The same reason that you hardly ever see wing/side panel mount aerials anymore.😕🤬🤐
Hey yh sorry I'm not expert, infant this was the first time I'd ever used/installed my own CB. I just copied what I'd seen get good results in cars I'd been in so had the antenna up nice and high on the roof and mounted it central. That was the only advice I was given really. Got used to it slowly over time and got some good results with it whilst exploring so was happy with it on the Freelander. Unfortunately Freelander was written off before I could do some of the proper treks I had planned so never got to test it fully out in the back and beyond but did some good trips around Wales and Salisbury 👍
