First Archery Pronghorn is a FREAK!
Follow along as I head out for my first hunt of the season here in Colorado: spot and stalk archery pronghorn! After several days battling it out on public, I change tactics and head out with my good buddy Beau onto a piece of ground with less pressure. We are able to capitalize on the late season rut action and decoy this freak buck into range.

Headed East: The Story of My First Whitetail Buck

We have been hunting a trio of Nebraska properties for three years now and it was time I held out for a buck. I harvested a doe last year and was going to wait for an 8 point or better deer to show up. Spoiler alert: he showed up!
The Long Season

A video to showcase my 2019 Colorado Archery season. From a limited entry pronghorn tag that I spent over 15 days trying to fill, to a short but enjoyable mountain mule deer hunt, to a brutally challenging and frustrating elk hunt on the western slope. No tags were filled, but many lessons were learned and much fun was had. Enjoy.

    In no way am I trying to be a smart ass. But I’ve watched countless videos on UA-cam about back tension releases. I have not seen one person shoot it correctly. You don’t rotate your hand. You grip the release deep so you can’t rotate it and it’s you elbow rotating back towards behind your head using back tension that sets off the release.

    • @Earlimusmaximus
      @Earlimusmaximus 4 роки тому

      deerhost there’s more than one way to use a release. The “proper” way is the way that you as the shooter can execute the shot the same every time. A hinge is not a “back tension” release from a technical aspect, it is however, a movement activated release. The release is fired by movement, a true tension release is in fact activated by back tension.

    • @deerhost
      @deerhost 4 роки тому

      Shoot Str8 I’ve been involved with archery for 41 years. Ive owned the first few back tension or (hinge releases) that first appeared on the market. A back tension release is just a term for a release that has no trigger. You can call it it a back tension release, hinge or whatever you want. It is designed to grip and pull with your back muscles or ( rhomboids). If you rotate it and trigger it with your hand then it’s just like any other trigger release. You will learn how to time and trigger the release and anticipate the shot. You might as well shoot an index or thumb trigger release. If used correctly the way it is designed to be used, then as you pull with your upper back or rhomboids and slightly rotate the elbow back the release will fire when you are in absolute perfect alignment and with a surprise release. If you really would like to learn to use it that way get the book by Bernie pellirite ( Idiot Proof Archery) it’s an old book but you can probably find it used. Bernie is the creator of the NFAA shooting school. Be well and good shooting,
