Join me as we learn about the different parts of the of the railway from the modern day loco's to the heritage steam engines and everything inbetween.
The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway
Join me on a trip along Churnet Valley Railway, situated in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, the journey began at Froghall station. We were pulled behind locomotive 6046 as the only engine in traffic on the day.
This video documents the entire journey narrated by me, I am sorry for any mispronunciations.

Nice to see someone pay some attention to the railway, despite the mispronunciation of the place names
Thank you for your comment, I tried my best with the places, one of my weaknesses. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Hi Rich. You did't say why you added a second layer onto which you would construct your layout. I didn't notice any possible reason from the AnyRail design. You didn't mention whether you would be using turnout motors or "the hand of God" to open/close the turnouts. If using motors, you didn't mention whether the crossbrace would interfere with the placing of them. Nevertheless, I wish you luck with the build and look forward to following your progress.
Hey Paul, The reason for the extra layer on top is because I dont have the skills to make another table. For the turnouts when I recorded this I hadn't actually decided on that but for now I am going to just use my hands to change the points - additionally the crossbrace has now been removed as it was causing me a pain with wiring. Cheers Rich
Did the same on the rear coach, travelled on the outside balcony. Absolutely brilliant.
Was a real delight. I loved it and would totally recommend
When i took a trip on the welshpool railway i was standing at the front of the carrage behind the engine to. Not many railways you can do that on, its almost as good as a footplate ride.
It is awesome isn’t it. You can see everything and feel the engine working. I loved it.
The railway's own journey taken at the front are avery difficult acts to follow. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for your comment, I am glad you enjoyed the video.
You had great weather. Did you clamp the camera to the handrail? It was very steady footage 👌🏻
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it. No I had a tripod setup with my camera attached ☺️
Fantastic!
Awesome.
Where was this
Hampton Loade on the Severn Valley Railway
Oh ok
That’s my closest steam railway, are you planning to go to the winter steam gala there
@@Charlie-x4jI sure am ☺️
!!!Super film - Like!!!
Thank you so much
Lovely ex Lms saddle tank.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That was the Clayton not the teddy bear
Thank you, in all honesty, new to the diesel side made a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out though, I appreciate it.
What a machine.
The video doesn’t really do it justice the feeling as it barrelled through the station was something else
@@rich_on_rails I know what you mean, the vibration through the ground and the noise is part of the experience. I've only driven her a couple of times since she returned to traffic, don't think I'll ever get bored of her.
Very nicely put together and the pace was just right. Good to see that you used a tripod - I wish more people would! Naturally, one has subscribed...
Thank you so much, I always use a tripod unless it absolutely impossible to set one up. I don’t like feeling sea sick watching trains barrel into a station. Thanks for the sub.
Eardington lmao, Erdington station isn’t nearly this interesting 😂. Great footage!
I don’t know what you’re talking about 🙈 thanks tho, I am not great at spelling it seems.
Lovely ex Lms mogul.
Fantastic event svr.
An amazing day, next year I am going to do more days so I can see more engines.
Lovely ex GWR hall.
Love it!!!
@@rich_on_rails😊😊😊😊😊
That's 13268 dude.
Thank you - I have fixed it now.
Que belleza
The video doesn’t do the feeling you feel standing on that platform
참 듣기좋다! 우리도 관광사업차 교외선열차를이런 증기 기관차 로 하면 재밌있을거 같은데.....
Some lovely clips, really enjoyed 13268 and 4930 powering through Eardington!
Highlight of my weekend. Thank you for watching.
❤moje auto❤
Thank you so much for watching
4930*
Thank you, typo. Fixed now
Good work! Nice footage
Great video of some beautiful locos
Thanks so much for watching.
I’m pretty sure that this is the most conventional loco there
What a delightful ride! I live in New Zealand, and it's unlikely I shall ever be able to actually ride the Ffestiniog Railway, so this trip was a real pleasure. The Welsh countryside is beautiful, and I got to "ride" behind a splendid Fairlie double-ender! My hometown is Dunedin, also home to "Josephine", the only surviving double Fairlie locomotive outside Wales- I've always had a special fascination for Mr. Fairlie's unique engines! Thank you for posting this!
Hello, thank you for stopping by my little channel, I am so glad that my video bought you a little bit of joy, it was wonderful to make, the views are spectacular, thanks once again and hopefully catch you in the comments of another video in the future. Cheers Rich
So glad this is my grandads! Omg it’s beautiful
It really is isn’t it.
Mine is dreadnought and my grandad own evening star! I’m so glad to have so many in my family
Woah really! It is amazing how many people who own these locos see my videos.
Is that homemade? I'm trying to make a railway in my garden, and some of it will be similar to this!
I am not sure if this was constructed or bought pre-built unfortunately. Good luck with your build.
The Ffestiniog railway is full of unconventional and interesting locomotives
Awesome day out
Such a shame that the line ends in the middle of nowhere. Where does the line go to?
Thanks for sharing. Looks a beautiful setting.
My little escape from the world
👍🏻🇬🇧
That's an awesome little kit, might have to get it myself. Great work!
Thanks so much, it was a real fun little kit to build.
Looks great
Thanks so much for the kind words.
That’s awesome
Powerful little engine!
@@rich_on_rails yeah it is there’s just something so special about steam engines tbh
Getting a steam facial
Nice video thanks for posting . FYI Out of Leekbrook with 10mph then 15 mph restriction over two points (so no real run up to gain speed) then its 1 in 40 until around the bend , 1 in 45 for about 3 miles to just past Bradnop tunnel (it's just too short technically to be a tunnel but has all the characteristics of a tunnel apart from length) passed the site of Bradnop station then 1 in 59 for the rest of the way to Ipstones.
Thank you so much for your comment and the information it’s appreciated
Gutted for you. Hope it gets fixed quickly.
Cheers
I was at Gasworks bridge today watching Austin haul the 3 coaches from Weston - great to see and thanks for this video!
Love it. Such a nice day for spotting too. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks Rich looks like a good place for a trip
It was lovely, will definitely go back when it isn’t raining
It is, whatever the weather.
Hi Rich, just came across your channel and subbed - us N Gaugers have to stick together! Good luck with the build and I look forward to seeing your progress. Chris
Hi Chris, Thanks for stopping by, I am really new to the hobby, hope you stick around, progress might be slow while I get the foundations in place as everything is so expensive. Cheers Rich
How big are the wheels on the maxitrak planet
That is a good question I would have to measure them. But they are not very big. It’s only 5” scale
@@rich_on_rails I am saving up for one of the same locos and I wanted to check wether it would work on the track I go to
What is the size of the wheels on that thing
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching I really appreciate it
Rich your layout is getting there keep up the good work !
Thanks, slowly slowly, but we are making progress
Excellent.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
