Michigan Deer Camp 2024, hunting public land, self filmed

Deer Camp is one of my favorite times of the year. Friends and family gather up at camp. Each year, we gather at deer camp in mid-Michigan to hunt public land. We reminisce about the "old days", have "story time", eat too much junk food, get out into the woods too late because we were behind schedule, but most importantly- we make memories. Deer Camp isn't just about hunting, it's about the com...

Are TEMU Binoculars any good? Testing cheap binoculars, Budget Binos,
Nice work. Subbed
6 to 7 hours on a charge, with battery life left seems like all you could ask for. I used rechargeable hand warmers for the first time this year and they were great to have on hand. No pun intended.
I’m from the yoop I’d love to join ya I’m 23 new to deer hunting wanting to know more got more first deer it was a decent 6 point I’m hooked
I have never hunted the UP. I know it is tough, so congrats on your first deer, especially since its a nice buck. There are a lot of U.P. deer camps.
Wow, so glad you love it.🤩Thank you for your sharing!
It's definitely a great product that kept me in the woods in below freezing temperatures.
Oh thank you for the views. I don't understand why some others youtubers don't put the most important content about binoculars: live test!
I agree, showing them on the screen is very important. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've seen a couple good reviews on the Ocoopa hand warmers. They seem to be nice. Thanks for the review.
Yes, I went out yesterday morning and it was -4. I was able to stay out for nearly 2 1/2 hours. My hands were totally fine, but my toes were freezing.
Our K-Mart went by the way of the Dodo bird 😂 Good option for keeping those fingers working 👍
Yeah, i don't know why Kmart popped into my head- lol. They work really well. I went out yesterday morning with -4 temps. My hands never got cold.
Looks awesome! Thank you for sharing my friend!
Thanks, it's a great handwarmer...might be giving one away in the future.😜
Yes sir awesome video!! That’s what it’s all about friends, family and deer camp. Congratulations to all. Very successful camp. Little late getting to this way behind on videos
Thanks, it was a great camp. No nice bucks for us (like your camp)- lol.
Nice hand warmer. But that intro was great 😂
Thanks, i try to make them a little entertaining.
As always, a very thorough review. Thanks!
Thanks so much. I am glad to know you are back in the woods and hear you back on the podcast.
What mAh were the other two rechargeable hand warmers?
Great question- i should have included that. The other 2 were both 5,000 mAh.
Awesome review, Jeremy!! I have been looking at those, but mainly for helping to keep GoPro batteries warm. During our rifle season, my fully charged GoPro died within just a minute due to the extreme cold. My backup GoPro when I pulled it out died within seconds. I like the idea of putting it in the hand muff, but Jerod and I both have heated hand muffs, and they are great. I may check out the Ocoopa UT4 to use for keeping the GoPro batteries alive or of course to keep my hands warm. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, i have had the same problem with GoPro's...HAD. I haven't had the problem with my DJI Osmo Action 4 though. I have the New View Heated muff, but i like the Ocoopa too. Hopefully the hand warmer will work on your batteries. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice hands!!! No Kmarts left around me either 😂. Thanks for sharing this handy warmer!
It was funny- I don't even know why i said Kmart- lol. This handwarmer is great. Thanks for watching.
Might make a good truck bino. I like carrying binos in all my trucks. Won't hurt so bad if they get lost or stolen
I totally agree. I love having a pair sitting around that you don't have to worry about. Thanks for following along.
Congrats on the harvest and all the memories of another deer camp in the books!!!
Thanks so much. We had an absolute blast and made a ton of great memories. Thanks for following along.
@JR Outdoors did you have any jamming issues with that upper on that PSA lower?
No, i have had zero jamming issues with this setup. It has worked great for me. I have taken 2 deer with it, and no issues at the range.
The problem with lots of Amazon binos is that their magnification is usually less than advertised. However, after buying a few pairs of cheapo binos and some mid-range Vortex Diamondbacks recently, I'm convinced that the cheapo pairs are about 90% of what a higher quality set might be. After comparing my cheapo 15x sets to my Vortex 10x, I used a silver sharpie to mark the cheapos as being 8x and 8.5x
I agree, they are never as "magnified" as they claim. I have found a new pair of budget binos that i feel are better than any other pair that i have tested. They are the WOSPORTS binos. I did a review video on them. ua-cam.com/video/Vpmc0DV0Tf8/v-deo.htmlsi=JrEKFaU9kRP3W6if
Thank you for the nice video. It was enjoyable.
Thanks you for watching. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. We always have a blast at deep camp.
How is it when carrying a crossbow?
I haven't used it during season, since i am usually carrying a bunch of camera gear with me. But i don't see why this wouldn't work great with a crossbow. Thanks for watching.
really needed this video thank you Sir
Thanks, these are the best budget binos that i have tested. I have used them all season and they are still working great.
nice review thank you MAN
Thank you for watching and commenting.
thank you for your honesty bro
It's definitely a passion driven hobby. I'm not in it for the money. because I've spent more time and money on it than i will ever make.
so helpful thank you bro
You are welcome. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. It is much appreciated.
Great job. Keep up with the good content 👌
Thanks so much, i appreciate it.
Great video, thank you. Do you add fat to the venison or no?
Sometimes, but not always. When we process our deer (we usually do it ourselves), We usually just get a 5lb log of 70%/30% beef and mix it in with the whole deer. However sometimes i end up grinding up a roast into burger and i won't mix anything with it. When making these stick, i don't think you could tell a difference though. Thanks for watching.
Great deer camp video !! Nice work!
Thanks, we have a blast and makes tons of great memories. It's no Camp Benny, but we love it.
Doesn't seem like much savings vs current pricing. But this was 5years ago... good job nonetheless.
I agree, i wouldn't build them now. BUT at the time, there weren't many options. Most mobile setups were all DIY. Most saddle hunters were starting off with modified sit-drags. I still use these every once in a while but the modern sticks are far superior. Thanks for watching.
Congrats on the harvest, man. Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving.
Looked like a great deer camp! Congrats on all the deer taken as well. 👍
...oh, and sorry for all the comments but I was finally able to binge watch all your latest episodes and get caught up! 😂
We definitely had a great time and made some awesome memories. Thanks for following along.
No worries, thanks for following along and the comments and encouragement. It is much appreciated.
Awesome northern lights pics! I'd say you had some quality hunts for sure. Hope you and your wife have/had a wonderful time!
Yeah, it was awesome to actually see them and not just with the phone in night mode. We had a great time on our trip, except that i ended up sick the entire time. But we made the best of it. Thanks.
Good bow tools. 👍 I have some of them as well. Is the Sasquatch on your shirt giving us the bird? 😳
No sir. He has just his index finger up. But now that you say that, it does kinda look that way on the video.
@@j.r.outdoors247 🤣🤣 Well good to know. lol
Dude!! Congrats!! That is awesome and I'm happy for you.
Thanks, i have been so busy that i still haven't even shot it yet.
Great shooting! 6 chances is pretty good. I upgraded to a slider sight this year and am SO glad that I did! I can now shoot 100 yards plus.
Yes, i love the slider, and love shooting 3D courses too (i see that you have been going to one regularly). What sight did you get?
@@j.r.outdoors247 I got the Trophy Ridge react trio pro which goes out to 120 yards. Then like you I'd need to use the sight housing to reach out a little further.
Man congrats on 25 years! That is an awesome milestone these days. The New View camera looks to be a nice one for the price. 👍
Thanks! the camera works pretty well. I found out later that it chews through batteries faster than my other cameras though.
Cool that you were able to share the story of Samson. 🤛
I always enjoy speaking at our camping trips... and since i am speaking "outdoors", it goes on the channel- lol
Where in Michigan are you hunting
I live in south east MI, but don't really like to post publicly the areas that i hunt.
@@j.r.outdoors247 That was a fair answer. You seen more deer that some other hunters. A nice video. Thank you
@@BigJim-wj4xr Yes, i'm happy to have found a spot on public that allows us to see deer MOST times that we go out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Michigan needs to get away from letting everyone use crossbows. Unless you have a permanent disability that would hinder your ability to draw a bow. Just like it used to be.
You are right, we should go back to the way it used to be. Only a stick and string, wood arrows, no sights, turkey feather vanes, stone broadheads. No compound bows, no carbon fiber arrows, no treestands, no trail cameras, no cell phones... you know "like it used to be". So i hope you don't use a compound bow, because that's not how it "used to be". Sorry, i disagree with you (and you have the right to have your opinion). My goal was to make as ethical shot as possible. I shoot my bow all the time (check out my other content). But i was sick for the previous couple weeks and had some back issues, so i decided i would take the crossbow out instead of my compound. For the last several hunts, i have been ground hunting with my compound.
@ it should go back to not shooting does. People like you just want to kill or kill for content and not understand just because you can get tags doesn’t mean you need to kill every doe you see. Hunting in Michigan is going right down the fucking shit hole because of people like you and trophy hunters. They know guys like you will bite at the bait set. 3 areas on state land I used to hunt got whiped out. By guys like you. Last year I was getting 30 pics a day this year I’ve seen 7 does all season and believe me I know how to find deer. 6 guys just like you last year killed 28 does. And 3 button bucks on public ground. So other people can’t shoot a doe knowing it would be tragic for the deer population. Trophy hunters have private land they want guys to shoot all the does around so the bucks flock to their food plots and live on their property because they don’t kill does. They shouldn’t allow donated deer either. If someone needs food bad enough they can go shoot a deer themselves. Well maybe not anymore it’s kind of hard to do. Hunters are supposed to be conservationists not stupid fucks. Your hunting for today not for the next generation. Other people utilize that land and want to enjoy a deer harvest as well. It’s the same demographic of people doing the same thing in the area I hunt. My uncle just sold off 60 acres of our family land because the neighbors whiped the deer heard out because the government told them it’s okay to kill all these does. It means they will see bigger bucks. Or see more bucks. The reason why we’re seeing more bucks isn’t because there is more it’s because we have no does
I have had a doe do that also(blowing repeatedly) , and a nice buck came running!🤷
Thanks, have you ever heard that before that time, or since?
Congratulations! We're happy to see our game processing knives kit!
@newviewhunting Yes, I worked really well. We gutted 3 deer this season and 2 turkeys last season. I was also sporting the New View Hunting boots all this season and they have performed really well too (video to come soon).
Great video. Congrats everyone
Thanks, we had a blast.
Making memories is the goal, coming home with meat is the cherry on top
Absolutely, it's all about the memories and the meat.
Looked like fun, plenty of memories and venison to boot. Something was wrong with the knife target...all fuzzed out, but it did look blue 😜
Thanks, there plenty of memories and venison to go around. Yeah, I was told i should edit that part out, so i compromised with blurring it- lol. Thanks for watching.
Great video man congrats to everyone
Thanks, we had a blast and made a lot of memories. Thanks for watching and commenting.
One thing I quickly realized with Temu, Shein, AliExpress and AliBaba is that the products that are worth it, usually, are products that tend to just be manual, straightforward stuff that doesnt involve a lot of moving parts, that you either make from a steel mold, or plastic injection, etc etc.. that kinda stuff, if that makes sense. A $20 tactical backpack that obviously will never rival a $120 bag in terms of longevity, but for $20 that i can spare right now, it works. Stuff that doesn't involve much electronic manufacturing built into it either. That's not to say you won't find simple electronic stuff on there, though, like flashlights, laser pointers, rechargeable bicycle lights, camping lanterns, bug zappers, bs household stuff. Also knives, swords, machetes. Will I buy a machete or sword that isnt a full tang construction, no, but i would buy, and did buy a switchblade for $6 bucks, along with a shoulder stock sling shot that has a laser and a scope with room on the rail to add a red dot or whatever.. and it works well, very well, for what i paid compared to the name brand ones that run for upwards of $250, I paid $36. I got a few machetes and anime and middle ages type weaponry, along with some newer replica military equipment for wall pieces to hang up in the man-cave/gaming room just to look at. You can definitely find some cool stuff on there for cheap if you scroll long enough, and always, always, always read the product description and reviews at the bottom of the review list to make sure you are getting what the pictures show. I have made the mistake of buying something after scrolling through the pictures, and it showed up and was made out of plastic when the picture showed it metal. Something that should definitely not be plastic.
Yes, everything is definitely buyer beware. However, its just like Amazon. Temu is just a distributor based in China instead of having warehouses here all over the U.S.. I've had a lot of great deal and also had a few flops. Most of the time, i felt like the items would be flops, but was just crossing my figures that i would be really surprised. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Okay, well, even though it clearly states it in the name.. I now know what a Butt-Out is. 😶
LOL. thanks for watching and commenting.
You still use them?
@@TheMichiganShow Yes, I just used them last week.
@ I was going to pull the trigger on a used set of 4 last night but I was 15 minutes too late, someone else already bought them 😂
@TheMichiganShow I have the Gen 1s. I filled the tube with foam, wrapped them with tape and they can still be a bit noisey if you aren't super careful. And they can be hard to stack in the dark.
Pure genius thank you
Thanks, i wish i could take credit for it. I saw someone else use one similar and tried it out. So i figured i would share it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
How did you get the loop either end of the strap? I see how you started it, but you had the very small loop at the beginning.
I made the loop the length needed for the entire sling. The small loop that you saw was just an example because i lost the original footage of me making the longer sling.
I've been buying cheap ones for when I don't mind others borrowing, or if they get lost or stolen. I keep my Nikons for good.
It's always nice to have a cheap pair laying around to share. Thanks for watching and commenting.
