John Pitta Freshman High Jump Progression
keep up w the good work men. It will pay off. 14 meters mark soon😎😎
holy consistency
Amazing. 6’2 as a freshman. This kid had a great coach for sure.
trash
😂😂😂 im stuck at 6'6 too it's so anoying im so close and could get my hips above it but never my whole body
Thanks for sharing your story John. Keep working at it.
Hi I am a former high jumper.(2.30PB) I wanted to draw your attention to what, 2 steps before you jump you pick up your 2 hands above your head. I wanted to ask why are you doing this?
A Habit that started in high school that starts to go away towards the end of the video
@@johnvpitta Yes, it’s noticeable that you raise your hands much less in the end) And habits like that are hard to break and scratching your foot before jumping doesn’t help either, you're probably working on this with a coach)) this movement really spoils your rhythm. and this one of the most important things in a jump. correct rhythm) you have excellent explosive jump! I think if you fix the technical "problems" you’ll be able to jump easily 2- 2.05 meters) good luck to you)
Do you went d1 jumping 6’2?
Ion think that’s d1
He probably has other events
Marquette is Division 1
@@johnvpitta what gpa did u have, and what other events
DUDE THAT 2.02m JUMP WAS SO THERE!!!! 4:15
How did u learn fosbury flop? I tried so many times but, I can't arch my back.
To be honest I just try to let my body rotate instead of forcing it.
Ha me watching this and realizing that’s my hometown 😂
As a freshman my pr is 6 foot
Nice. My highest was 1.91m in grade 9 (14/15). I stopped after that year when I transferred to a new school. Always wondered what I'd get if I continued throughout all of high-school. Lost interest though.
I start high jumping next Monday I'm a freshman Wish me luck
good luck gang
We never had coaches to help with our high jumping. We were just turned loose to go "jump" and basically "play around" so to speak. I never even KNEW you could "coach" a high jumper till a few YEARS ago to be honest...crazy, I know! Yeah...we just learned on our own. I learned jumping over a neighbor's fence when younger & those were the days of the "Western Roll". In school, we jumped in a SAND pit, and later moved to piles of foam scraps when the Fosbury Flop was learned/used.
Nice work. As a former jumper keep up the good work. I went from 5’8” Freshman to 6’8 1/4” sophomore to 6’10” Junior NY State Champion. 2.20 meters in College. The most important thing is your approach speed needs to be consistent. Good luck. Thing big
Can you tell me how you increased your high jump by a foot. Like exercises, workouts, etc. I would also like to have such an increase as this will be my first time doing high jump(I'm a sophomore).
@@kags4506 Hi well it was lots of working out and the key was I switched from a right foot take off to the Left foot it was actually just kinda luck. Lots of squats. Lunges and plyometrics also I used to Skateboard a whole lot and went all over town pushing with the right foot. The key to great jumps is the approach consistent speed. Good luck if I can help in any other way please let me know.
@@stephanpace8678 ok thank you very much I will come here again if I have any questions and update you about my progress
@@kags4506 that would be awesome. Good luck.
@@stephanpace8678 so you shouldn’t speed up through the curve?

Nice !
How old is freshman? I’m assuming this is high school? I’m from Australia so we don’t do freshman or anything like that
Around 14 years old (year 9)
@@CarsonKeppel impressive, good work champ
6’6” high school jumper here (20 years ago). I won regionals and went to state my senior year. The best advice I can give you is squat squat squat. Throw in a ton of jump ropes. Great video!
do you know any other workouts to increase height? and also what would jump roping do?
@@bryan_._randolph works your calves. Knowing what I know now 20 years later I would do a ton of kettlebell swings.
@@garnetnard4284 Similar story here, jumped 6'5 - 15 years ago - finished top 8 at state. Imagine if I had a better diet, training knowledge, etc back then. The only thing I did correctly was sleep. We only practiced 3-4 times my senior year because the weather was horrible. Coaching wasn't the best. Our track coaches were just reused football coaches, they didn't care. To top it off I broke my ankle a few months before the season.
@@stevenp9209 Ha....we never HAD a high jump coach :) We were just sent out to go "jump". The same goes for the running events as well...no coaching w/soever. We had metal bars that were triangular in shape and of course bent OUT of shape due to the misses :) We jumped into a sand pit using the Western Roll, and when the Fosbury Flop came around, the pit was nothing more than piles of foam scraps ;)
@@Kman. are you in your 70s?
nice dude!! keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Well done...great improvement in technique over the period covered by the video..... still more work to do on it though so more height to come too.
I finally get to jump again for the first time in two years because of covid. Goal is 6’6 this year. Thanks for the feedback!
@@johnvpitta Good Luck John. Let's have another early video this year to see how the season starts out and then a few more later so we can follow your progress through the year.
I was moved down to JV my sophomore (no freshman class) year just for the city meet as the Varsity had no chance of winning. I cleared 6' 3" I forget what my LJ and TJ were that year but they would have all took first a Varsity. I improved the following year to 6' 7", 21' 10" and 45' 2. If you want to rely improve add sprint intervals to your work outs. 4 X 165 meter sprints, 4 x 220 and 4 X 330 at least once a week preferably as far away from your next meet as you can. Normal meets were Fridays or Saturdays so min intervals were on Monday it is a great way to gain strength. I'm also 5' 11"
Thanks!
I agree with this. The summer before my senior year I was squatting and jump roping but I was also sprinting to make sure I got a starting spot on the football team. I’m sure the sprints helped too.
Well done!
Thanks!
Very impressive :)
