I am lucky to have some of his clothing from the 80s, a couple of dresses and trouser suits. My auntie passed them down to me. They are without a doubt my favourite clothing to wear. Very chic. As an unconventional looking woman, dressing well is what is required. Thank you for sharing this. Katherine Hepburn was incredibly stylish. ❤

The part about being a Marketing Genius is so right on. The Complimentary things that he offered especially with his Fragrances were mindblowing. From a Journal, to A Cup, etc he made you want to buy the products. When he started out in the 1970's he saw Halston walking in who kicked the door for so many US Designers includign him.

Looking back at it, it all makes sense now. He is gay, dated men while married, put women who look like boys on a pedestal, and designed clothes for women that made them look like lesbians. I’m so glad (sixty years younger) Nicholas Gruber made him come out of the closet. It must have been an absolute fraud to live his entire life in a lie. That bit when the look on his face froze after “you love your wife” was creepy. I wish society will make it easier for gay people to live more authentic lives. He sounds like a good person.

Weak and failed men will always seek to tear down the great ones. This supposedly sympathetic author in the few minutes available to discuss his subject shared: he was a homosexual, he was unstable, suffered nervous breakdowns because he was overly sensitive, he was callous in the death of his daughter, he was a hyperchondriac, he has eccentric demands when performing, he's seflish... and that he's not sorry for this hit job. Some biographer!

I don't think he consciously meant any harm to Horowitz - but, yeah, if you call someone and they politely ask you not to write a book about them it's probably in good taste to not do it. At least Harold Schonberg waited till after Horowitz was already dead to write his biography, and even then mostly concentrated on his professional career, while giving the man's private life only minimal discussion. Respectful without being either fawning or disingenuous.

As someone who does tax work professionally, she knowingly funneled personal expenses through a Helmsley corporate account requesting that contractors working on her residence bill the company. When she attempted to negotiate down the renovation expenses with those same contractors, they turned her in for tax evasion. She was guilty.
