I sit on this board. I’m so sad that anyone would think I I don’t understand the constitution. Yes, I believe that Jennifer was targeting me. Have we taken a survey to see if Jennifer was correct in that there are more supporting those supporting keeping these books in the school?

1:18 mark a Dr. talks about the Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison that RPS provides access to in the libraries. I have read this book. If you support free access to any book in the school library, read this book. The content chilled me to the bone. Incest, rape, pedophilia, and violence against children is glorified in this book. As the gentleman stated after the doctor spoke, some knowledge is too heavy for our children to carry. I taught at RPS for 42 years and this knowledge is too heavy a burden for me, as I personally witnessed the devastation these events burdened a child with. Children do not have the maturity, words, and reasoning to deal with this ugly reality in the world and often express these feelings with inappropriate behavior or withdrawal from the world. Why are we willingly exposing our children to this? Why are we fighting to keep these materials accessible to children? What is the agenda to offer exposure to the ugly parts of this world to children without the life experience and maturity to understand. What kind of "village" of "trusted" adults would give accessibility to materials that would burden a child's mind. Sadly, this book is just one example of inappropriate materials being offered to students. Do not listen to opinions and form yours. Read these books and read from a child's perspective. I was one of those "trusted school village" people and I am appalled that this material is available to children.
