1898, Los Ultimos De Filipinas - an interesting Spanish movie regarding the Battle of Baler in the Philippines. Based on true story. A well-made movie as it is, I rated it 0 stars because I didn't like the addition of Fictionalized characters of Filipina women whoring for the brave Filipino revolutionaries. In regards to the Filipina being portrayed as a whore, I don't think this was the intention. Rather the intention was that Spanish men viewed non-Spanish women as whores. In pre-colonial Philippines, they didn't really have any sexual taboos that the Westerners had, homosexual relations or men who dressed as women performing traditional female roles weren't stigmatized. And women who weren't married could sleep with anyone they choose without being called a whore or a slut just as the unmarried men did as the women were viewed as basically equals to the men having almost the same rights in the pre-colonial Philippines societies. And after 400 years of church doctrine on gender, sex, marriage etc., being forced down the throats of Filipinos, the Filipinos were well within their right to take back their sexual liberality in whatever way they saw fit.

Änthony Yap on what basis do you have that I’m Tagalog? I’m from the Ilocos Region, and all these unappreciative talk your blabbing is nonsense. The fact that Spanish influences are culture heavily is what shaped our national identity today, yes I’m thankful for the Spanish for modernizing our country in the old days but Filipinos were the slaves who are suffering in those times. In school , we are taught that the Spanish were colonizers, and with that we can’t deny the fact that Filipinos were being abused by this rulers in their own land. Being unappreciative towards the Spanish not a problem, why would you want to thank a nation that hates you and sold you off to another country when you were winning a rebellion against them? Yes Spanish is a very large part in our culture, that doesn’t mean we can deny the possibility that we could have made our own culture without them. If we weren’t colonized by the Spaniards, it would take a much longer time for our country to develop in those time but our language and culture would be pure Filipino, there is will be no Spanish influences. The problem “unappreciative of the Spanish” is stupid, the more bigger problem of our culture today is losing our own national identity because of globalization. If you really don’t understand where I’m getting at. Then just shut the fuck up and get educated dumbass. Oh and to prove I’m Ilocano, Nya? Mawatan nak? That means, can you understand me? And here’s a fact the province where I’m from has preserved a whole village of Spanish era colonial houses, a lot of bell tower and churches, museums, and some ruins. We even have a law where, if you build a building in the main part of the city, it must be designed to look like a colonial era house Anyways stay safe and healthy, this virus is getting worse.

Hi, I recomend you to reed, the speech of Emilio Aguinaldo, regreting the secesion, from Spain. As all the secesions of the American, Asian, and African provinces from Spain, the journey was from be rich and equals between all the spaniards, to be poor, and colonos of the anglosaxons. For that, there 21 hispanic nations in América against two anglosaxon. Divide et impera, that means, divide and then you will win. As Filipino American growing up around my Mexican friends & co workers from Los Angeles, I can actually understand both Spanish & Tagalog. I come to my conclusion after learning Spanish language is that Tagalog is 60% Spanish influence with loan words. Thanks to the American imperialism who've won victorious against those Filipino insurrectos & el Katipuñeros during the Philippine American War, a typical modern day Filipino can only speak Tagalog & English. If Jose Rizal & Emilio Aguinaldo were alive today, they wouldn't understand today's modern day Filipino because they'd prefer Tagalog & Spanish without English.

We like is like "gusto na tayo" is "somos gustamos". Either Tagalog or Bisaya has more than a 1,000 either broken Spanish or Spanish loan words in em. If you'll learn español, it's pretty clear. USA did not need to buy PH., because they won the war (Spanish -American War). Spain dont wanted to sell Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and Philippines to the americans. But they were the winners and forced Spain to do that because this was the american way of legitimizing the annexation of new territories to the world. For instance, USA bought Alaska from Russia in 1860 (six million dollars).

You probably live in a world where our heroes were spotless white saviors who won independence for the entire country and the Spaniards were monsters who were holding on to the country at any cost.True fact, kahit pumunta ka sa Baler ngayon at magtanong-tanong ka, hindi naman ikakaila ng mga tagadoon na ginawa nila ang lahat para mapalabas ang mga Kastila na nagtago sa simbahan. They did employ psychological warfare, and yes, that involved the use of sluts. That's just how warfare is.

The "Whoring" part is actually accurate and the women usually did this in their own will you dumbass. Don't dignify the sex too much that you lose track of what's real and what's not. Did you know that before the times of Spaniards that Filipinas are okay to fuck just about anybody?(just an example). The women by the mid of the film (after they brought oranges) were inviting them out because there was really NO MORE warThe inaccurate part of this movie (although its actually a well made movie) was the lack of patriotism among the Spanish men. This was made with the modern mindset of people ....in mind. lolpeople in those days were not like us (we are fee-thinkers)..those days people are actually okay to dying for patriotism and their country and its quite absurd how to Captain values his dog so much there and the Father is a crack head - although you will never see that in any historical documentation.

Actually, even though most women who were revolucionaries fought or served honorably and with dignity, sad thing is that to lure the spanish out the filipinos hired some hookers to do the thing you see in the film. Because all the journals of the spaniards tell this, and even one of the filipino officers wrote it. It was psychological warfare. A spanish saying tells: "two boobs are more powerful than two cars". What would you do after 2-3 years without sex if you saw an orgy?
