Gretsch is owned by Gretsch, Bigsby is owned by Gretsch, Fender does the marketing, shipping etc. In my experience Gretsch's will play everything from chicken picken country to metal, Ive owned hollow body, jet, corvette models. Single coil, ft and bt pickups, all good. Had a Setzer model but it was stolen.

I have the Twin. Here's what I think. Drive pedals don't sound right, no matter what. At unity volume, they are going to work best. But, then they sound tinny & fizzy. Tone Master Amps are awesome. But they are meant to sound like the amp the uh are emulating, without the use of pedals. I run mine at home on the lowest setting & crank the volume to get some drive. Bliss.

I have to say that I have found the Princeton TM to sound the best with dirt. Now by dirt I mean Tube Screamer, Timmy and a Klon style pedal. I am using an HX Effects and I find that if I stack overdrives I can get good results. Straight up high gain pedals sound bad but then they sound bad on Tube black panel amps too.

I'm not so sure about them being rebranded Harley Bentons. HBs have a lower amp rating for the 9v supply (300mA as opposed to the Engine Room's 500 mA rating), and I believe they use a power brick instead of an internal power converter.

I got one. For a long time Chicago only had one Guitar Center. Back in the 90’s when I started playing guitar, the place was awesome. They had a display where you could try out every effects pedals they sold. It ruled, and I loved every bit of it. BUT. There was a manager who worked there for a long time that nobody liked. He had this horrible slick guy ponytail and the way he dressed just oozed sketchy used car salesman. Heavy Steven Seagal vibes. I alway thought he looked just like the bad guy from The Karate Kid part III. The rich guy who bankrolled the Cobra Kai Dojo. My friends and I gave him the nickname Mr. Slick Ponytail Esquire, or Lord Slick Ponytail the 3rd. He was the master of every shady sales tactic in the book. Raking in those commissions. I actually had the rare opportunity of actually seeing him play guitar, but only once. Of course it was some 80’s hair metal wannabe Van Halen crap. Nothing against Eddie, but you know what I mean. The store changed locations to the place it is today, and Slick went with it. One day I happened to be in the neighborhood, so I went to check out the new location. I had been over five years since I last stepped foot in Guitar Center, or any other guitar shop. I was kind of surprised to see Slick was still there, but whatever. I spotted a shiny new cherry red Gibson ES335 on the wall and got excited. That was my dream guitar at the time. I carefully took it down from the rack, found a place to sit, and started tuning it. Slick was talking to somebody, but spotted me with the guitar and walked over. Mid sentence, without missing a beat, he takes the guitar out of my hands, puts it back on the wall, and continues his conversation like nothing even happened. 🤯 All without saying a word to me, looking me in the eye, or the slightest pause in conversation. I was completely blown away by that. I sat there frozen for a moment, processing what the hell just happened. Now, I admit I look young for my age. Always have. I probably still looked like a teenager, but I had been playing guitar for almost ten years at that point. Even if that wasn’t the case, that was an incredibly disrespectful thing to do to a customer. Just taking the guitar out of my hands like that was bad. Then refusing to acknowledge my existence took it to a whole other level. The message was loud and clear. THIS GUITAR IS TOO GOOD FOR THE LIKES OF YOU. He basically treated me like some sloppy little kid with a Kool-Aid smile, about to get melted chocolate all over the guitar with my grubby little hands. I was too shocked to even be angry at that point. That came later. That experience was pretty long lasting. For it time it even affected my relationship with the guitar in general. It was years before I finally decided to go back in that store again. Slick was gone by then. So… yeah. That’s my Guitar Center story.

"Let's be honest, it is a 100 watt 212 amp" Hi. I love your content. However, if we're being honest, this is not a 100 watt amp. It only draws 77 watts from the wall so how could it output 100 watts? It can't. Boss is using an, at best, "misleading" way of rating the power to include the power it could maybe output for microsecond using the power stored in capacitors. Some would call it dishonest. All speaks and reputable amps are rated by RMS (how much power they can put out (or receive) for an indefinite period). According to my multimeter, the Katana Artist MKII head puts out 64 watts at 8ohms and less than 50 watts at 16ohms. So, let's be honest, this is a 64 watts amplifier and, in its current configuration in this video with a 16ohm cab, is actually a <50 watt amplifier. It's still plenty loud. In fact, the difference in SPL between 64 watts and 100 watts is only 1.9db or about 1/5 "louder". Does that matter? Nah, not unless being lied to matters to you. Oddly, in this 16ohm cabinet, which receives less than 50 watts from the head, a pair of actual 25 watt greenbacks would have worked just fine. But then, they'd have to admit that they're being "misleading" at best. Also funny that Boss rates these waza speaker when it's sold on its own at 100Watts but the cabinet that contains two at 160 watts. Uh oh - another "misleading" rating!

Good video on a function that a lot of the other reviews overlook 🤘. Mastering all the available options for EQ/tone shaping is key to getting the most out of the Katana, but once figured out, it's an incredible box. You already made it sound great just out of the box without even touching on the additional SW options available through the TONE STUDIO : - 10-band or 3-band parametric global EQ, with up to 12dB boost - 2 additional 10-band or 3-band parametric EQ, with up to 12dB boost, that you can position at different points in the signal chain to be pre-amp or post amp - additional10-band or 3- parametric EQ, with up to 12dB boost dedicated to the SOLO BOOST function (Artist only, I believe) It's fkn insane, can lead to tweaking paralysis if you let it, but once sorted, it's amazing. If you also add the SNEAKY AMPS to the mix, the tone options become mind-blowing. Apparently though, these don't work with new Gen 3 Katanas.

I sympathize as a father of two young sons. The thing is, guitar stores, antique stores and other shops with high end goods not meant for kids are the last place you want to bring them, because they'll want to touch everything and be distracted by everything. A tantrum is just waiting to happen. It sounds like your daughter was good in that respect, but then they'll get agitated after a short time, so what you think will be a quick trip may turn into a marathon for little kids.

For versatility it is far better than the tonemaster. You basically need no pedals. I keep wanting pedals but in the end they sound the same as the built in effects. The tonemaster does the fender thing better but the fender thing is limited. My opinion is if you are expecting a lot from the fender you may be disappointed but I can’t imagine you being disappointed in the Katana. The Gen 3 heads are on preorder now. You may want to wait for that. However if you got a good deal on a MKII you will still love it. It’s a lot of amp for the money.

You should be fine. You might have some issues with getting any drive even at the lowest attenuation. It can still get loud but for cleans and with pedals you have quite a few different tricks you can do to keep it reasonable. For drive you could run it into a DAW and just use your monitors. That way you could crank it but bring the volume down whisper quiet if you wanted.

I eventually got obsessed with ES 335s (and to a lesser degree Hagstrom Vikings) in my teenage years but because of Peter Hayes of *BRMC* 😅, I wanted one in cherry Red but never wanted to settle for an Epiphone...until now, I'm considering picking up a used one in honey burst

I picked up a second hand MK II artist head and I can't get a good tone of out this thing. I've tried V30s, greenbacks, and even eminence speakers. I can't good a good crisp glassy clean tone. It's impossible. I've tried the tone shape, I've tried the cabinet resonance, I've tried presence, and the EQ knobs. I can hook up ANY other head to these speakers and get a great clean tone: Orange head, H&K, etc. Never mind Vox and Fender combos. The distortion is brash and fizzy. It really bothers the ears on the high end. Yet, somehow, has no presence at all. You can't get it to sound "alive" in the room like any of the afore mentioned amps/heads can in the same room. Honestly, I hate it. I don't see the hype for this thing. It's trash in my view. Anyone want a MKII artist head? To ad insult to injury: I find it far too quiet with my 212 cabinets. Obviously, the claim that this is a 100 watt head is a marketing lie. It draws 77 watts from the wall. It cannot put on 100 watts RMS (which is how amps and speakers are measured). My oscilloscope says that this class AB poweramp only put out 64 watts at 8ohm and less than 50 watts at 16ohm. Since my 212s are 16 ohms, that explains things.

What is the difference between EQ and EQ2?

I think it’s an alternate eq that you can set. I’ve never used it so I am not sure how it works. There is also a second delay you can access instead of reverb if you so please. Not sure how to use that either.

I've found it to be 2 of the same eq, they can be set before and/or after the preamp. For example, can put an eq on the raw signal from guitar before any effects, and then a second eq after the effects.

Nothing better than a Gretsch through a fender amp.

Also worth noting: the second input on each channel is -3db so if you’re looking for quiet that can allow you to use the second “attenuator” setting from bottom without worrying as much about the volume knob on your guitar.

I bought one of these during COVID. Went into GC, took it off the wall and it felt so natural and easy to play. Tried another similar looking model by another company I will not name, I believe it was a 339 copy, and it felt like someone had picked up a piece of driftwood and nailed some strings on it. What a difference. The block does make it HEAVY by comparison to others guitars. I believe BB, as well as Alvin Lee (forgot to mention him) both played 345's, stereo models with the big knob switch on it. Have not seen one of these in years. I agree this is so good that just looking at it makes me want to pick it up and play.

There is just something about this guitar. It just plays so effortlessly. Plus the pickups seem to sound good through any amp I try them on. Luck of the draw I guess but this thing is with me for the long haul.
