Living a Great Life After Divorce, Being Present, and Co-Regulating During Conflict Resolution
Divorce can be a traumatic experience that leaves individuals feeling broken, but it doesn't have to be this way. In the Rocking Life Podcast, Kirsty shared her personal experience of going through a divorce, which was the most challenging period of her life. However, she managed to rise above it and live her best life. Tiercy's story is a great example of how to live an amazing life after divorce. This article will explore this, being present and co-regulating during conflict resolution.
Living an Amazing Life after Divorce
Tiercy aims to help people realize they can still have an amazing life after a divorce. According to Tiercy, living an amazing life after divorce is a matter of choice. It's not about what you eat, wear, or where you work, but it's more about your attitude and mindset. Kirsty reframed her thinking and refused to sit in suffering because she didn't want to ruminate in a downward spiral. She recognized that the divorce had happened and decided to move on, accepting the reality of the situation. Kirsty's advice is to reframe your thinking and take control of your attitude toward life.
Practicing Being Present
Being present is a skill that many people struggle to master. It is a process of focusing on the present moment, being aware of your surroundings, and letting go of past regrets and future worries. In a six-week training program, participants can learn how to practice being present through various exercises.
Like any skill, being present takes practice. Participants are encouraged to practice being present three or four times a day for a few minutes at a time. This practice helps individuals click out of business, fears, depression, or other thoughts and focus on the present moment. Breathing exercises are an effective way to achieve this, or individuals can take time to appreciate their surroundings, such as smelling flowers during a walk or enjoying nature.
Being present has numerous benefits, including better relationships. People who are present and actively listen to others are more likely to form deeper connections. Additionally, being present helps individuals let go of distractions like phones and focus on the present moment. This skill is especially important in dating and other social interactions.
Co-Regulating During Conflict Resolution
Conflict resolution is an essential aspect of any healthy relationship. When conflicts arise, co-regulation is crucial in resolving them. Co-regulation is the ability of individuals to calm themselves during a conflict and help their partner do the same. It's the opposite of escalation, where each partner tries to outdo the other in anger and hostility. When couples co-regulate, they create a safe space where both partners can express their feelings and needs without fear of retaliation.
When co-regulating, individuals must focus on their partner's perspective and listen actively. It's essential to identify the feelings and needs of each partner and find a solution that meets both partners' needs. In conflict resolution, it's crucial to recognize that the relationship is more important than the problem. Therefore, couples need to focus on finding solutions that maintain the integrity of the relationship while addressing the conflict.
In conclusion, living an amazing life after divorce is a matter of choice. Reframe your thinking and take control of your attitude towards life. Being present is a skill that needs practice, and it can help individuals let go of past regrets and future worries, form deeper connections with others, and be more focused on the present moment. Conflict resolution is an essential aspect of any healthy relationship. Co-regulation during conflict resolution helps create a safe space where both partners can express their feelings and needs without fear of retaliation. Remember that every relationship has its ups and downs, and conflicts are natural. However, how partners navigate those conflicts can make or break the relationship. Co-regulation is a powerful tool to help couples overcome conflicts and build a deeper, more meaningful connection. It requires patience, empathy, and a willingness to listen to each other's perspectives. By working together and supporting each other through the ups and downs of life, couples can create a strong foundation for a happy and healthy relationship.
