Did you all even notice that Gordon Lightfoot was the sheriff of the posse in the movie? I've always Loved his Beautiful voice and style. One of the Top All Time Balladeers, in my book anyway!💞💞
I just say thanks. Regards frm Cologne. Karl
The real Harry Tracy was the last of the train robbers and a real scoundrel but the writers of the film created such an emotional bond between Harry and the audience that it causes great sadness in the final scene as Harry is shot to death in the cornfield while shouting out to his lady that he loves her. Afterwards they take his copse and prop it up in a wagon to take photos of it. Another memorable scene is where he challenges his partner in crime (who's jealous of Harry's relationship with his girlfriend) to a dual. While distracting him through conversation, Harry shoves the muzzle of the firearm into the ground and packs it full of dirt. As they're counting out the paces, his partner turns prematurely and tries shooting Harry in the back but the barrel of the gun explodes, killing himself. I watched the film at a hotel while working as a long distance truck driver in 1984 & '85. I felt this song was one of Gordon's best compositions and it was over 2 decades before I came across it on UA-cam. It's remarkable how some films and songs leave such a lasting impression and remain in your memory for many years.
I saw the movie Harry Tracy three times. Needless to say, I loved the movie and Gordon Lightfoot's song My love for you. He is an exceptional songwriter and singer. I first heard him while living in Canada in the late sixties. He'll always be one of my favorite singers!!!
I recorded this movie Harry Tracy on a videotape. It is too bad it isn't shown any more on tv, and yes, this song is beautiful, sung by the wonderful Gordon Lightfoot.
Playing right now on STRZWS Xfinity - same deal - magnetic attraction to that unmistakable (phenomenal) voice-print of the one and only Gordon Lightfoot. Explains why its not found in his album sets. Great 1982 movie! 202 Likes vs 7 - tells the story -
My love for you is as wild and true as the wind o'er the sea On winter nights so bleak and cold, it always will remain On summer eves, when the breeze whispers your name Like a star of this I'll be singing Oh with you I will spend every evening And my love like the light above shall shine eternally At the end of time, you'll still be mine And I'll be here with thee My love for you is as wild and true as the wind o'er the tide As it travels 'round this whole wide world it gathers seeds of love Through desert sands, through snow and ice and high up above It gathers all the thoughts of lonely couples Until the cup of love overbubbles And with a song it carries on through the skies of blue At the end of time, you'll still be mine and I'll be here with you My love for you is as wild and true as the wind o'er the sea On winter nights so bleak and cold, it always will remain On summer eves, when the breeze whispers your name Like a star of this I'll be singing Oh if you ever spend every evening And my love like the light above shall shine eternally At the end of time, you'll still be mine and I'll be here with thee
I believe that very recording had been uploaded to UA-cam about 3-4 yrs ago. I found it in the wee hours of the morning on one of my usual searches for anything new that may have been posted of Lightfoot. It WAS terrific-I considered it one of the best Lightfoot videos on UA-cam. Unfortunately, when I went to watch it the very next day, UA-cam had taken it down. It was a bummer.
There are many "youtube" download software pkgs available online. Depending upon which computer you have, there is a solution for you. I'm using a Mac so I use among others, "Fastest Free UA-cam Downloader". Enjoy
I have a tv recording of Gordon singing it at a Canadian awards show years ago. He was sitting on a stool wearing a red velvet jacket beside a woman playing the piano. It's terrific.
Is this recording available anywhere at all? If not I'll have to get the movie, which I would want to see of course, but I figure I could rip the song from the DVD. Any thoughts?
I was able to record this from the Harry Tracy DVD, but recorded it to my work computer in 2008. My job was eliminated in 2010, and I could not retrieve it...Gord did a great job with this song, the best part of the film.
This song has the same spirit as "Forever Autumn" the song Justin Hayworth recorded for the album "War of the Worlds." Both Gordon and Justin usually only record their own songs but those two songs sound like they penned them themselves. "My Love For You" is one of those songs I don't hear often, but always brings a tear to my eye. Just, beautiful!
I bought the DVD and don't have a player, thought I was going to be able to play it on my computer but says I need a decoder...sigh I will get to see it..have all his albums and wanted to see this video..wish I could get to see him in concert...I have loved his music since I was 12 years old..back in 66..he's always been my very favorite singer
I remember a buddy of mine laying down infront of his TV with a little cassette recorder copying this song from its Showtime presentation. The recording was scratchy as hell, but cherished. Thanks for the post. Al
i have similar memories...I am in Nashville and was blessed to see Gord @the Ryman 2017? i'm just so grateful for all the songs I've ever heard him sing. I'm grey around the muzzle now, too. Gordon Lightfoot has been the standard for me since 1970. God Bless that singer that God gave us all. Love to Gord!
Thanks! I'ver hunted this and was hunting it when I came across your posting-heard it in the movie-couldn't remember the title-but was certain it was Gordon. I echo larriviere1961-you made my day
I first heard this song on the movie. I researched it only to find it was never recorded for release on an album. Don't know why. It is one of his most beautiful songs....and he has many. He didn't write it but suggested it for the movie. I can't remember if he played the piano in the song but if I'm not mistaken, he learned the piano first. I rented the movie from Netflix and recorded the song onto my cell phone. It was all I had till you posted this. Thank you. You made my day. Long live Gord!
❤️
I enjoyed the movie. Wish we could have seen Gordon in more, Movies.
I just love this♥

I can't believe this song is not available on iTunes. Incredible soundtrack.
With tears in my eyes, how much I Love this Song
Who is on keyboards Gordon
I believe it is Michael Heffernan. Gord later asked him to join the Lightfoot Band, where he has remained ever since.
oh my - so beautiful...
Today. July 30 th, 2021. My heart is melting hearing this song.
FYI--the person pictured is not Morrie.

Thank you I’ve been humming this for decades since I saw this movie 😍 as a kid
Listening here in 2020
written by Les Pouliot - brother of Gordon's guitarist, Red Shea.

Possibly his most beautiful song.

You can scoop up ANYTHING that's on UA-cam using www.vidtomp3.com/
can anyone help me to learn to download a song from you tube
I also tryed to record this off the movie I love this song theres something about it that gives me goossebumps..
The only other place I can find this song is on the "Live in Reno" DVD - I wish Gordon would put it on a CD. Thanks for posting this!
I plan on doing just that! lol-I also have tons of VHS recorded TV shows from the last 20+ years..so I'll be busy when I get everything hooked up..!
I have a tv recording of Gordon singing it at a Canadian awards show years ago. He was sitting on a stool wearing a red velvet jacket beside a woman playing the piano. It's terrific.
Please post it if you can!
That piano sounds superb. That's all it takes besides the voice of the singer of course.
This was ripped from the DVD movie.. you can do the same if you like or just download this from the tube.
Is this recording available anywhere at all? If not I'll have to get the movie, which I would want to see of course, but I figure I could rip the song from the DVD. Any thoughts?

EXACTLY!!! Justin Hayworth, like Gordon, is a human treasure.
Wow ! They are two of my most fav. [ if not fav.] singersong writers --> EVER!
@@FarOutRadioMusic I'm a BIG fan of Justin too. He is SO underrated as a singer songwriter. Gord is a Superstar - AND THE WORLD knows it !
This is very excellent and incredibly fascinating. I had no idea he starred in any movies!
crying, remembering . . . by 1983 Gord's popularity was fading, but this should have been released as a single.
I remember a buddy of mine laying down infront of his TV with a little cassette recorder copying this song from its Showtime presentation. The recording was scratchy as hell, but cherished. Thanks for the post. Al

the adio won't turn on . whats wrong ? Love gordans song and have searched for it for years. Did big brother step in and jam the audio? Realy sad.

Written by Les Pouliot, not Gord. Nevertheless, he's made it his own....
