Propagating Pastazanum (I think...)
Join us as we propagate our BEAUTIFUL Philodendron Pastazanum. Comment below if you have corrections, questions, or better ideas! We love to learn!
UPDATE: These babies are all still looking happy and healthy with new root growth on each on of them. Still awaiting leaf bud on the 'knuckle'.

Treating a Bird of Paradise and an Elephant Ear with Neem Oil to rid them of mealy bug and scale infestation.
Hi
miss, u should use fancy pot for that majestic thai constellation :)
Wow that is a monster!!!! So beautiful 🍀💛🫶
No more post from you guys 😢 This was your last video. I wish you guys would come back and try it again! Give us an update.
If I take just a part of the root without any leaves, it will work?
Do you just leave the solution on there and not rinse it off?
Wow , absolutely gorgeous plant , I expect it’s going to o be alright .
I love this Philo, you should show us an update on your propagations, hope you all doing well, take care
Any updates, on any additional Thai constellation babies that the cuttings produced? Would love to see them, take care
Do you keep the plant moist or allow it to dry out?
It's a philodendron Dean McDowall for sure cuz of the new shoot/leaf coming are red. Pastazum are either green or gold-ish green
That’s what I was thinking too!!
You have to add the dish soap to get the neem oil to mix with the water because water and oil...dont mix....
Wait…. I started with that same spray bottle and ended up getting the same neem oil bliss.
Do you rinse your plants after using neem?
This is mcdowell, i think
That’s a McDowell cause the growth points, or also known as cataphylls, have that red color but yet the leaves does not look waxy like a Pastazanum. A Pastazanum have a yellowish green growth point (cataphyll) and not red. The texture of the leaves of that plant is reminiscent of Gloriousum but not as velvety as a Gloriosum. A McDowell is a cross of Pastazanum and Gloriosum, so in my honest opinion you have there a beautiful McDowell 🤙🏽
I think it’s Dean Mcdowell.
hi, any updates?
I love you’re videos! I wish I was lucky enough to have a plant or cutting like this! It’s a dream of mine
This is not a Pastazanum it is a Dean McDowell a variation of Pastazanum. Dean Mc has a more wavey leaf surface while Pastazanum is flatter. Dean Mc’s new leaf and petioles are pinkish in colour while Pastazanum is green. Dean mac’s secondary veins are more obvious than Pastazanum.
It looks like a McDowell. Beautiful
Can share the result? Need to know if cutting the aerial roots works.
Hi do you sell these? Thank you so much.
From thaiLand fc
I’ll buy that top cutting ✋🏿
Thank you for a lovely video. I was putting off repotting my philodendron pastazanum but this has given me the push I needed to just get on and do it.
I got 1 leaf cutting before and the leaf decided to yellow and die. Now i only left with wet stick. I don’t even know if it goin to grow 😭 i never seen how pastazanum grow and which the node. i spent 20€ for it. I feel rip off 😭
i usually cut the areal roots to 1 inch and propagate in water. works every time
Any updates?
Hey! Hows it looking these days?? I agree, messing with these plants are so stressful. I've always propagated these in water or sphag or perlite, never just straight into dirt! Super curious how this one turned out. Make some more videos :) Cheers!
Definitely shouldn’t cut the Ariel roots, you should try water propagating them to get a network of more fibrous roots for when you repot.
I dont think the plant survived, looking at how big the plant i, with minimal roots I dont think it was a smart move to cut of the big aerial roots.
which method is better and faster in term of growth(based on your experience), water propagation or in soil?
How did this propagation work in soil?
It could be a Dean McDowell? Main differences between that and the pastazanum are the new leaf blades emerge with a pinkish hue, the mid vein and primary lateral veins and the back side of the leaf is also pinkish. Also, once the leaf has hardened, the second lateral veins become more visible and the leaf blade appears slightly quilted. New pastazanum leaves emerge as a more golden green as well as the mid veins and primary veins. The hardened leaf won’t have very visible secondary lateral veins and the leaf appear flat. I have photos also to help differentiate. Hope that helps though.
How about the cataphyll ? I read that pastazanum has a green and mcdowel more like red, please help their differences are so close 😅
Binsar Ferdinand The cataphylls on mine are red and there’s even a little bit of red on the petiole where it meets the node. I don’t have a pastazanum but going from photos I’ve seen they have red cataphylls also.
P.pastazanum have green cataphyll. P. Dean McDowell have red-pinkish cataphyll which they got from P.gloriosum, since P.Dean McDowell is hybrid between pastazanum and gloriosum.
How is it doing after 3 months?
if is no much to ask from what Nursery u guys get this beautiful monstera thai
Believe it or not, I just learned a lot. Bonus: You're really funny, Heidi.
Not Philodendron 'Dean McDowell' (pastazanum × gloriosum)?
Great advice!!!! Love all your plants!!!!
Ha! You crack me up... "that was graphic" 😂❤ LOVING these videos!!! This monstera is my absolute favorite! Thann you for posting this!!!
Yay!!! I'm so glad you're on here to teach me about plants!!! Love it!!!
Great video. Looking forward to more content
So, I followed your advice and it worked well. Thanks.
how to have a pastazanum in my garden ?.
I have 1 Pastazanum in LECA and the roots are taking off faster than the ones in soil.
It’s a pastazanum ☺️ I have 3 Pastazanums right now and I love them ☺️
Do yours like to stay moist or dry out? I have mine in a self watering pot in pon.
