Choosing Crazy Colors for Your Primitive Hooked Rug
Hi Haleigh, I know this question is off topic as to what you’re gonna teach, but I need help. I was asked to repair an old hooked rug. I feel the moths got to it. Do I put burlap on the back and hook that way? There’s holes all over. Help please.
I’m inspired by your work. Thank you.
Have you tried using recycled acrylic fabric as strips? I'm a newbie to hooking :)
Sorry for the delay in my reply - you can use any fabric content but it's easiest to hook with soft, flexible fabrics like t shirt, chiffon, soft sweaters, yarns. Harder fabrics like quilting fabric, denim, hard ribbons are more challenging to hook with.

You only need it 'drum tight' when using a punch needle. Many times having it a bit more slack ensures that the height of your loops are sufficient to hold.
Thanks for the feedback! I find when teaching beginners, drum tight works best and you can loosen the tension up after you have the stitch down pat.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! From a beginner trying to figure that out.
I received one of these kits through the Norton Public Library. I enjoyed the process of making it and love the final product!
This is super helpful, thank you! I’ve been trying to sketch out ideas in Procreate, but it’s tools are way too nuanced and complex for me. This looks way more my speed!
Where can you purchase that hoop? That information would be very useful.
Is there a certain way to rip your wool fabric with grain or against grain
Красота.
❤☀️
On those convex areas if u snip the whole curve and apply glue to each snip there will be a flatter mire even finish.I’m a sewer and necklines and armhole are done like that.
Reat!!!
This is a great video. Thanks.
Hailey, love your videos. What is the backing that you are using?
Sorry for the late reply! I was hooking on Primitive Linen. I sell it in my online store: LoopbyloopStudio.com
@@loopbyloopstudio thank you👍
Another tip! You can follow some of these organizations on social media to stay even more up to date on calls that are out there.

Thank you for sharing.
Hi,I really like your videos. I have request make a video about rug tool and if possible it's making. Thanks. Have a blessed day.
I've always wondered if moving a hoop to do a larger piece was really practical to do. It seems like it was no problem.
No problem at all! The pattern is a little less tight once you have to move it to squish areas you’ve hooked but it’s fine!
Looks fun to do!
It is!
Cool way to finish
thank you, very cute
awesome idea!!
Is the 1/4 cutting die still available - i cant find it at the tatterd flag or by googling

바늘정보좀주세요 바늘이름이 뭔가요??
Thank you for this video. Love your rugs. It answered the question about which direction to cut wool for hooking. I cut all my wood by hand as I do not have a cutter. However, it’s not hard to cut and I like the finished product. Have you ever used wool yarns? I follow Deanne Fitzpatrick also and she seems to be using more wool yarns these past few years.
Glad it was helpful! Yes, Deanne is my aunt! I am using more yarns now than ever.
Thank you!!!
Thankyou ,great demonstration, I'm just starting and yes I'm twisting my loops.
Sahwnttasmth you love me to see you love 💕
delightful. Well done!
Why I haven’t switched to bulky yarn instead of skinny 3-4 wool strips is beyond me.
Bulky yarn is SO satisfying to work with.
Did you wash them first
yes
great demonstration, thank you for all your tips and easy to see methods, learned lots!
Very interesting!
Is there a specific wool you put on the back of the piece? Is it the same kind of wool you hooked with?
Sorry for the delayed reply! Yes, the back is just regular hooking weight wool.
Love this video! It answered many questions I had about cutting wool, and I especially loved the cutter comparisons. Thank you!
❤ Love the heat and bond tip - perfect!
Thanks for showing how to do this, it has inspired me to make something like that.
Do you have a hand feel difference between the more rounded vs thinner pencil like?
Great question! Actually, no. No difference in how they felt in my hand. Both very comfortable.
Thanks
❤🥰❤
I am learning so much from your videos. Thank you. I really like that you are using other materials than just wool! I will be checking all your videos for tips🤗
I'm so glad it's helpful!
Love the bins you have your yarn in! Where did you get them?
Hi Christine! They are from amazon. Here's a link! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QKZPBW6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@LoopbyLoopStudio thank you 😊
Thank you so much for such an interesting video and demonstration. Have you ever tried using fleece to hook with?
I have used fleece - i can't pinpoint an exact video where I use fleece, but I know I have in some of the videos. I love using it! : )
@@loopbyloopstudio Good to know, thank you.
I’m surprised you cut against the warp. I thought warp threads were the strongest, so you would want to cut keeping them intact. The selvage edge is parallel with the warp, isn’t it?
Omg I just bought a cutter exactly like the Frazier cutter! Can we get a tad wider blades for it?
That's great! Yes, I think you can buy them direct from the company: www.fraserrug.com
This is very helpful! I will be trying it soon. I missed what setting you put the iron on & you do put water in, right?
I put my iron on high and I use steam, yes. Thanks for asking! : )
Do you think the Sixx machine would cut through a bed sheet doubled up?
Probably since it cuts through felted wool, but I have not tried so I can't say for sure! Maybe try reaching out to Old Tattered Flag since they manufacture the blades and would probably know. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this detailed video on how to hook with a hoop. I'd been searching for such a video for quite a while. Most of them do not go into the detail you presented here. I have a few new hooker friends who I will direct to this video. They will really appreciate it. :)))))
Thank you so much!
