Falkland Islands quest for Penguins & Albatrosses on Saunders Island.
An adventure in search of epic southern seabirds breeding on Saunders Island. A short trip with my dad and friends took us to this beautiful and remote part of the world. A very windy little Britain with some astonishing seabirds.

Scarlet Tanager feeding on the beach
Переглядів 193Рік тому
A beautiful male Scarlet Tanager feeds on the beach on the very tip of Long Point Lake Erie. Like the orioles and kingbirds around him they have all just arrived on the spring migration. The strong cold north winds makes finding food hard work in the trees, so the birds switch the the sheltered side of the beach to find insects. Taken May 2019

Swarovski Optik dG review #digitalguide and Merlin Photo ID app
Переглядів 4,3 тис.4 роки тому
I have had the pleasure of testing Swarovski Optik's new dG with my family here in Canada. A monocular with a built in camera and WiFi, it sends images taken directly to your phone or tablet. Once there, users can go directly to the Merlin Photo ID app, where the app is able to very quickly analyze the image and identify the bird. I tested it out with my children in the field - well, lake shore...

Hi James, What a fantastic trip. Great video and stills. Some great close up captures showing lots of detail. Thanks very much for posting. I'm quite envious, but will have to make do with Slimbridge. 😜
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video and photographs. Always something good to see at Slimbridge.
Fascinating
Glad you enjoyed thanks.
We've visited Saunders twice and seen all of those bird species. It is a magical place. David and Suzan Pole-Evans are lovely hosts and will provide rides to The Neck and The Rookery. On our first visit we stayed for three nights at The Rookery, which is very close to the Albatross colony on the cliffs and a short walk to a Rockhopper colony. On our second visit we stayed in the old stone house in the settlement; from there Suzan drove us out to The Neck picking us up again several hours later. That's where we saw King penguins and a whole host of other penguins. Amazing!
It is certainly an amazing place with wonderful people and wildlife.
watching this love dance right now in Laurelhurst park, Portland, Oregon
Watching the exact same dance above my hammock in south central Kentucky
Took me a while to realise it's a Swarovski Ad' !
I never realized that from the front and slightly below, the male's mustache stripe and black "necklace" make an eerie smily-face =D

Hi James, may I use this footage in a film project I'm working on? I can offer a small honorarium.
Obama is the best president I like to see him traveling
Обалдений улов! На что снимаете если не секрет?
Thanks very much on this wonderful birding trip. Would love to go there, although it’s a bit further down on my bird location bucket list. Ty.
These are two male flickers (females don't have the black mustache) so this more of a territorial duel than courtship though courtship behavior is similar.
ALMOST A DUEL!
I love listening to these little fellers at night in the summer

Thank you for sharing this very very nice view of the former President Obama and different aircraft of the Presidential Fleet. Former President Obama was here in Chicago today this Tuesday visiting kids involved with music.
I really enjoy hearing these little guys every spring. Such a wonderful sound to fall asleep to. They truly are wonderful musicians. 😊
That is one beautiful owl ❤ Great camerman❤
I remember this one time I was walking around the jacque cartier beach near my hometown on a coastal area of the saint-lawrence river and I happened upon a tiny preserved wet-land type spot recently rehabilitated from a spot that used to be a snow dumping ground. All just after the sun had set and the dim glow of the sun only peered from the horizon. It had peepers peeping, I tried to mimic their call with word-like onomatopea, they all stopped and probably judged me to be an unpeeperish threat and all stayed silent. Then I started doing a rythmic whistle like they were calling and they all started peeping back together at me at the same rythm. Love these tiny debuggers.
Bit blowy there James! What a great and colourful family the Tanagers are. Saw several different species on a Brazil trip I did a few years ago 👍

Это обалденно. Спасибо!
I saw (and heard) this kind of display a decade before UA-cam, really thought I'd had an acid flashback.
Hello James. I have seen these beautiful images along with the other videos that you have uploaded to your channel. My partner and I are making a series of documentaries about the Birds of Mexico. Our social work with the communities has been interrupted by the covid issue and we are focusing on creating audiovisual material. Perhaps you would like to collaborate with this courtship sequence by obviously giving yourself the credits. I am attaching the chapter on Icteridae so that you can see the work and in the channel you will be able to see our workshops with communities. Congratulations on your channel and we look forward to your response. Kind regards from Mexico. ua-cam.com/video/dFageTGNiCM/v-deo.html
Hello! Thank you for showing us the wonderful coyote hunting! It is wonderful! I really enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing!
There is a beautiful small short eared owl in Russia named Fenya, recently released back. I hope she survives. I feel better about it seeing owls like this ( looks almost like her ) thriving, living as they do. Thanks!
So good to watch such a wondrous creature without human commentary or comment!!! Fab!! Thank you 👌
Is this Hunter Biden?
Thank you for sharing this! I’m curious, if the relaxing down/closing their eyes intermittently & blinking slower is part of showing vulnerability to enhance courtship?
Um, showing SOMETHING.
Wolf Cool
They sound sort of like guinea pigs while they're doing this :3
Terrific video. Also, great shot of the Pileated ( also my favorite) in your other video. I must have the same look on my face when I hear their prehistoric sounding call in my neighborhood
Beautiful. How you get these superb shots I don't know but I'm certainly enjoying them.
Very nice. Your cinematography is amazing. It's been way too long since I've been to Long Point.
Great video of these turtles. I haven't seen a Blanding's or Spotted in a very long time. Probably since I was last at Long Point or Rondeau. Really beautiful cinematography.
Beautiful video of this magnificent bird. Spent many a night in Haliburton listening to "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all" and the laughing cackles of this owl.
Wow, that's a great closeup video. Spring Peepers, the sound of an Ontario evening.
