Hey y'all, welcome to Hazzard County! On this channel, you'll find videos of fire apparatus, lights, sirens, trucks, trains, radio stuff, and whatever else pops in my Monster-fueled bowl of pudding. Uploads are infrequent, but they do still happen, so sit back and enjoy!
The Great Birthday Chase! NYSW SY42 10/13/24
Well, that ain't something you see every day!
Years ago, I caught a certain flared carbody sitting outside Bingo out of service and vowed I'd catch it on the road one day. Fast forward to Sunday, I'm sitting at the CSX DeWitt yard, and I heard some chatter on the Susie Q channels while working on a radio project. After a quick recon over to the Geddes yard, our star was found burbling away and waiting for orders south...and the chase was on!

Ain't duck duck goose, it's Geep Geep MAC...sort of! A rebuilt SD70MAC leads two standard-cab GP40 variants and a GE DPU east towards Syracuse on this refreshing spring evening. I did not get a chance to get cab numbers, but I want to say this is a newer rebuild (4700-series cab). Pretty hefty manifest at 564 total axles!
Patriot Build! Whelen LFL Patriot

The original LFL platform, with strobe goodness! I paid 40 bucks for this thing back in September, originally planning to do a quick flip, but the parts list was, as the saying goes, "long and distinguished." Both the buyer and I agreed it wasn't worth it to them, so into the long-term project pile it went. So far, I haven't done a whole lot other than gut some Chineseum LEDs out of the front a...

An old friend returns to the Water Level! As we were finishing up a short chase of M627 (video forthcoming), Matt and I heard M634 clear QC294 with 8882 leading. We were speechless...a standard cab EMD leading? Pinch us, we're dreaming! I can finally check this one off the bucket list! Our friend 8882 started life in 1971 as Penn Central SD40 6271. In 1976, she became Conrail 6271, and led a re...

CSX 4589 (SD70MAC) leads a short 72 axle I009 west through Jordan. 4589 was originally built as Conrail 4144, then went to CSX after the 1999 split. It previously was the "Spirit of Nashville" unit.

And we're doing trains again! But why? Because you don't see a CN SD75I coming through Syracuse every day, that's why! Got a tip that this was coming through on its way to Philly at about 1am, woke up to find it had barely cleared the Fairport cam at 12:26pm, and had more than enough time to set up at Memphis to catch it.

Local Edge9000 Mini-Update!
Переглядів 1542 роки тому
I'm back folks! Pulled the locally grown Edge out for a little TLC today, this thing is a lot nastier than I had originally anticipated but I still think it's gonna turn out great. I replaced the finicky passenger side inboard strobe and was able to determine that this bar is most likely a first generation model, manufactured somewhere between 1989 and 1992. Next stop, cleaning!

World, meet the future UltimateMX! This humble 58" 6 standard rotator bar was purchased from an ambulance corps outside of Binghamton NY originally to replace an XL5000 I built at the race track. Since I no longer work for the track, this bar has sat at the bottom of the pile (literally...there were 6 other bars on top) for the better part of two years. I'm finally dragging it out and starting ...
Can't Stop the Chop! Whelen Liberty II LC "ChopShop"

The ChopShop lives! After several unsuccessful attempts to sell this bar, I decided to keep it as a project. The long term plan is to do a full swap to WeCan control, but it'll be set as-is for a Jeep of some sort. It's still missing the "F" harness for the takedown controls, but all functions work otherwise. Enjoy! Patterns seen: Warning- SignalAlert 75 Directional- Single head / Triple Flash

i like to buy it how much for it
For three phase, look for three powerlines connecting to the siren its self.
I like that little lightbar in the front
The silver version is from the 80s and late 90s
If you want to get some real neat sounds, put the selector between wail and Yelp (will take some practice), and you'll get the Blues Brother chase scene siren. Also Yelp tp Hi-low has a weird sound
You forgot to do the wail/yelp and yelp/Hi Low bridging
How do you get the take downs to flash? I have a Whelen LFL edge all amber
According to the wiring diagram, the white/yellow trace and white/green trace wires control the flashing TD and alleys. Your results may vary, just because as I've found with this one, not all functions can be present (ex. I don't have arrow functions on mine, others do).
This pa300s siren tones kinda sound like a Chinese siren.
Yeah, the later all black 300s definitely didn't sound as good as the earlier ones. IIRC, these were right before they started doing the red "300" labeling, and the official descent into mediocrity.
@@ryanhealy3074before these ones, there were models of this pa300 that sound good. Like that slow rising and descending wail from the old pa300s. Along with the slower Yelp and the well-known Pa300 Hi-Lo.
@@ryanhealy3074oh, anyway this should be the point the FS workers were dumb.
LAPD, please pull to the right and stop
“Wheel-in” not “way-len. Whelen.
You say tomato, I say tomato...all depends on regional dialect I guess.
They used that siren in earlier Stone Cold Steve Austin entrance themes
And that same stock sound but was used in the movie "Twister" As i'm sure it was with various other productions
Oh yeah, the 300 was/remains one of the de facto choices for Hollywood sound guys because it's such an iconic sound.
How do you make this pattern? I’ve got a legacy bar, and I want to program it on Command.
The pattern itself is Signal Alert 75, but it's not fully synchronized. Each pair of heads flash in their own phase offset (corners are 0, first inboards are delayed 10', second is 20', etc).
Our State Police Vehicles here in New Hampshire used to have these types of Blue Lightbars on their vehicles back in the early to mid 1990s, they use Blue/White LED's now.
A friend of mine who is a Volunteer Firefighter here in New Hampshire has a similar type of lightbar in Red & White for his Fire POV.
Great catch!
Nice video
Thank you!
Is this pattern programmed, or no?
Define programmed. The LC bars have a predetermined pattern list for both synchronized (full bar) and unsynchronized (individual lighthead pairs) operation. This specific one is the "default" pattern (Signal Alert 75) that most people leave alone unless they want a specific look. WeCan (WC) bars have a bit more play to them, since you can change the patterns, phasing, offset, and intensity all through a computer.
Best wail
Nice!
got the same lightbar, but having some trouble getting it powered up.... i don't have the control box, can't this just be direct wired to the battery
For testing purposes, yes. That's how I did it in this video. The only one I have on a switch box currently (besides vehicle installations) is an Edge 9404 on display that could pass for an OSP-style bar minus the clear kicker panels.
Wonderful ...how much is that?
Surprisingly quiet, I’ve heard so annoying loud ones. Must be how the power supply is hooked in
I know what you mean, I honestly think it boils down to individual supplies. I had a doubleflash kit on an old engine that you could hear above the exhaust, and I've seen brand new Edge 9M or 9U bars that are just as obnoxious.
Hey Ryan, I have a wheelen edge 9000 smooth top, not sure where to start as far as wiring, so any tips would be great.
Smooth top Edge, you say? Best suggestion I have is put black to ground and positive to everything else. Brown wires/traces are typically for the speaker hookups on those, but there's no guarantee you even have the original harness the bar came with.
Hi I had a question for you.😊 I have a Motorola Astra saber 3. And I had analog programmed into and the audio is very low and a bit distorted is that normal or could there be something wrong with the radio. I just subscribed I'll check out some of your videos they look interesting
You might want to check and see if your radio is programmed in narrowband mode (12.5kHz spacing), and the audio you're attempting to receive is in wideband (25kHz).
I had it done by a guy on eBay and when he sent it back he he didn't say nothing about the programming at all . But let me tell you it's really distorted and in order to actually hear it you almost got to crank the volume all the way up . But yeah I'll ask the guy that programmed it thank you 🤠
So what mode do you think it should be in . I'm just still kind of learning. If you don't mind me asking weather should be in narrowband or should it be in wide band at 12.5 k ? . Like I said I'm just still kind of learning about this radio hobby I think they're really cool unique radios I got two of them one is a saber securenet and the other one's a Motorola Astra saber 3
Twin fords🤣🤞🏾
Could even be the same, I traded this one in back in 2017 and it was auctioned off. Could be scrap metal by now but who knows!
Ive been looking for a amber Tomar 930N lightbar. Any recommendations on where to find one?
You could try the forums on elightbars.com. Unfortunately, most people end up parting out 930s/950s because they weigh so much, it's impractical to ship them.
Brings back some memories
Nice !
Sehr schöner Balken, es gibt nichts schöneres wie die gute alte Doppelblitz Technik. Schönstes Blitzmuster. Grüße aus Deutschland
0:52 FDNY doesn’t have this
@BlackieFoxxlessI mean they don’t have Hi-Lo siren
Correct, they FDNY-spec ones have the hi-lo disabled, in addition to red backlighting instead of green
It has two sirens
So at the time of filming this, only the black one was "in service." I've since swapped it out for another silver PA300 (I'm also not a member at that company anymore).
Unless you can fine somebody who can restore old school emergency lightbars to make it look better but other than that great video
Or 5bt?
I believe that's what this is. 5As were all 3 phase if memory serves me correctly.
That’s great! They don’t make them like they used to.
Does anybody know what exact PA300 siren it is? Cause Ik there’s different PA300 sirens cause they sound different? I’m trying to use this siren for a GTA mod so any information would be helpful. Thanks
I'm not 100% sure on the exact model, but for a GTA siren I would recommend using tones from the old "silver face" model, as those are much easier to identify (there's two additional videos of them on my channel alone with the same acoustics)
@@ryanhealy3074 Ahh alright. Thanks
@@ryanhealy3074 The only siren I found that was somewhat similar was this one: ua-cam.com/video/xFkyzRVf-D0/v-deo.html. I found this one a long time ago but I was hoping to still find this exact siren
@@nickalvizo here's a really good recording of a silver one from the '80s (I'd use it over mine for a looped recording). ua-cam.com/video/B_1f_4nEDCE/v-deo.html This model was immortalized by the original Backdraft movie, as it was what they used for the audio overlay as well as the physical "prop" in the rigs. The later "red 300" and current-production "PA300 Series" just don't have the long wail tone like this and sound too cheap and knockoff-ish.
Is this for sale?
Nope. This one in particular is currently installed in our reserve engine. If/when the rig goes down the road, it's coming back to the vault and something else will get swapped in.
Oh god that sounds beautiful
Sale?
Probably $700 plus shipping. It's not 100% service ready but what it does need (top screws and interior clips) is minimal.
How much you want for it ?
Probably $700 plus shipping. It is still a fixer but it's very minimal...top screws and some interior clips.
Nice, I prefer Federal Signal Pa 300 Silverface, I got my piece few days ago. I recorded it and i am adding to my Turn Sirens channel ;) Check it
NOOOOOOOOOO bring back the v-con screw that federal signal
Pa300 is so much better then the VCON lol
He literally said the VCON was having issues in the video
@@hagerstownredline5274Yes, BUT I think he means the SOUND of the PA300 siren. We all know that old PA300 siren with the slow siren tones (Ex: the famous pa300 slow rising and descending wail tone and the slow Yelp) but the pa300 mentioned on the video is the same model that has the slow siren tones but this one has the "Chinese" styled siren tones (like CJB sirens). Also, if real, he may not like the sound of the "Chinese" styled pa300 siren tones.
@@vidaderafaelveggioriginal idk what your on about, no pa300 series siren sounds like a Chinese siren, I would say that vcons sound Chinese if anything
@@hagerstownredline5274 wh- THE PA300 ON THE VIDEO SOUNDS LIKE A CHINSE SIREN! A CJB SIREN!
Reminds me of a 90’s California Highway Patrol siren.
IIRC, CHP used to use the Siracom 2 system prior to going to the Vision platform. PA2100s (Siracom 2) used the same siren guts as this generation of PA300
Any idea who she served with? Tomar was not really popular in Massachusetts except for a few small towns!
Not even the slightest...the lens pattern does seem pretty unique and similar to other MA law agencies though.
Esa cuanto vale
Wait it was changed to 302.5 instead of 302.6, isn't that a malfunction?
Not a malfunction. This was taken in 2017 before they remapped the EDD to 302.6 (still had my F150, but it was after May when I got the radio installed). Wasn't much longer after this that they changed it though.
How much sarina
Just curious, Had you tried WD40 to loosen up the rotators and make them quit skipping?
Couple times. I greased the idler gear posts but never disassembled the reflector gears, and those seem to be where the problem is. I'll get to it eventually but she's safely stored for now.
What’s the light bulb number
The OEM bulbs are HB5s. I don't recall what the Lasfit equivalent I used was.
