Another long overdue, next installment to the model by model series on Australian Chrysler Valiants, the VF. Arguably the most loved and sought after model for restoration, and resto-mods in the country.

Released in 1966, the VC was a vast improvement over the outgoing AP6. A very loved model amongst today's enthusiasts. The last of the second generation, and the first to adopt the 2 letter alpha designation, though it was referred internally as the AP7, during development. The change most likely to bring it in line with the Holdens and Falcons of the day, which used a similar 2 letter model code.

A brief gloss over of the history of Chrysler in Australia, prior to the Valiant's arrival. This is only a glimpse of highlights, not a full, indepth, detailed story. I don't want the video to be 3 hours long, any more than you do!
TAVO's Australian Valiant lineup overview, from first to last.

Just a quick video to show each model Valiant that Chrysler Australia produced. It doesn't cover each trim level or body style, just the yearly model range.

Way back then my first car was a red Pacer. We got it cheap - nobody wanted them at that time, mid 70s? Three on the floor and drums all around it was a hoot. 1st to 2nd v easy kiss reverse..resouting in lots of noise. Loved the dinky little tacho stuck on top of crash pad. At same time dad had a 318 Safari wagon. I learnt to reverse park in that tank, tow boats and move mountains. Traded the Pacer in on an early Gemini for mum and I got the family HR wagon Premier 2 speed auto..I drove it into the ground. Very enjoyable to look back at the old Vals through your videos, thanks.
Are they the same as the ford 200 motors?
About the only thing the 2 have in common, is they are conventional design inline 6s, with pushrod overhead valves.

Nice vid just picked up a gear selector in nz cheap was amazed I found one bought box without it converting vj from auto to man with 3 speed
Thank you friend most informative , could listen to your knowledge all day
Good job
Love it! Thanks for for history lesson.
Ihave owned a few VC vals over the years amongst others. The VC was always my favourite.
The wonderful Chariots of the Wogs as these were called.
I had a 67 VE that was kind of a Frankenstein's monster. Stock VE body, black vip interior, vip front discs. It had rear hd air shocks, heavy duty front gas, stabilisers, and stronger torsion arms. It cornered like race car. The 225 slant was a gem of an engine.
THANKS FROM AUSTRALIA
Hi, thankyou for these videos. In 1979 at 22yo I needed to buy a car having just arrived in Sydney from NZ. My older brother spotted a 1968 VE Valiant auto sedan in the cars for sale section of the Telegraph. Advertised for $600. It was Sunday in August and arrived after dark. The owner threw me the keys and said take it for a spin and went back inside (awesome). The car was in good condition. Stock standard except for extractors and wider crome rims. It sounded really good. Dark green in colour. Auto slant 6, I guess it was the 225 motor. What a great motor. I found out later it would kick down and take off like a rocket, made getting pass someone so much fun. Anyway offered the guy $400 cash which he accepted and we left with a great buy. It proved to be a reliable good car and gave me no trouble. But I, like thousands of other guys later on in life, so regretted not keeping that car. I was going to keep it and tidy it up more but my brother said nah move on it's only a Valiant 😔
Enjoying these videos. Thanks
I had a near new 1970 VF Regal 318 Fireball V8 Wagon - just an absolute pleasure to drive. I asked the original owner why he was selling it and he said that if you drop it down manually and give it kickdown, particularly on wet roads, it was absolutely dangerous, you could not hold it. Months later when I saw him I told him I had not needed to take it out of D for Drive !
They were like Volvo’s , ‘they’re Boxy but they’re good’ .. I always thought the guy that designed the indicators front & back should have had the opportunity to design the whole car .. he was good.
???? Nothing like a Volvo? Boxy maybe! Absolutely nothing similar to a Volvo
It looks a lot like the 318 poli combustion chamber.
I had a 225 VF, three on the tree and it went like Hell, couldn't kill it with a big stick. But they were a rust bucket, I could fit a footy in the rust holes in the boot. Mechanically, Henry & The General couldn't touch it.
Good video !!! Great explainations. Nice looking cars.👍
I had a VF VIP and I rearranged REGAL letters to LAGER. I still have the instrument cluster and a tailight buried in the garage.
Hahah my son did the same on ours!
I had a VE and later a VF. The VF went around Australia twice. Unbreakable cars. I wish I had kept the VF, would love to potter around in it now.
Mission brown looks good on Val’s😎those two doors are beautiful cars.
Looking forward to the VH video. Coming soon?
Great video, Biggest mistake Chrysler should of offered a 340 version of the the VF. There should of been a Pacer version with a 340 auto & 4 speed straight from the US to compete with the Monaro & XW GT. In my lifetime owned 2 x 770 sedan V8 1 x VIP V8 Missed out on a rare V8 Regal column auto Sedan with the sargent V8 badging on the front guard. Look forward to the VG Cheers Louis Kats 👍
yeah a 340 T/A would have been great.
Had a near new 71 770 Regal V8 column auto….beautiful car….keep it for a few years….one big regret…. 770 V8 Regal near new
The rear indicaters were the most important. The front ones were facing drivers in front who had their backs to you, and were travelling away from you. But still, they probably should have been better.
The grill looks quite Ford Fairlane/Torino-like, but more slick, with those turn signals at the tops of the fenders. Those taillights and rear markers look very cool too - almost Pontiac-like. I can tell right off that that rear door and C pillar are all different from their USDM counterparts, and that back-glass has a very interesting shape. That console/floor shifter shown @4:00 looks like what I call the 'Shower Head Shifter' Like what you would see in a '68 USDM Satellite. They look like the shower heads in the 1960s housing development I grew up in. I'd love one of those Valiant coupes with a hot small block and probably a LHD conversion.
My father had two of these a regal that he traded in on a ford he regretted it until the day he died. And a vip that he brought for $700 that had a Wornout motor leaking transmission and power steering. He replaced the motor from a 770 charger. And that car was stolen and used as jail break getaway car from parramatta woman’s detention center in the early 80s
I've had my VF Regal 770 sedan for 38 years. I love it, and its "only" got 660,000 kms on the clock
That was great 👍 I had a Regal coup with 318 fireball. It was white with black vinyl roof and interior (not 770) air conditioning and power steering. It was about 9 years old when I bought it when I was 17yo. It was so much better than any of my friends cars .
Interesting that the VIP's rear doors are just lengthened normal sedan doors , as were the doors used on VH onwards Hardtops and Chargers .
Yeah, same deal with the cut n shut inner shells. Just a new skin on the outer. Just quietly, Ford did the same stretching the Fairlane rear doors for the LTD in 73-76,
@@TAVOAu Would've been a whole different longer roof skin on the VIP wouldn't it ? , or did they cut it and add metal? , seems messy.
@@barrycuda3769 Yep, they cut it and added a 4" strip. The padded vinyl roof hides the evidence.
@@TAVOAu Crikey.
@@TAVOAu I remember in about 1992 in Dunedin nz, there was VF Pacer I saw getting around town , white with a red stripe , very tidy , it had a For Sale sign on it for a long time , the asking price was around $ 3,200 .Another missed investment, what would it be worth now?
I remember my father's 1970 VF sedan. Burgundy with the white vinyl roof, 225 and three on the tree. After that, we had a 1975 HQ Kingswood s/w met. gold, 202 and column manual. The Valiant was always my favourite.
Glad you’re back Tavo with some new Mopar content! What do you think about the movies Duel and Christine? True Mopar lovers movies …. Keep well my man!
Hey Jay. Duel was kinda ok as a kid. Corny as anything now 🤣 Christine, yeah, I watch it again every few years.

Never knew they had pacer station wagons, groovy. Good video.
They didn’t
@@peterm1826 They did, though I highly doubt 20 were made. They were SOA only
Pacer wagon v v rare beasty. I've only ever seen one, many years ago in Ivanhoe Melbourne.
@@leondown6869 A mate now deceased had one in the yellow colour. It was legit. I had my hands and eyes all over it. This must have been back in the early 90's. It was the one that found its way up to the NT. It can be researched. He also had a very rare VG Pacer coupe that was SOA floor shift auto from factory.
Where the 15 inch Ralley or Magnum wheels available in Australia?
No, not down here. The VH series did get a 'factory sports wheel' our version of a steel rally wheel, with 5 triangular holes, in 6x14 or 6.5x14. In '72 they introduced an ROH jellybean style alloy, 7x14. Initially only on the 6 pack Charger, then made available as an option on most variants.
Great Video - Very Well Presented ! Thank You
I agree - and it is great to get these reports in North America, where we have been cut off from Australian cars.
Perhaps the Adam Wade/Rare Classic Cars and Automotive History channel of Down Under!👍
All VF had 5.5 x14 inch rims
Incorrect. 5" standard.
Pacer its the low price
Underdash a/c not intergrated ?.
The entire system is integrated with the heater unit behind the firewall. Only the outlet vent is under the dash.
I guess that extended front end sheet metal was in anticipation of the Hemi 6...215/245 and 265 right? Wonderful Engines!
Correct, it needed a few more inches. 2-5/8" longer than a slant.
Did you notice the master cylinder is on the wrong side of the car?
🤣
Its just the vacuum booster for the brakes , not enough room on the right hand side
Good looking cars
They are by far the favorite model among members of forums I'm in.
@@TAVOAuReminds me or the one in the Duel movie…. nice

Great to have a video from you it's been awhile. The stretched VIP looked great even though not a C body. 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
Aussiehemi not quite a hemi but f'kn good 😁
Hey man , I have a spare roof skin I can donate to you , it’s obviously going to a good cause so it’s yours if you want 👌🏽👌🏽
Hey @unclebrentsshed, Can you send me an email via my contact details on the channel please? I had a look and can't see yours at your channel.
I never knew the utes had AP bonnets.
I would love an AP5 for the collection.... need more room first. Great Video
The vc is my favourite valiant all the other valiants kind of similar to each other but the vc stands out
